Hey Story, where can we get your games & comics?

Thanks for asking! I'm Story (she/her), a transfem writer, artist and game designer. Here's all my stuff!

My long running (almost 15 years) webcomic Modest Medusa is available for free! Its about a little snake girl from a magical land called Yeld who arrives in our world through an enchanted toilet, and quickly finds a new family. Its an all ages comic. You'd like it! Its also available as a series of hardcover books.

My superhero comic Ghost Kiss is also available for free! Ghost Kiss is about a young queer black woman named Mya with a crappy power. Anyone she kisses permanently forgets who she is. Despite this, Mya has decided to become a superhero.

My big TTRPG is called The Magical Land of Yeld. You can get it as a book or pdf from my site, DrivethruRPG, itch.io or a whole bunch of other places. Its about children from our world who discover a secret door to a magical land, then get stuck there when the door closes. To escape they have to go on a quest to become heroes and defeat the evil ruler of Yeld before they turn 13 and become monsters. Or... they decide they LIKE being monsters and choose to stay in Yeld forever. Its a queer coded all-ages game about growing up. Its also heavily connected to both of my comics.

Mer X Maid is another game set in Yeld. This is a yuri dating game about mermaids. One player plays Momoko, a young mermaid who has come to the pirate city of Sarensang to start a make a new home, find a new job and fall in love! And the city is full of so many cute mermaids! Who will she choose? This is an easy to learn card based game designed to play in just 1-2 hours. Mer X Maid features pre-made characters and a rotating game master, so everyone gets a chance to be the spotlight and guide the story! You can get the game from my site, DrivethruRPG and itch!

Rats with Gats is yet another TTRPG also set in Yeld. This was written by my brother Nick, with art by me! Rats with Gats is a game pirate rats powered by Math Magic. Its a simple story game designed for one-shots, and uses a single deck of cards. The playtest PDF is a complete and ready to play 36 page game, available for just $3 from the Yeld Store, DrivethruRPG or itch (with a pay what you want option on itch).

Jenny's Mermaid Adventure!

I've been reposting my long running comic series Modest Medusa over on ComicFury. This week I've gotten to the short (well, it's like 24 pages) season 6 epilogue where Jenny has a solo adventure a she travels across Yeld and triers to save her friend and partner. I think it's a pretty fun story, but it also really highlights some characters from my connected TTRPG The Magical Land of Yeld. Some who play a bigger roll in the next season of Modest Medusa. Why it took a lifetime to transition...

A friend asked why I hadn't transitioned earlier in my life, and... it's a bit of a story.

I knew I was a girl pretty young. I remember thinking about it was after my dad died, when I was 8 or 9. By the time I was in high school I was certain. But this was a long time ago. before I had ever heard the word Trans. I didn't know any trans people, and there weren't any in media that I knew of. No actors. No musicians. A few characters in books and comics I had read. That's it.

When I was 17 I was diagnosed with chronic protein abnormality that makes me prone to blood clots. There are other similar conditions, but mine was (and as far as I know still is) unique. I was told that I would eventually die from this, which wasn't an exaggeration. I've had 3 embolisms in my life that came shockingly close to killing me. The doctors told me that I likely would die in my 30's, and almost certainly wouldn't make it past 35. That's hard to hear at 17. But my dad had died (from cancer) at about that age. At 17, 35 seemed a long time away. So I started care (daily drugs, weekly blood tests) and just got on with my life. In college I made my first trans friends. Again, this was before anyone was using that word. Both were trans women, neither of them were out. One was still presenting as male, but as I got to know her she told me about herself. I came out to her too, even though I didn't have any plans to actually transition. I didn't think it was even a possibility. I had never heard of that before. The other woman I didn't know as well. She was presenting as female and never said anything to the contrary. No one else did either. I wondered if I could be like her. But... I had just turned 21. I knew I had 10 or maybe 15 years left if I was lucky. I couldn't even figure out how to start. And I didn't know how to ask anyone, or even that there was anyone TOO ask. It seemed impossible. Too much for the 10 or 15 years I had left. Why even bother when I was going to be gone soon anyway? I felt like that a lot. Why even bother? I dropped out of school after transferring to university. Why bother finishing my teaching degree? Relationships didn't last. Why bother? I put aside any thoughts of having a family. I rarely stuck with a job for more than a year. I did some part time teaching. Some illustration work. I ran Pokemon leagues and worked at cemeteries. I wanted to make comics. That's all I ever wanted. But, you know, why bother? I had an embolism in 2006 that almost killed me. In the hospital the doctor's told me the same thing I heard before. I was going to eventually die from this. BUT... this time they told me that I might live through my 30's, into my 40's even. Treatment had gotten better. I came out of the hospital knowing I had SOME time. I started making games and comics. A few years later I started my comic Modest Medusa. I was actually happy for the first time in my life. I had never realized I wasn't. But I didn't even consider transitioning. At this point I had several trans friends. I was, at least online, part of several communities. Trans and transitioning were words people were starting to use. But I thought I was too old. That's what I told myself. It was too late. I was going to live longer than I thought, but I had missed my chance to be the girl I knew I was. I had another embolism in 2013, about 2 years after I started Modest Medusa. It took months to recover. I thought that was it. I was coming up to the end of my time. I had gotten to spend my last few years making comics. I was happy about that. People have asked why Modest Medusa has an ending at season 4, around strip 500, but actually goes on for 10 more years (and is still going on). The answer is I thought I was at the end of my life! I wanted to end the comic before I died. I was happy to have the chance. I didn't die. I kept going to treatment. Around 2017 I got a new doctor, and suddenly there was a new prognosis. I was still going to die from this, but... probably not till my 50's. Maybe even 60. 60 is a whole life. So many people don't get to live that long. I'm honestly crying a little typing this. It's nearly twice as long as I ever thought I would live. I realized that maybe it wasn't too late. Maybe I could transition and be the person I always knew I was. That's why it took so long. I wish it hadn't. But I still have time. I still have some time to keep making comics (and games), which is all I've ever wanted to do. And I can do it as the woman I always was.

