The sounds of groaning echoed through the arena as six teens lay sprawled across the dirt, armor scratched, weapons discarded, and dignity completely gone.
Ares and Athena stood over them like disappointed gym teachers who had absolutely no sympathy for the six young Olympians.
“Shouldn’t Preston be the one getting punished for this?” Zachary wheezed, staring up at his older siblings from where he was face-down in the sand.
Athena tilted her head thoughtfully, “Yes,” she said. “But~ all six of you went to the manticore’s cave, so.”
Zachary groaned and attempted to push himself up, his arms trembled violently before giving out, and he collapsed back into the dirt.
Ares crouched down in front of them, resting his forearms on his knees. “Also,” he added casually, “what was it you six always said when you were younger?”
No one answered.
He smirked, “If one goes down, the rest of you go down with them.”
Silence, not because he was wrong but because none of them were going to admit that he was right.
Y/n stared up at the sky, jaw clenched. She could feel the sting in her muscles, the dull throb in her ribs from where Ares had sent her flying earlier. Her powers hummed faintly under her skin, aching to correct the imbalance, to steady the chaos inside her body but she wouldn’t use them.
Not for this.
“Alright,” Athena said finally, brushing nonexistent dust from her armor. “Go shower and get changed.”
Six exhausted heads turned toward her.
“You still have to help Aphrodite and Eros.”
Collective horror appeared on the six teens' faces when they heard the names of the mother-son duo.
Ares barked out a laugh, “Good luck with that.” He stood, already pulling out his phone, “Oh, and Zachary? Your footwork? Embarrassing.”
Athena leaned slightly toward him as they walked off, looking at Ares’ phone screen. “Do not post that video.”
“No promises.”
The six remained on the ground for a long moment, and then Y/n slowly sat up, crossing her arms despite the soreness.
“Come on,” she muttered. “Let’s get this over with.”
—
Aphrodite’s palace looked exactly how you’d expect—soft pink marble, gold-trimmed archways, roses climbing every column like they’d been personally styled, and the air shimmered with perfume so sweet it almost hurt to breathe.
The six stood in front of the massive doors in fresh clothes—casual, comfortable, and still limping slightly.
“Is she even home?” Amaris asked, glancing up from her phone.
Before anyone could answer, the doors swung open as Eros stood there, leaning against the frame like he’d been waiting for their arrival.
“Well if it isn’t my favorite young gods,” he said with a smug grin.
Six synchronized glares looked at the god of love as if they wanted to murder him.
He ignored them completely. “Come in, come in.”
They stepped inside, immediately swallowed by an explosion of roses and glowing chandeliers shaped like hearts.
Amaris physically recoiled, squinting to adjust her eyes to the brightness. “Gods, it’s bright in here.”
Eros rolled his eyes at the goddess of the in-between. “You act like joy personally offends you.”
“It does.” she replied flatly, causing Preston to snicker quietly at her response.
He circled them slowly, examining each and every one of them. “So, what did you six do this time?”
They exchanged looks.
“We skipped training,” Hannah admitted. “Because someone thought it would be fun to visit the manticores.”
Preston scoffed, crossing his arms. “It wasn’t that bad.”
Five heads snapped toward him, glaring at the son of Poseidon.
“Wasn’t that bad?” Dylan repeated incredulously. “We were chased.”
“That’s besides the point.” Preston countered.
“Besides the point?!” Amaris exclaimed, turning to look at him.
Before Eros could respond, a soft, melodic voice drifted down the grand staircase.
“Well, that sounds lovely.”
They all turned to see Aphrodite descending the stairs like she was stepping out of a slow-motion montage—radiant, effortless, and devastating as two nymphs followed behind her carrying swatches of fabric and armfuls of ribbon.
“It was anything but lovely,” Y/n muttered under her breath, arms crossing instinctively.
Aphrodite laughed lightly as she reached the bottom step. “Oh, darling. Chaos builds character.”
Y/n raised a brow, “So does discipline.”
That earned a small, curious look from the goddess of love.
Aphrodite studied her for a moment longer than the others—eyes narrowing slightly, like she could see something layered beneath the surface.
“Mm,” she hummed. “You’ve been restless.”
Y/n didn’t answer, narrowing her eyes at the older goddess.
