Personal GSGW Fic Rec List
This is another classic example of me starting to read a series only because I wanted to know why my favourite fanfic authors like it so much. To be honest, I thought I would drop the novel partway, because—like Kim Soleum—I am also a coward. But apparently I can stomach horror as long as I'm only reading it, not seeing or experiencing it. Anyway, this is Part One.
1. Quit Your Job, Join Our Government Agency
Kim Soleum is a model Daydream Inc. employee. He also has all the makings of a model Supernatural Disaster Management Bureau agent. Many nosy civil servants start to notice the mysteriously helpful Mr. Roe Deer, and heavily encourage him onto a new, more fulfilling career path. Some agents in particular are more persistent than others about poaching Soleum at all costs.
For his part, Kim Soleum is getting tired of saying no to meddling agents asking him to quit his job. Just what exactly is being said about him at that agency!?
2. Even a Great Host Can’t Escape Contamination
Braun would like to buy an artwork, a human heart, from the Mansion of the Blind.
Today, as always, the being known as 130666 would hear the binding signaling the end of work hours and return to its room.
Today, as always, the company’s tasteless, droning instructional video would begin to play.
And today, as always, Kim Soleum would fail to hear his good friend’s voice.
The Eight Lung Auction is a supernatural event in which strange and rare artifacts can be bought and sold.
Braun makes a surprise appearance.
Soleum goes to watch a horror movie with a man he met online, who may or may not have an existing connection to him.
When Kim Soleum finds himself in desperate need of a guide, Braun offers his services.
Absolutely nothing goes wrong.
7. My Good TV-Head Friend
What could go wrong when you fall asleep? For Soleum, it’s the beginning of a spiraling series of dreamlike encounters that blur the line between fear and comfort.
Until one night, he finds a friend. A little strange. Sometimes eerie. But… still a friend.
8. lost in the theme park
Kim Soleum gets dropped into a ghost story way earlier than he should've. Much, much too early.
“You’ve been making me go insane on purpose,” stated Baek Saheon. “You made me think you were insane.”
Kim Soleum had the gall to widen his eyes in surprise.
He jabbed his finger against Kim Soleum’s chest.
“I know the truth now.” Baek Saheon said in vehemence. “You’ve been acting strong, but you’re not.”
The recording equipment, the setting, the awful scene behind me… I knew this creepypasta.
Dark Exploration Records / Ghost Story
11. chocolate so good it bring all the boys to the (studio)
The D-Squad is late retrieving Kim Soleum.
Several episodes of Braun’s Late Night Talk Show have aired, paving the stage for Kim Soleum's new career as Braun's co-host. Braun, ever the thoughtful, caring, nurturing friend that he is, single-handedly ensures he is well-fed and well-protected from slippery fools trying to ruin their up-and-coming show that's blowing past records. Easy-peasy!
How much of Braun is a darkness, and how much is a man? Is there anything human inside of him at all, or is he a fancy suit with wires and cables where there should be veins and arteries?
Soleum has glanced too often at his wrists, to see if he could catch a sliver of skin between his perfect sleeves and gloves, but Braun is careful. He never lets himself slip, he never drops his flawless aura of mystery. His every movement is calculated to reveal just enough of himself to keep people guessing.
A showman so into his role that Soleum thinks nothing of him exists inside the guise.
13. it’s not blood (it’s a metaphor for love)
The Security Team make one last attempt to get Soleum to remember and return to his past self.
Alone, with his team gone, Agent Choi only has a pink plushie to give him company.
This time, if something goes wrong, just call out to me, okay? I’m always there with you.
As for who you are, you’re Kim Soleum. No matter what you saw in that vision, you’re Kim Soleum.
You’re human. And you’re going to make it home.
With Kim Soleum imprisoned, Agent Choi gets a strange visitor who follows him around through mirrors.
After the glass prison arc, Kim Soleum starts acting a little strange. And then he stops acting strange, which is somehow even worse.
Jaekwan is saved from imminent death by a strange voice coming out of a TV. The strange voice seems to know a lot about Kim Soleum.
19. as we fade in the dark
After Kim Soleum resigns, Agent Choi corners him with some questions. They lead Soleum down a spiral.
Agent Choi finds himself in Kim Soleum's world. He hates it, but he'll stay a little while, if it means he doesn't have to leave Kim Soleum again.
I definitely have ships, but I decided not to include anything too explicit in this list—except the gore that is unavoidable for a horror series, of course. By the way, I saw the preview of the webtoon, and it looks great!
