    TIME FOR A HEADCANON! As we see in the anime, Ikuto received his hair braid from his birth parents during his infancy, before he was accidentally sucked into the Digital World. When Yukidramon found him and began to raise him, she made a habit of making sure he maintained his braid even as his hair began to grow out, because she thought it looked cute. For a time her adopted son didn’t enjoy how much she fussed over his hair.       After Yukidramon’s death, however, Ikuto decided to keep the braid in his hair in her memory. It’s quite possible that if he had not been sent to the Digital World in the first place, his parents would have had him lose that braid long before the age of ten.

Fine, fine - so this was going to be a little more complicated than he’d hoped for. So what? He was on the straight-and-narrow now. One peevish brat was nothing compared to what he’d been through. 

“Ah fer cryin’ out loud? What d’ya want me t’do? Pick up trash r’ somethin’?” he growled. 

The question was genuine, attitude or not. He wanted to get this weight off his back, but it wasn’t like the kid could just stalk him all day, and he couldn’t wander around doing community service when his partners needed him.
