I appreciate most of You’s wrap up- Joe Goldberg in a cell without his dick. But Brontë shouldn’t have gotten so much material in end. It was better when it was the others. Her leaning Kate to burn- yea, no. Lame

All caught up, and man, I loathe Ava. Loathe, loathe, Ava. I wasn’t in love with her before s4, but now?
Deborah is a problem, but I really hope she wins.
Trying to get through Ginny and Georgia for the second time, and Ginny is just so god awful I can’t handle it
Kids- you aren’t owed your parents life/story from before you were born. Blood relative does not make family, and while you are a minor, no, you do not have a right to them at the cost of your guardians
Yes things Georgia did affected her, she’s got deep wounds and serious errors, but that doesn’t mean you are owed everything. Half the time Ginny’s mad at things that aren’t much of anything. She constantly proves how immature she is. I know that’s teen 101, but I understood these basics at way younger. Augh, just auuuugggghh.
Teen shows/teens in shows are a difficult balance and so much else in the show is great, but Ginny is oof. I hope it gets better.
Auuuggghh
I am SO freaking sick of romcoms, books, etc. romanticizing cheating (and/or starting relationships on lies).
What. The. Fck.
Cheating culture makes so much toxicity go round.
Can we all collectively stop watching movies that gloss cheating and emotional abuse. Way too many “romances” in film just skip showing how it makes the characters involved absolute AHs.
Episode 3 as a whole is a punch to the gut, but I believe one of the most important parts of it to me was the way they perfectly portrayed how violent men and boys will take advantage of “not perfect” victims to try and rid themselves of any responsibility for their violence.
Even at 13, Jamie is aware of that, subconsciously or not. He uses words like “bitch” and “slut” to refer to a 13 year old girl—a child he killed. He brings up her leaked photos again and again, talks about her comments and her treatment of him as if any of that should exempt him from his crime.
He already knows he has an advantage, for being a boy and having hurt a girl who’s not perfect and “pure”. The show drives this point home when that store’s employee tells Jamie’s dad he suports his son and talks badly about Katie. He says there’s more people who agree with him.
Because there are. The whole time, Jamie brings up “Katie was flat”, “she took nude pictures”, “she rejected me”, “she bullied me”. He still tries to paint her as the villain when he was the one who admitted he only pursued her because she was fragile and he wanted to take advantage of that.
He even claps himself in the back because he didn’t sexually assault her after he murdered her, as if that makes him a good person. (When he did in fact commit a sexual crime by looking at her naked pictures without her consent).
I think that’s the most vital part of the show. The way Jamie can’t comprehend what he did was wrong because he doesn’t view Katie as a person, not even in death. That’s his understanding.
I am studying to be a forensic psychologist and that episode was so well done.
When she asks him if his dad has women friends and he's offended that she thinks his dad is cheating on his mum. Female friendship is not considered possible unless attraction is involved. Love from female friendship is not something he's seen modelled by his dad. His dad's mates are all men so his mates at school are all boys. Women are not seen as full human beings worth being mates with.
This was such a GREAT tv series , third episode was excellent, can't admire that psychologist enough.
A must-watch
What this makes me think of, is how so many people-including women- always think of the “men and women can’t be friends” discourse only in thinking of cheating, if it’s disrespectful to your partner to have friends of opposite sex, in “friendzone” conversations, etc. and we really are missing the boat in how continuing to think this way contributes to the on-going dehumanizing of women.
It is not equal, it doesn’t dehumanize men in the same way, due to the overwhelming culture of degrading women. Even if you try and say “well both aren’t having friends of the opposite sex equally” the impact isn’t even close to the same. We need to model and achieve friendships without gender or sex being a component.
If you are perpetuating opposite sexes can’t be friends, you’re perpetuating woman being seen as objects.
Adolescence on Netflix is so hard to watch from a subject matter perspective, but holy shit is the camera work and directing amazing!
It really needs an award or three.
Went back and finished The Dragon Prince. Really had some great representation but I have to admit sometimes it felt check box style towards the end. What did we miss we need to cram in? But still, good heart. Loved the complexity of a lot of the characters- many of the good characters f’d up at times, most of the bad characters also had good aspects. Liked how tackling hard ideas interwoven with comedy without it feeling cheap. Several planted ideas in the first seasons came around without being too over handed- a lot of shows have lost that. A solid plot arc in general, good world building, I liked the art style But still, some strong negatives in the details.
1. In last season:
So….a single dragon reports seeing a crime to the celestials, THEY pass judgement, but Aavaros spends centuries getting revenge on ALL dragons, plus elves and humans, who had nothing to do with what happened. It was just one single dragon and he merely reported it (again, something he truly believed was crime); plus, unless they were bffs, can’t be called a personal betrayal the way framed.
Now I can understand disagreeing with it being a crime and arguing on it as being racist. But come on. The “oh yea him causing pain on everything his kid liked, in her name because she was killed by ENTIRELY different beings is justified” fandom memes, Even in jest. No. Just no.
