Doomed siblings have me on a chokehold in a way no trope can ever achieve. Something so gut wrenchingly beautiful about two kids going through unimaginable trauma and coming out damaged forever. I always eat it up. Maybe they stay together and find solace only in each other, used and kicked out by society! Maybe they end up on opposite sides of the war! Maybe they end up betraying one another! Maybe one of them dies haunting the narrative forever! Maybe one of them destroys the world for the other! So many endless tragic possibilities!

Semi-Final — Match 1 / 2 — Orin the Red vs. Ketheric Thorm

Orin the Red is the Chosen of Bhaal⁠ and one of the leaders of the enigmatic Cult of the Absolute and serves as one of the main antagonists in Baldur's Gate 3.

every time wyll's story progresses gale has to come in like "I'm so glad I'm smart enough to have chosen not to be a warlock ☝️". like okay man. one of us has a nuke in his chest and i'm pretty sure it's not mr warlock over there. but the fuck do i know.

bg3 should have just made the mother superior a different cleric of Shar than Viconia DeVir, it would’ve had the exact same effect without disregarding the entire development arc of an already existing character and boiling her down to an irredeemably evil villain for their new character’s story.

I mean... it's not even Viconia. Have you seen how old she is? Viconia is only 100 years older than in the og games. As an elf, she should look exactly the same.

But aside from this glaring mistake, you are correct, in fact, none of the og companions needed to be there, the story would be the same without them. I would go further and say it's not just about disregarding Viconia's development arc. It's worse than that, because the representation doesn't even match the base character. The Viconia you first meet is being hunter for being a drow, she has renounced Lolth because she refused to sacrifice an infant and because her brother was changed into a drider for saving her. That's Viconia at the start of the story and even that doesn't match what's in BG3. It's twisted actually, because it's as if BG 3 purposefully has Viconia commits acts that are opposite to her beliefs (ex: harming children). The rare times Viconia voices any wish for the future, it's having a place she calls home, something she loses three times (the Underdark, Beregost, Waterdeep). It also fails to show that Viconia's bursts of cruelty are mostly rooted in two things: Underdark drow culture, and the fact that Viconia has faced rejection and cruelty from surfacers due to being drow and she has not turned the other cheek. Viconia can be sharp-tongued and mean, but she also weeps when she realises that what she felt for her brother was love and she keeps thinking about him because she's grieving. If all BG3 wanted for Shadowsheart's storyline was cardboard villain, any drow would've worked.

The infuriating part is that Viconia could've been a cameo in Shadowheart's storyline, but this was the most absurd way to do it. It doesn't make any sense for her character at all.

#even as a child viconia felt off about the sacrifices#then she wouldn't kill a baby#but bg3 claims she would abduct then abuse a child for years#same thing for sarevok it doesn't even match him as a villain#they have him be an abusive father figure who brutalizes women when like...#HE is the survivor of an abusive father figure who brutalizes women#and there's proof that even at his worst he was never physically abusive of his romantic partner#it reads as intentional butchering of the characters ngl#BUT i don't have proof so i'll keep it as a personnal suspicion not an argument#anyway what was done to them is my villain origin story#oooh one cameo that would've be sad but cool#meeting a drider in the underdark and if you use mind powers on him you find out that all he recals from his life before is his name valas#and that valas had a sister#or meet a wraith in the forest whose name is deheriana and you put her to rest or banish her#small cameos like that can be nice when you don't know but have a second layer if you do#and cameos that don't twist characters into something they're not