Eros clapped his hands once, “Anyway! Since the six of you had so generously volunteered your time—”
“As I was saying,” the god of love says, glaring at Zachary before continuing. “You’ll be helping us prepare for the Valentine’s Day festival.”
Six expressions fell flat at the thought of having to help prepare for a festival.
“Festival?” Hannah repeated, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes,” Aphrodite said brightly. “Decorations across Olympus, oath ceremonies for devoted couples, blessings, and renewal rites.”
Y/n stiffened at that—oaths, her domain and hers alone.
Aphrodite’s gaze flicked to her again, amused.
Eros continued, “You’ll be assigned sections. No powers unless instructed, no disappearing and no forest detours.”
Preston looked personally attacked by the last part, rolling his eyes knowing that it was mostly aimed at him.
“And,” the goddess of beauty added gently, though her tone held weight, “if I hear even a whisper of the six of you causing trouble again…”
The temperature in the room shifted, soft but sharp, causing the six to swallow in fear knowing exactly what Aphrodite was capable of.
Eros grinned, “Great! Now that we’re aligned—”
A sudden crack of thunder shook the palace causing the chandeliers to flicker as the six young Olympians froze.
That wasn’t normal thunder.
Aphrodite’s pleasant expression faded just slightly.
Outside, the sky darkened unnaturally fast as another boom echoed, closer this time causing the doors to rattle.
Y/n felt it before anyone else did—a disturbance, a shift in balance as if something at the threads of Olympus itself.
She slowly uncrossed her arms, Zeus’ voice echoing across the entire mountain, carried on wind and lighting.
“Come to the throne room. Now.”
The six exchanged uneasy looks, unsure of what was to come.
Preston swallowed, “That doesn’t sound like triple training.”
Y/n’s jaw tightened.
“No,” she murmured quietly. “It sounds worse.”
And suddenly, helping with Valentine’s Day didn’t seem like punishment anymore.
—
The throne room of Olympus felt colder than usual.
Lightning crawled lazily across the ceiling, illuminating the long marble table where the Olympians had gathered. Their thrones rose behind them in a semicircle of gold and power, each god radiating something different—anger, frustration, and calculation.
At the center stood Zeus, pacing in front of his throne.
“The six have become reckless,” he said, voice carrying like distant thunder. “Defiant and disrespectful.”
Ares leaned back in his chair, arms crossed. “They’ve always been reckless.”
Athena shot him a sharp look, “Reckless is one thing, but careless with divine law is another.”
Hera’s fingers tapped against the armrest of her throne. “They disobeyed direct instruction. Again.”
Poseidon sighed, rubbing his temple. “They’re young.”
“And so were we,” Demeter snapped lightly, “But we still understood the consequences.”
Hades stood slightly apart from the others, shadows curling faintly at his feet. “If this is about discipline, triple training suffices.”
“It’s not just discipline,” Athena said calmly. “It’s perspective.”
Apollo twirled an arrow lazily between his fingers. “Oh, I know that tone. That’s the ‘lesson disguised as punishment’ tone.”
Poseidon frowned, “And you’re sending them to which camp exactly?”
Everyone went silent for a moment at the question, trying to decide which demigod camp would be best for the six teens.
“Camp Half-Blood.” Zeus says finally, making his decision. “Camp Jupiter would be too overwhelming for them.”
Demeter looked toward Persephone, who had been quiet until now from where she stood next to Hades. “It would teach them fragility.”
Persephone’s gaze flickered thoughtfully. “Mortality has a way of reshaping arrogance.”
Hermes raised a brow, “And who exactly is supervising this little social experiment?”
Zeus’ eyes turned toward the edge of the room where an Iris Message had been displayed.
Dionysus, who had been slouched dramatically in the Big House, perked up. “Oh, absolutely not.”
“You will oversee them,” Zeus said, looking at the image.
“I already oversee children with swords,” Dionysus replied flatly. “Do you know how loud they are?”
“They will be disguised as demigods,” Hera clarified, “Their powers limited and their identities concealed.”
Aphrodite smiled faintly, “Oh, I adore this already.”
Eros grinned beside her, “Forbidden proximity and hidden identities? Delicious.”
Artemis gave him a look, though she remained silent.
Hades folded his hands, “And Chiron?”
