I hope for happy days for all, but I’d just like everybody to have at least one moment where they can rest, breathe, and not worry about bills or presents or the news so you can all reset and not break down. For example, my ass will be firmly settle into a movie theater seat with a bag of popcorn and a large soda to see “Die Hard” on the big screen for Christmas.

Okay, just wanted to share something super-quick about a teeny-tiny problem … my landlord is not renewing my lease and I have to move out of the very cheap apartment I’ve been living in for the past twenty years.

Obviously, this sucks, especially since I don’t have first and last month’s rent plus a pet deposit for Professor just lying around for the amount apartments are these days. What I would need is about five times what I currently pay for rent every month ($500, which … you can see why I haven’t moved in two decades).

Anyway, to keep a roof over me and Professor and the podcast’s microphone, I’ve set up a GFM. If anybody would like to help out, I’d be incredibly grateful. ❤️

A lot of you know that I normally post episodes of the podcast to Patreon on the last day of the month. I’ve never before had any problems with this, even if I post just after midnight where I am. I know it’s pushing it, but you give me a deadline and I’ll work my ass off until the last moment.

Again, never had a problem with it … until this month.

Patreon claimed the two episodes I posted on New Year’s Eve night counted for January rather than December. I’d bite the bullet and shuffle things around if I weren’t already broke from the holidays and depending on that paycheck to put towards my rent and my car loan.

I’m fortunate enough to have a landlord that understood and said pay when I get everything sorted. The car payment is more of a problem (I wish I could just give it up and take public transport, but not in this country, damn it), but at this point I’m more concerned about, like, paying for groceries for the next week.

If anyone can help out by donating to the above accounts, I would be so incredibly grateful. I am still on track to put out new episodes of both Disaster Area and Dandy Lion on the regular starting next week, so hopefully I’ll be able to do weekly episodes and be able to catch up at the end of the month.

But right now? Well, let’s just say I’m angry I’m out of gummies because I’m practically vibrating with anxiety right now.

So to start off the New Year right, I am setting a plan for myself in regards to getting things done and putting episodes out on a regular basis. Obviously, things can be hard with two jobs and mental health issues, but my goal for this year is to work my ASS off - both literally (I need to get in shape, omg) and with this.

SO. As of right now, the schedule is going to look like this:

Episodes of the podcast will be released on the main feed every Friday.

Episodes will be posted on Patreon as soon as they are finished at the very least by Thursday night prior to release. But probably sooner, if I can help it.

Episodes of “Dandy Lion” will be released on Tuesday on its own main feed.

Episodes of “Dandy Lion” will be released on Patreon every Monday. Those posts will not be charged like the first two.

I am going to make more of an effort to keep the social media accounts for the podcast up to date. That’s here, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and possibly TikTok.

The request list is available through Google Drive. Please check the list if you made a request previously to make sure the request is there. I have missed ones before only to realize it later.

The Patreon is a great way to get episodes early and without ad support. And it helps me pay the rent! (Unless Patreon decides I posted on January 1st instead of December 31st and there goes my rent and car payment. 😖) Anyway, you should go sign up for that! It’s very helpful.

What do you when you’re a podcaster with two jobs who doesn’t have the time or energy to go back to submitting your manuscript to agents and publishers again? You turn it into a fiction podcast.

I’m currently watching “The Lost Bus,” which is about the school bus which escaped from the Camp Fire. I covered the Camp Fire in episodes 247 and 248.

You guys know “United 93” is high on my recommendation list for movies based on real disasters, and this shares the same director in Paul Greengrass. I can’t confirm every detail of this is accurate - even at the best of times, movies based on real events can’t portray everything exactly right - but it does a damn fine job in establishing a terrifying atmosphere, just like in “United 93.”

Also, I suspected as much but didn’t know until I checked the cast list, but Matthew McConaughey’s real mom and son play his mom and son in the movie, which is a nice touch.

