I have not been able to find any sort of tutorial for the new she-ra reboot so, as I make my She Ra cosplay I would love to help you fellow She Ra cosplayers out!
Alright! Let’s get started with that outfit!!
•white turtle neck (shirt base)
•white spanx (or athletic shorts) (shorts base)
•1 yd of white fabric (I used a bed sheet lol) (for the skirt)
• gold fabric paint ( I used speedball opaque fabric paint and it worked wonders)
• 2yds of red spandex (cape)
•1yd gold (or white) spandex (belt)
•Velcro (the strongest you can find)
Pattern and paint the flower design.
So how I patterned this was looked at a photo and drew half of the design on a regular 8x10 sheet of note book paper folded in half (hot dog style).
Once you have that, slap that pattern on the middle of your shirt and LIGHTLY pencil the design in. THEN I freehanded the line going up the collar and down the rest of the shirt it’s pretty simple to just eyeball but if you don’t trust yourself use a straight edge.
Next! The fun part- painting! Be very careful and paint in the lines! Tip is to keep it thicker near the edges so it looks like a crisp line rather than paint lightly brushed on.
Now wait for your paint to dry and then set it (if you used speedball paint) with your iron and make sure you don’t burn a hole in your shirt!! Then hot glue on your gem and boom! Shirt done!
I also bedazzled mine at this point but that’s totally not necessary (I’m just extra).
This is pretty simple if you bought white spanx because literally all you need to do is paint 2 gold stripes down the sides. Done!
The skirt is pretty simple. So to pattern I used my favorite circle skirt pattern (it’s soooo easy and fun). All you do is fold your fabric twice then cut two curved lines and you’re done. Now , this picture can help explain it more than I:
(There’s also a multitude of tutorials on YouTube if you still are confused on how to cut it, just look up easy circle skirt )
Now once you have your circle skirt cut one line through it so now your skirt opens. Like so:
Now you have this, I put on my white shorts and then wrapped my skirt around. Now you’ll see in She ras design you can see just the bottom of her shorts so I took a pencil and marked where you want to hem to. Then because her skirt doesn’t exact meet up in the middle I folded the fabric on a diagonal from the top tip to the bottom so the top tip could still meet and the bottom corners were about 7inches apart.
Now you have that all sorted out pin everything you’d like to sew down and then you know sew it. I used a zig zag stich (mostly on accident) but it looks nice and also combated the slightly stretchy fabric I was working with.
Now it’s not really a belt in her design, I made it this way for my comfort and so I could take it and the skirt off.
What I did was slightly unconventional but I’ve had bad experiences with belts (Eros Yuri to be exact) so what I learned is it needs to be curved (I know duh. ). So what I did was grabbed my circle skirt that I just cut out and used it as a guide for the curve of the belt. And then made the point in the middle. (I apologize I didn’t get a picture of this stage- my phone died at this point)
But basically all you do is fold your fabric in half and then cut out 2 belt pieces and sew them together, and flip it so the seems are inside. (The emoji is pointing to what I’ve been talking about this whole time)
Okay, so I used regular craft foam for this and patterned out a cone shape. I just got some regular paper and kept cutting it until I liked the shape it was in.
Then I got the heat gun and heated and shaped the shoulder so it would stay up and pointy!
Here’s what they look like^
And then I painted them gold and hot glued them onto the shirt!
I also bedazzled the edges because I thought it looked nice. (Not pictured)
Final step! The cape! This was so easy. I used a basic cape tutorial off the internet and it’s just measure your shoulder to shoulder width and how long you want it and then cut on a diagonal.
Plus spandex= NO HEMMING REQUIRED!!!
So you just cut and plop it right on. I sewed and fabric glued mine on because I was afraid it was going to sag or something.
Here is the final product!! ^^
And of course here’s the full thing on! ^
I will be back with tutorials on how I styled the wig, head band, boots, bracers and sword!!