A silence fell over the room as last year's events lingered like a bruise.
After Zeus’ master bolt had been stolen by Hermes’ son, Luke Castellan, suspicion had fallen hard and fast. Chiron had taken the blame for his actions and was banished from Camp Half-Blood while the Olympians scrambled to restore order.
“He remains banished,” Zeus said, voice final.
Athena’s jaw tightened, but she said nothing.
Demeter exhaled softly, “So who runs the camp?”
“Tantalus.” Dionysus answered, taking a sip of the Diet Coke in his hands on the Iris Message.
Several gods grimaced at the mention of the demigod.
Hermes muttered, “That’s going to go well.”
“He is currently serving as activities director,” Zeus says, continuing Dionysus’ answer. “The arrangement will remain.”
Ares smirked, “Those six won’t last a week under him.”
“That,” Zeus said calmly, “is the point.”
Hestia looked uneasy, “Are we not placing them in danger?”
Hera met her gaze, “Camp Half-Blood is fortified, and Dionysus will intervene if necessary.”
Dionysus groaned dramatically at his mother’s words. “Wonderful, babysitting troublemaking junior deities is just what I wanted.”
Aphrodite tapped her chin thoughtfully, “And what happens if they fail?”
Zeus’ eyes flickered with something sharp.
“Then they will remain there,” he said, “until they learn.”
Silence settled over the room as everyone exchanged looks.
Ares leaned forward, “And when will you tell them?”
Zeus didn’t hesitate, looking at Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter and Hestia for a moment.
“Now.”
Thunder cracked again, louder this time signaling that this was the final decision.
—
The throne room doors opened with a low, echoing groan.
The six young Olympians straightened immediately from where they’d been sitting on the marble steps outside of the room. Preston stopped tapping his sword against the stone, Hannah lowered her book, Zacharay had nudged Dylan awake with his foot, and Amaris pushed herself off the column she’d been leaning on.
Though Y/n didn’t move much, just lifted her head and looked at the large double doors.
Zeus stepped out first, behind him followed by Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Hades, and Hestia—no one else, which alone felt wrong.
Preston tried for a smile, “So, triple training wasn’t enough?”
Hera’s expression was perfectly composed, “You six have demonstrated a continued disregard for instruction.”
“We were handling it.” Preston muttered, leaning back on the stair behind him.
“You were being chased.” Demeter corrected sharply.
Zachary winced at his aunt’s words.
Poseidon stepped forward slightly, his gaze heavy but not unkind. “You were warned after the Chimera, the Harpies, and centaur incidents.”
“That was one time.” Amaris said defensively.
“It was three.” Hestia replied gently.
Silence settled.
Zeus’ presence pressed down like a storm waiting to break, “You have grown comfortable,” he said. “Comfortable in your status, in your immortality, and in assuming that there will always be someone to clean up your recklessness.”
No one argued, but Y/n felt something tighten in her chest.
“Therefore,” Zeus continued, “you will be removed from Olympus.”
Six heads snapped up, turning to look at each other before looking back at their parents.
“Removed?” Hannah repeated, looking at her mother as she nodded in confirmation.
“You will be sent to Camp Half-Blood.” Hera said smoothly.
The words didn’t register at first before Amaris looked at her father and then her aunts and uncles as if they had lost their minds.
“You’re sending us where?!” the daughter of Hades exclaimed, looking at the elder gods before looking at her cousins as Dylan placed a hand onto her shoulder to calm her down.
Preston blinked, trying to make sense of the situation. “One of the demigod camps?”
“Yes.” Hades confirmed, ignoring his daughter’s outburst.
Zachary stared, looking between his mother and father. “You’re joking.”
The King of Olympus did not joke, especially when it came to matters like this.
“You will reside there,” Demeter explained, “until you learn discipline and how to stay out of trouble.”
“With all due respect mom,” Dylan said slowly, “we are not demigods.”
“For the duration of your stay,” Hera replied, “you will be.”
Hestia stepped forward, her warmth the only softness in the conversation. “Not removing them, but restricting them. The six of you will feel what it is like to be untouchable.”
Preston let out a disbelieving laugh, “So you’re going to send us to live in cabins?”
“Yes.” Hera said simply.
“With swords, camp activities?” Zachary added, crossing his arms over his chest.
