Rafts on the Li River, Guangxi
Raftsman on the Li River, Guangxi. September 2014
Of course I was the tourist getting the raft ride.
Kelcey at the Tokyo metro, July 2015.
Passenger on the train to Tenryu-ji, July 2015.
Mingtown Nanjing Road Youth Hostel, Shanghai. Clean, and came with kettle, which is all you need.
Shanghai Night
Scooter sales in Zhenjiang. People who ride these follow only their own rules, and we learned to be careful around them.
I'm at home sick today, thinking about Jinshan Park, another of the three famous parks in Zhenjiang. This one has a particularly large temple complex, and, like everywhere else in China, you can rent electric boats.
Right: No sputlering at Jaoshan Park. Bottom: prayer incense at the base of the temple.
Market in Zhenjiang. I was told that grandparents who live with their children would come to markets like these to get fresh food before each meal. In the back they had live ducks and chickens. Between 11:00 and 2:30 the place went completely dark and deserted while the vendors rested, and it was a little eerie then to walk past the animal cages and meat tables.
Right: the bathroom at La Natural, a France-themed cafe in Zhenjiang. Left: what kids want, I guess.
Zhenjiang police, plus the constant cycle of demolish/rebuild.
This is Mr. Joe, the security guard at the school in Zhenjiang where my friend Cree works. I wish I spoke Mandarin specifically so that I could have a conversation with this man.
Girls in Zhenjiang are ready for all weather. This seems to be the standard-issue mannequin for small clothing shops.
Rooftops in Zhenjiang, a small city of 3 million in Jiangsu province, China. Kelcey and I spent all of September in this bewildering country.