Let’s bring his kid back so he can find out she now hates him. Plus dude, you knew she saw the world differently and didn’t think to maybe keep an eye on her more closely? Just really feel that both could have been called more. I know making villians likable is a thing, and a dimension I usually like, just…bleh.
2. I am very over of “kid” shows glamorizing first loves. Show me the “they were firsts but grew apart but maturity was them figuring out that is ok too”. It’s just too over done, and so often always the trope of warrior and softy- regardless of the genders. Boring. This is admirably outside bias impacting the show, but it’s just sooooo repeated in YA. At least they had better development than some, but still. I would have loved it if they’d moved on but found a way to still trust each other as friends. Be more meaningful than when tied up in heart eyes imo.
3. (Guilty in first season)
Why the hell do shows that are supposed to be about showing how feelings, having them, talking about them, etc. is good seem to always piss all over boundaries in the process. Forcing ppl to talk before they are ready. It’d always a mere slap on the wrist at most when blow past people’s walls. It’s troubling.
4. I really don’t think Terry should have been seen as pure of heart when he directly helped so much nastiness. He knew Claudia was murdering innocent creatures, benefited from it frequently, etc. That should have been a taint, innocence lost- very misleading imo. Maybe if they made it “no one who’s killed” or something, but in general “pure of heart”? No. He didn’t deserve that title.
5. Boy king…tad much at times. Well, both boys, but Callum got better with time, Ezran got worse. Telling people to choose love, etc. is GREAT, but he was sooo naive about it and no f’ng way should he have been allowed to run around as a king w/out a heir that way. Another over done thing I hate about kid shows, letting children have way too much power and righteousness over adults even when so incredibly stupid things. Always over done then never addressed.
Halo TV Series
So the most I know about the game is some brief responses about differences people didn’t care for (and I agree sounds like they made Halsey worse in the show and lost some of the nuance). I also think the Miranda stuff was a touch confusing if you didn’t know lore, the first few episodes I thought the admiral was the mother she had beef with, misheard the one line. Also agreed the romance was dumb.
But despite missteps as I wasn’t a die hard it didn’t throw me. I’m enjoying the show and Halsey is still my fav. So sure what could have been but… oh well.
Probably helps the actress is completely my visual type on top of I love cold scientists 😄. If they get a season 3 Miranda better as f figure things out quick.
Loudermilk was shapping up to be an amazing show (I know, behind the times). But then ai got to the Cutter stuff
I had to look up spoilers to see if I could keep watching, but nope. Nada. Cutter was awful, dead show.
SPOILERS Fool Me Once
Hard to enjoy a show where everyone is awful
Corrupt cop-check. Yea he wasn’t on the take but he was ultimately corrupt in method and super unsafe to everyone. He needed to be fired and done permanently
Corrupt wife- she’s a murderer and okay with collateral damage, mad at murders who are ok with collateral damage. She needed to be vilified more tbh
Journalist- he got away with too much. He needed to be jailed not waved away
The fam. Yea no sympathy really but honestly finding out how bad they were at end was like…oh well. It didn’t feel as satisfying as little build showing the kids knowing or not. Basically relied on audience hating them on principle of corporate hate.
Just…meh. Too much hypocrisy to care
Leave the World Behind was…meh.
I usually like unique camera work but it has to be immersive or timed well. There were some really weird shots up front that I think were supposed to be jarring in a set the tone way but were too blunt and immediate that worked against the film rather than with. We needed slower build into those shots over time, not immediate “trick shots”
Similarly the racism was so on top, was comical not mood setting
Hilda is such a brat sometimes
I realize that’s realistic but I kinda wish she’d be called on it more often.
Rebel Moon seems like a bunch of sci fi tropes we’ve seen a million times slapped together with no reason to really care
What did Lena do?
I know some of its bad hair styling but her poor lips, oof.
Started to watch Changeling.
First 5 minutes is all about romanticizing stalking.
Yea not cute.
I appreciated Maeve and Otis ending where they did. It worked
I liked the idea behind Jackson’s s/l
Aimee was perfection
Adam was very good even when it hurt
I appreciated another Ace, though I hated O overall. So much. A high schooler on radio? idiots
Ruby deserved more
Otis was augh so often but that’s his norm tbh
Jean’s s/l with Joy just never should have happened. Love Gillian, just bad choice last season imo BUT they did as well as could with it
Viv’s s/l could have been good but way too much stuff going on
The gossip jar was so gross
The disability s/l was a great idea but poorly executed-too heavy handed
Just overall yea, this season would have been just meh. Largely due to too many new characters as others said, only real highlights was the older ones. Especially shown in the funeral episode. Felt like they rushed to tick the boxes extra hard
But what killed it dead? Eric’s S/L biggest fng pile of crap. I will never knowingly watch something from these writers again
I’ll be honest, if I could go back in time and cancel Riverdale after season 1, I would.