“And with teenagers and literal…children?” Hannah added, glancing from her mother and towards the others.
Zeus’ gaze sharpened, “Especially with teenagers.”
Y/n finally spoke, her voice steady. “For how long?”
The question hung in the air as the main six looked at each other silently before looking back at the six young gods in front of them.
Zeus looked at her directly, “Until you all can prove that you understand the consequences of your actions.”
That wasn’t a time frame, instead, it meant that it was indefinite.
Preston stood abruptly, “That’s insane! We belong here.”
“Do you?” Hades asked quietly, but loud enough for everyone to hear him.
The question had hit the six harder than Zeus’ thunder ever could and they didn’t know what to say.
“You will report to Camp Half-Blood under Dionysus’ supervision,” Hera continued, “Tantalus is currently acting as the activities director.”
Amaris grimaced at the name, “The eternal punishment guy?”
“The very same,” Poseidon said, nodding at his niece’s question.
Zachary dragged a hand down his face, “So…we’re being sent to a demigod camp run by a cursed king and Dionysus?”
“Correct.” Zeus answered his son's question with a stoic look on his face.
Dylan looked between the six of them, “This is because of the manticore."
“This,” Demeter replied, “is because of a repeating pattern.”
Hannah’s voice dropped, “What about Olympus?”
“It will remain,” Hera said calmly, “with or without you six’s chaos.”
Silence.
The wind shifted around them, carrying the faint scent of rain.
Y/n rose slowly to her feet, smoothing invisible wrinkles from her shirt. Her expression was calm, but her mind was racing—Camp Half-Blood, demigods, and mortality brushing too close.
This wasn’t just a punishment.
It was exposure.
Zeus lifted his hand slightly, lightning dancing faintly between his fingers. “You leave at dawn. Hermes will be escorting you to the Camp’s border.
Preston looked like he wanted to argue again but Zachary placed a hand on his shoulder to stop him from getting them all into even more trouble.
For once, no one had spoken, they were too afraid of being completely banished from Olympus by just saying the wrong thing that would upset their parents even more than they already were.
Hestia’s gaze softened as she looked at them, “Learn from this.”
Hades turned first, shadows trailing behind him as he was followed by Poseidon, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera moved in silence beside Zeus as the king of the gods cast one final glance over at the six.
Then they were gone, leaving the six standing on the palace steps, the sky stretching endlessly around them.
“Well,” Amaris muttered finally, “we’re so doomed.”
Preston exhaled slowly, glaring at the double doors. “Camp Half-Blood.”
Hannah shook her head, “This is going to be a disaster.”
“Definitely.” Dylan agreed quietly.
Zachary glazed at Y/n, noticing his twin sister’s silence. “You’ve been quiet.”
She stared out at the horizon where the mortal world shimmered faintly below.
“No,” she said softly. “This is going to change everything.”
And somewhere in Long Island, nestled in the woods hidden behind a protective barrier, a daughter of Ares had no idea that her life was about to get even more complicated than it already was.
Golden light spilled across stone columns as the sun crept into the sky, carried along its path by Helios and his ever-reliable chariot. Clouds drifted lazily beneath floating palaces, and the air smelled faintly of ambrosia and ozone.
High above the arena, six teenagers loitered like they definitely weren’t supposed to be there.
“Is he sleeping?” Hannah asked, lifting the binoculars higher as she squinted toward the horizon, where Helios’ chariot drifted just a little too unevenly.
Amaris leaned against the railing beside her, also peering through binoculars. Dylan stood close, adjusting the focus like this was prime entertainment. Below them, Preston, Zachary, and Y/n sat on the stone steps of the arena, polishing their weapons with the kind of boredom that only immortals could master.
“Yeah,” Dylan said confidently, lowering his binoculars. “He’s totally sleeping.”
Laughter rippled through the group.
Y/n glanced up from her sword, dark curls falling into her face as she shook her head. Her blade gleaming softly, perfectly balanced in her hands. “This,” she said calmly, “is what happens when you listen to anything Preston says.”
Preston gasped dramatically, a hand flying to his chest in mock betrayal. “Excuse you? What’s that supposed to mean?”
She only shrugged, eyes flicking back to blade like a conversation wasn’t worth finishing.