Let the historical record show that Mr. Beast was entirely ignorable if you were just like doing literally anything else. I've been on youtube as long as it's been around and I've never been recommended a video by him. I see him in passing as a meme. I thought he was a made up joke, a caricature of bad youtuber content miners until someone I trust confirmed his existence to me in late 2025.

Literally the first I ever so much as noticed his existence in any way was when they started cramming products with his name on it into the impulse buy section of stores. Which resulted entirely in a "wow, those look like shitty and overpriced versions of regular stuff, this is dumb." And then me completely forgetting about it for years.

Like, I’m aware of him, I’ve heard the name and know he’s a streamer, but that’s really about it. I have no idea what kind of videos he actually makes and don’t think I even know what he looks like.

I thought he was like a fursuit guy. I didn't know anything, so I just assumed. I thought he was just a harmless furry who streamed games.

I had no idea. I was so fucking wrong. I was standing in a grocery store looking at deep discounted knock off lunchables as my neighbors kid explained it to me.

Modest Medusa as Jean Grey/Phoenix I saw the new Spider-Man movie last week and really liked it. I wanted to do a new Spider-Man related sticker, but I had already done 3 versions of Modest Medusa as Spider-Man! So why not Jean Grey instead? Oh, is that a spoiler? Sorry. It’s Jean, She’s in the movie. She doesn’t have a costume in the film, so I decided to put her in the classic Phoenix outfit.

i know things are hella grim in the nsfw/kink art circles especially in the last year --

but I'm hearing there's a NSFW-friendly ko-fi alternative built on atproto that's actively in the works, and being vetted by lawyers right now. as torrent-princess (OP) says, you should be able to swap out payment processors while keeping your account intact. this matters since even if stripe removes support, you'll still have a shop and all of your links intact. (ATproto is an infrastructure that bsky is built on, but is far bigger than bsky with far more opportunities.)

additionally, the Free Speech Coalition is working on a credit union specifically for adult work (including kink art) - here's the link so you can add your interest & support. Since this will be built by sex workers, there'll be far less risk of being debanked for spurious and puritanical reasons.

on a domain TLD level, there's an initiative here for a .furry domain built from the ground up by seasoned furries; it's unclear whether they'll support NSFW, but it's yet another promising turn of events for a group that's been similarly affected by censorship.

there are friends and allies out there helping to build a working parallel infrastructure. keep being vocal, keep supporting these initiatives when it's possible, and keep supporting your nsfw/kink artists. ♥

Modest Medusa: The big goodbye

I've been reposting Modest Medusa strips from the beginning over on ComicFury. I'm finally coming to the end of season 6, the story where Modest has come back to Yeld to live with her sisters. Now she's realizing she has to go home to our world, otherwise her sisters will always be in danger from the people who want to kill her (because she's the heir to the Prince). This was a sad sequence, not just because modest is realizing she's losing her family that she just met, and may never see them again, but also for me because I was realizing that this would probably be the last time we'd see the medusa sisters in the comic. I had grown to really love them, and even now years later I miss them. Well, everything comes to an end. You can read the whole series here.