What stage of depression is it when you’re willingly listening to episodes of your own podcast at work even though listening to your own voice gives you the ick?

Hey, all! I hope you all are doing well and enjoying the holiday weekend. Or just the weekend, if you’re in a place without a holiday this weekend. Or that you will be enjoying the weekend, once your work week is over, if like me you also work weekend shifts.

I wanted to give an update for anyone concerned about me and the podcast given I won’t be putting out an episode this month. The honest truth is that I’ve been working on several episodes, including the second part (and possibly third, there’s a lot) of the Cutter Incident episodes. As of the moment I’m writing this, I simply can’t finish any of them well enough in time for Patreon to count an episode I’d be proud of as an August release.

As such, I’m not going to push myself to try half-assing an episode for y’all, even if it means juggling rent will be an irritation. There are some excellent, interesting, and timely disaster episodes in the pipeline, and those stories deserve all the respect we can give them for the sake of the victims.

If anyone is wondering if I’m struggling with my mental health again, I won’t pretend I’m not. I’m taking the last week of September off (my birthday is on the 29th) for a staycation with possible days trips, if I have the mental and physical energy to do anything other than lie on the couch and cross-stitch to Taskmaster episodes. Professor shall be at camp peering mournfully at the parking lot for my Kia in between surprising my coworkers by snuggling up to them, and I will be at home with some ground rules - no writing, no work, avoid the internet as much as possible. The world is an awful place sometimes, and sometimes it’s healthy to break away for a bit.

So because I won’t have put out episodes for the month of August, my loyal patrons on Patreon won’t get charged. If anyone would still like throw a few bucks toward the podcast, whether you’re a patron or not, the usual links apply.

Okay, so I figured I’d check in for anyone who might be worried about how I’m doing:

I’ve spent the last couple of days just getting stoned and cross-stitching. It’s been very good for me. I can’t wait until the end of the month when I can do it for a whole week in between maybe going to Hersheypark and having myself a record buying spree for a day. We shall see.

My mom’s dogs unfortunately got sick during a camp stay so they’re refunding her money. Part of which is my money, because I gave her $130 so the girls could go on the holiday weekend. Anyway, between that and my paycheck this week, even after deducting one of my regular bills, I should have enough for rent. *fingers crossed* My landlord is a pretty laidback guy, but still. I’m low on groceries but as long as I’ve got Professor’s food, I’ll make do.

Just putting this out there, but I am about seventy-five percent certain I’m making a fiction podcast! Honestly, it’s just going to be me and it’ll probably ended up more like a serialized novel like Dickens, but fuck it. This is the mass shooting YA nobody seems to want to take on as an agent as a publisher, but since the manuscript is just there collecting dust, might as well polish it up and turn it into something. 😊

So, yes. Still hard at work, but still giving myself a small mental health break before the big one at the end of the month. I just need to make rent and scrape together grocery money for the next week.

You know, I do this weird thing where when *I* don’t want to hear about politics from a podcast, I don’t listen to it and I don’t go to its Facebook page and I go do something else.

Look, you cannot avoid talking about political issues on a disaster podcast. You can’t. Regulations get made and ignored and rescinded, governments do thorough investigations or fumble the ball, and that request list has stuff like January 6th and riots in Calcutta on it. But if you don’t want to hear my own thoughts, that’s fine! The sources are all there and you can go read or watch them yourself.

I don’t mind. Really! There’s a reason I save my own thoughts until the end of the episode. You can listen to the rest of the episode and stop when I get to the end of the story. I know a lot of people don’t like a lot of chatting at the start of podcasts - I’m not fond of it either - so I wait until the end so you can turn it off if you want.

As for whatever might end up in the meat of the episode, I’m a person, not a Wikipedia page, sooooo.

Actually, as a disaster podcaster from eastern Pennsylvania, if any cheese-related disaster were to occur in Philly, it would probably be a massive Cheez Whiz tsunami following a tragic delivery mishap at Geno’s Steaks.

Other possible Philly disasters would include:
