All Lives can’t matter until #BLM
I've never understood the "All Lives Matter" crowd. If, in fact, they really believed all lives mattered, then they'd understand the frustrations that the black community have been expressing for years. In order for all lives to matter, black lives need to matter. This statement has been repeated by so many but it needs to be reiterated over and over until it's true. There are too many hashtags, too many victims of Existing While Black. The crazy thing is, the only reason why the term "All Lives Matter" exists, is because someone said "Black Lives Matter" first. The irony of them stealing yet another thing created by black people is not lost on me. At the end of the day, the statistics are there: black people have been 28% of those killed by police since 2013 despite being only 13% of the population. Many of them were killed for the noncrime of Existing While Black. It’s an insane number, and it needs to stop now. We can't just stay silent, we need to be active and vocal. It's no longer enough to just not be racist; it's never been enough. We need to be ACTIVELY antiracist.