Zachary checked the time, squinting at his watch before looking up at the sky. “So explain to me why we came all the way out here when training doesn’t start for another five hours.”
Amaris lowered her binoculars and shrugged, “No idea. Felt right?”
“That is not a reason,” Zachary muttered.
Preston suddenly stopped polishing his sword, eyes lighting up in a way that immediately set off alarm bells.
“Oh,” he said. “I know what we can do.”
Every single one of them groaned, already knowing that whatever he was going to say would end up with them getting into trouble.
“Let’s go to the manticore’s cave,” Preston finished, grinning brightly.
Silence.
Then Hannah slowly turned toward him like she was reevaluating every life choice that led her here. “Are you insane?”
Amaris snickered under her breath, “Deja vu.”
“Remember the Chimera?” Hannah continued. “Remember how we almost died?”
“And remember how our parents said that if we pulled something like that again, it’d be the last straw?” Dylan said, placing her binoculars down with emphasis.
Preston rolled his eyes and stood up, stretching like he hadn’t just suggested something incredibly stupid. “You’re all being dramatic. What’s the worst that could happen?”
The five of them exchanged looks, and Y/n didn’t like the way her chest tightened.
—
Ten minutes later, dirt kicked up beneath frantic footsteps as the six teenagers tore through the forest, branches snapping and leaves whipping past their faces.
Behind them, the manticore roared.
“Why did we even agree to this?!” Hannah screamed, nearly tripping over a root as she ran.
“Because you guys love me!” Preston yelled back, breathless but still somehow smiling.
Amaris shot him a look mid-run. “I swear to the Styx—”
The manticore lunged, claws tearing through bark where Zachary had been half a second before.
Then suddenly, a rope snapped tight around the creature's neck.
The manticore shrieked, skidding to a halt as a massive figure stepped forward, muscles coiled and expression unimpressed.
Hercules.
“Go,” he ordered sternly. “I’ll handle this.”
None of them argued, instead they bolted.
By the time they reached Zeus and Hera’s palace, the six collapsed at the bottom of the marble stairs, gasping for breath.
“I’m never,” Hannah panted, “listening to you again.”
Preston rolled his eyes, hands on his knees. “You’ll get over it.”
Footsteps echoed behind them, slow and deliberate, causing the six to freeze.
Their parents stood at the top of the stairs—Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Hades, and Hestia, looking at the six young Olympians with their arms crossed and unimpressed looks on their faces.
“Where,” Hera asked calmly, “have you been?”
No one spoke, they all looked at each other nervously while silently arguing over who would say something first.
Zachary finally cleared his throat, “We were in the forest…exploring.”
Zeus’ eyes narrowed, “Really? Because several nymphs just informed us that the six of you were headed directly toward the manticore’s cave.”
Silence.
Hestia sighed softly, disappointment heavier than anger.
“Not only did you ignore our warnings,” Demeter said, “but you also missed training.”
Dylan opened his mouth, but before getting the chance to say anything he was stopped by his mother.
“Don’t.” Demeter warned, glaring at her son.
Poseidon stepped forward, “As part of your punishment, you’ll be doing triple training today.”
Groans followed immediately from the six teenagers.
“Oh,” Hades added casually, glancing back at them. “And you’ll be helping Aphrodite and Eros with Valentine’s Day preparations.”
That earned actual looks of horror from the six Olympians as the elder gods walked away from them and headed inside.
Once the gods dispersed, five sets of eyes slowly turned Preston.
Amaris crossed her arms, “What’s the worst that could happen?” she mocked, glaring at the son of Poseidon and Amphrite.
“And now Athena and Ares are going to destroy us.” Zachary sighed.
Dylan frowned, “We’re all missing something, Poseidon said as part of our punishment.”
Y/n’s grip tightened on her sword, “He’s right. They might be sending us somewhere.”
That thought settled heavily between them, then footsteps approached behind them again.
Ares and Athena stood before them, expressions unreadable.
“Let’s go.” Ares said simply, already turning toward the arena.
Athena lingered a moment longer, her sharp gaze sweeping over the six, calculating and knowing, before following him.
Amaris exhaled slowly. “Yeah,” she muttered. “We’re definitely in for it.”
And for the first time that day, the six of them felt uneasy about whatever was about to come next.
