Destiny 2 will be out before October, so when Festival of the Lost time comes around it’s going to be pretty bittersweet
just cleared VoG for the first time!
❝ Another push, can’t die twice anyway! ❞
The comment gave Cayde a good, genuine laugh. He needed one. “Well, technically, we could die a thousand times over.” He said, reloading his gun with a few flicks of his wrists. “But the unfortunate thing for them is that, hopefully, we’ll keep coming back.”
@shirox4 continued from here.
“ Then what are you waiting for? Lets go buy that drink. “ A smirk echoed in the exos voice. Papers that sat on the desk now came into Shiros hands as his optics skimmed over the information printed and written on them. “ Wow, I don’t know how you do it. “
“ B o r e d ? Well that’s no way to spend the evening if you ask me. “ The papers in his hand were patted on the desk to even them out with one another before being sat back down. “ Look, i’m on break right now and I may or may not have pulled a few strings to get you outta the tower for a little while. What do ya say? “
There was a sort of deadness in Cayde's gaze when he looked at the papers that Shiro picked up. "Reports." He said, simply. Report after report after report. It felt like as soon as he thought he was getting done with them, someone dropped a brand new stack in front of him.
However, the deadness disappeared, replaced with a noticeable spark when the other hunter suggested they bail. His glowing eyes flicked back down to the papers, knowing passively that he was going to get even more backed up. But that didn't stop him from taking a few steps back from the table and agreeing. "Hell. Yeah." He said. "You have no idea how much I could use a real night out."
@dirtybets continued from here
Doubt and fear filled Laine’s eyes as she ducked down behind cover, a few slug rounds impacting the rubble she crouched against. Screams echoed through the streets, along with the sound of gunfire and the Cabal’s roars.
She was angry, oh yes. She gripped her auto rifle in a death grip, peering out from cover. She winced as a building further down the street collapsed, covering the area in a thick cloak of dust and debris.
But what ruled her more than anger was fear.
“Survivors,” she echoed hollowly, slumping against the rubble. “This doesn’t feel like survival. This feels like a death sentence. This feels like extinction.”
Screams echoed down the street, only to be cut off suddenly. Laine resisted the urge to cover her ears. She looked to Cayde again. “How do you do it?” she asked quietly, barely audible over the gunfire. “I want to be brave. I want to be angry.”
How are you holding together?
He could tell by the way she echoed the word that her Laine's heart wasn't behind it. But it didn't surprise him, considering -- well, this. Everything burning and crumbling down around them. The screams of innocents and the weight of knowing that people were out there, people they should have protected. This never should have happened.
How do you do it? The secret was, a lot of it was fake. Cayde had to make it through this. He had to be strong, and protect the people who still lived down here. He'd barely slept since the attacks began, the weight of everything pressing down on him like the wall itself.
If he didn't keep going, didn't put a smile on his face and a knife on his tongue, Cayde-6 was going to fucking lose it.
And yet, he of course wouldn't tell Laine any of that.
"Just think of it this way." He leaned in closer to speak, so his words wouldn't be drowned out quite as much. "Humanity looked extinction in the face and said 'no' before. This won't be any different. Even if it feels like the world is ending. Eventually, we'll be rebuilding again. It's what we do."
And while, somehow, his words sounded sure -- like he knew what he was saying -- Cayde was trying to convince himself just as much as he was trying to convince her.

I’m biased but everything comes second to Effie’s grimoire card… Saladin javelin.
that is honestly a very good piece of competition
if you haven’t already, please take a moment to read the new cayde grimoire card
how can anything that includes the words “edible zavala” not be in the running for best grimoire ever?

“Shi-ro.” Cayde said the name with a forced sense of playfulness. “You know you have to buy me at least one drink before you start touching the goods.”
But then, a bit more seriously, the hunter replied. “I’ve been... the same. Bored.” He said. “It’s been a while since we’ve talked... past the field updates, I mean.”
thelightestbiohazard:
Normally, Hazard didn’t wear her helmet in the Tower, she liked showing her emotions when she could, but right now, there was nothing but distress on her face. She visibly winced when Cayde opened the door, his Light hurt her. She looked him over quickly and huddled inside his home.
“So, I, um.” Hazard stood awkwardly by the couch, finally noticing his cloak wasn’t on, she would make a joke, but right now, it was difficult to talk. “The mission, I just got back from, updating the Hive tunnels map? Something happened, something bad.” Her hands moved to cross themselves as she squeezed her fingers into them, trying to hold back the pain and fear.
