Perfume to Suspend Activities at the End of 2025 – Surprise Announcement on 20th Anniversary of Major Debut, Express Desire to “Power Up and Come Back”
Techno-pop unit Perfume, consisting of Kashiyuka (36), A~chan (36), and Nocchi (37), announced through their official fan club site on the 20th—the 20th anniversary of their major debut—that they will suspend activities as of December 31, 2025.
“To capture this very moment, when we feel we can proudly say we are ‘shining,’ we will put Perfume into cold sleep from 2026.”
They used the phrase “cold sleep,” which had also appeared in the production of their latest tour, to describe their hiatus.
“If we are to continue walking together for a long time, we felt it was necessary to set a milestone so that Perfume can return as an even cooler version of itself and take on new challenges.”
Marking the 25th anniversary since their formation in 1999, the members discussed together and decided to suspend group activities without a set end date. The intention is for each of them to grow further and face their own lives individually.
However, they also wrote:
“In order to become a ‘new Perfume,’ we each want to power up and come back. Until the day we can meet everyone again, we would be happy if you could watch over us warmly.”
This clearly conveyed their strong will to restart activities in the future.

Perfume, formed in Hiroshima, made their major debut on this day 20 years ago with the single Linear Motor Girl. Produced by Yasutaka Nakata, they established a unique position in the music world with their innovative sound built on electronic beats and synthesizers.
They broke through with the 2007 single Polyrhythm, appearing in NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen for the first time the following year. In November 2010, they held their first solo concert at Tokyo Dome.
Since then, they have released numerous hit songs such as Chocolate Disco, Laser Beam, Dream Fighter, and TOKYO GIRL. In 2013, they became the first Japanese singers to perform at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the world’s largest advertising festival. In 2019, they appeared at Coachella in the U.S., one of the world’s largest music festivals, earning wide support from fans overseas as well.
Last year, Perfume released Nebula Romance Part 1 to commemorate their 25th anniversary as a group and 20th anniversary since their major debut, and launched a nationwide tour at the end of the year. On the 22nd and 23rd of this month, they are scheduled to perform at Tokyo Dome for the first time in five years.
