Multiple Cut Outs of 3D Inserts
I made 7 overall cut outs of 3D Inserts, and played around with the design and measurements to try and get them to fit my 3D Model. I only managed to get 1 of them to fit my 3D model at the end.
Intended 3D Model Sketch
This Sketch shows the intended design of my 3D Model + Laser Cut. It was meant to be two halves of boxes joint together at the center, however I had to rotate my 3D Model on Cura for it to be able to print without the supports, when I rotated my 3D Model the dimensions changed and I was left with a final print that didn’t align with my laser cut pieces. Therefore I was forced to cut out a small square that could slot into the 3D Model.

10 3D Designs Using Sketchup
These are 10 digital 3D models I created using SketchUp.
Material Research
The material I have chosen to use is MDF.
MDF is a type of engineered wood, this wood is created by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers.
MDF is denser than plywood and is stronger than a particle board.
Laser Cut Outs
This cutout was too tight when I combined everything together
I tried using acrylic to make my jewelry box but the laser cutting speed was too fast, this caused the acrylic to melt. Overall this material did not work at all as everything was way too loose.
This is my final jewelry box, all of the measurements fit perfectly together, I decided to come back to MDF as the material I would use for my final.
These are the failed design panels for my jewelry box, I intended these to have slots going vertically so that the jewelry box could be divided into 3 compartments, but the laser cutter cut out a massive chunk in the middle of the panel instead.

Mood Boards
For the first mood board, I wanted to showcase the material and colour I intended to use for my design, which is brown and natural materials such as wood. Whereas the second mood board showcases the design of my box that I want it to look like.