“I, I had to make a deal. With, a hive wizard.” She began, slowly moving her hands up to the clasps on her helmet, and slowly removed them with shaking hands. “I,” she couldn’t finish as where her optics should have been, were inscribed marks, glowing a harsh green hue. “I don’t have much Light anymore.”
Cayde moved backwards as she came up into his ship, giving her space. Getting closer, he could almost feel that something was off, a sort of aura -- or perhaps, lack of the bright aura that guardians usually gave off -- but he couldn't quite place his finger on it right away, before she started speaking and turned his attention to that.
He figured that something had happened as the story began, but nothing could have prepared him for what was actually said. A hive wizard? "Alright, but..." He mumbled, still a bit confused. But before he could ask for clarification, she removed her helmet. And he could see.
His posture immediately straightened, bright eyes fixating on her face. "Holy--." He breathed, leaning forward closer. "This is some warlock level shit. What the fuck."
Then, slowly, he became aware of the fact that his reaction was probably not really appropriate. Pulling back, he made a sound that echoed clearing his throat. Hazard was visibly distressed, low on light (which he realized now was what he'd sensed before) and probably needed him to be... mature.
Crossing his arms over his chest, the hunter vanguard found himself at a loss of what he should say. And in the end, he settled with the simple, but serious question, "Does it hurt?"
He couldn’t imagine losing your light could feel good.
I have a question.
Admittedly, she didn’t think she would actually go through with this. Hunting down her vanguard to his ship was less than ideal, as she nervously shuffled her way towards it, banging on the hull, and saying loud enough for him to hear inside, “Cayde, Sir, it’s uh, it’s BioHazard. The, the run that just got back from uh, my expedition?”
Her hands were under her arms, as she fidget on the spot. Not many actually came to Cayde if he was outside the hall, but, she thought this might be a little important. Or at least she kept telling herself.
Inside of Cayde's ship was an old couch, where the hunter vanguard was lounging half-asleep. The sound of the knocking, though, shocked him awake, causing him to jump up with a sense of cat-like alertness. The bright blue of his gaze darted to the source of the knocking, taking a moment to focus and process the muffled words he was hearing from the other side.
BioHazard. He recognized the hunter's name to her face, though he couldn't imagine what she could possibly need. Getting up, he made his way to the hatch that would open the door, popping it open to reveal his visitor.
His brow plate rose, looking at her curiously as he crouched in the 'door' of his ship. The clothing he wore was much lighter than he did at the vanguard hall, cloak gone -- a strange sight -- draped over the couch he'd been on.
"What can I do for you?' He asked, simply, then glanced back inside the living quarters of his ship. "You want to step inside here for a minute?"
Whatever it was, he assumed it had to be important if the smaller hunter had came to find him.
Restless Dead
@dirtybets
What a tragedy, what a catastrophe… The city left in ruins, filled to the brim with rubble, corpses- and loot! Who could pass up such an opportunity? Certainly Mor-7 couldn’t. Now, it might look bad, but certainly the dead wouldn’t want their worldly belongings to go to waste. Consider it recycling.
He was definitely doing the sadly departed a favor.
Under the blanket of night, Mor rummaged through piles of concrete and dust, dragging out the bodies of citizens and patting them down. Jewelry? He could make a profit off of that. Clothes? Not so much, seeing as they were torn, covered in dust and saturated with blood. Anything that shimmered, though, was quickly shoved in his backpack.
Better that he do it than a cabal or a fallen. At least the last hands that touched them would be a guardian’s, right?
Look for the silver lining.
Standing up, he dusted himself off and zipped up his bag. The exo spared no time at all moving away from the crime scene and onto his next adventure. As sad as it was that their makeshift home was in ruins, it also led to excitement. The environment was a labyrinth of hidden rooms and underground bunkers, camouflaged by the destruction. Within days individuals would be coming back in, looking for their things.
First come first serve, though. They should have been quicker.
The creeping shadow caught his attention.
It had been a long day. Or few days? Honestly, Cayde had lost track of the passage of time since the attack began. The fire and smoke from the city had caused a haze over the ruined buildings, giving the constant illusion of night. He had barely slept, either, not more than an hour or two at a time.
Perhaps that lack of sleep was why he didn't realize at first that the shadow was a Guardian. Instead, his mind screamed Cabal -- a Psion, specifically -- smaller and faster than the large beasts that brought them here. Hand canon loaded and ready, he crept after the shadow for a bit, silently trailing until he caught up. Trying to climb over a large pile of rubble, perching on top, he aimed the gun at the figure for a second --
-- but before he could fire, the debris under him shifted. The sounds of concrete and rocks falling gave his position away, quickly followed by a muffled, "Shit!"
