the colors are different, where i am now
Things I’ve taught myself in my recent manic state of creativity. My sister’s best friend is getting married and I was asked to design (with no graphic design experience?) a series of illustrations for her bachelorette party. Less than a week ago, I was sketching on copy paper; today I managed to finalize half of the icons digitally. Keep growing.
being able to say “it was all worth it” and mean it is one of the most underrated feelings

these days, I’m just passing time… or is it it time passing me?

I’m in the black and white of life. alone or together. in love or in war. by dream or awake. things keep collapsing and I can’t escape in the gray anymore.
I love the hissing sound my old heaters make, especially the one next to my bathtub. It’s oddly meditative. I love the “caramel” brown you picked out and painted my toes. I love these seemingly fleeting moments of bliss, in love or lust, I’ll have them all.
We once watched “Pollock,”
2,000 miles apart.
When we saw him in person,
we were this close.

If I’m being honest, the past 6 months have been looked through tear-filled eyes more times than I can count. I’ve always thought it was odd I chose to photograph myself when crying, but I’m beginning to realize they’re a reminder, or rather, messages I’ve been leaving my former self. If I can count on anything, it is that, “this too shall pass,” and I will live and learn from that belief, over and over again, throughout my life. For now, I can say with confidence that keeping that mindset has been worth it in ways I can’t explain. I can look back at these photos and tell her “it’s going to hurt, but just wait… the good things are coming.” I’ve grieved lost family members, embraced being alone, longed for distant friends, feared the impermanence of “home”, and somehow I’m smiling now. This Thanksgiving, I will finally be in my own home. God is good, this picture isn’t - but you get the point.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, wherever you are and whatever you’re feeling - I hope you are full of gratitude.
Poem, Langston Hughes
