Honoring Classic Japanese Facades with @twinleaves

For Hitoshi Kobayashi (@twinleaves) from Tokyo, Japan, the sceneries that excite his photographic endeavors are not the urban landscape or the modern architecture found inside the city center, but rather the decades-old stores and houses which he discovers in suburban neighborhoods. “I’ve just been capturing whatever that catches my attention in the streets, but come to think of it, I think I’m naturally drawn to things that tell stories about people’s lives,” he says.

“Timeworn buildings, overused dustpans and even small inventions like attaching a broken door with a string — these are the kinds of things that I find fascinating,” explains Hitoshi. “The areas I like to go to are restaurant alleys in provincial cities. Old onsen [hot springs] towns are filled with retro, too.”

Over time, his photography has evolved from snapping nostalgic moments to capturing straight facades of aged buildings. “The appearance of the facade changes even with the slightest trim,” he reveals. “It takes forever for me to walk through an old town — because when I’m walking, my eyes and head are so busy trying to trim the reality in front of me.”

Naik Mesin Waktu Bersama The 1975

Mendengarkan album The 1975 secara utuh ibarat masuk lorong waktu ke tahun 80an. Era di mana sound modern mulai dieksplorasi. Pada rentang waktu ini musik pop disko menjadi barometer. Selain itu musik rock juga mulai dikembangkan dalam aneka sub-genre pada masa ini.

Penggunaan synthesizer yang  jamak ditemui pada karya musisi era 80an dengan mudah dapat ditemui di album debut The 1975 yang bertajuk sama dengan band yang bermarkas di Manchester tersebut. Track Chocolate, M.O.N.E.Y, Settle Down, Girls kental dengan sentuhan pop disko 80an. Tak ketinggalan lagu balada Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You yang diberi sentuhan solo piano.

Alih-alih mengusung genre populer di era 70an jika diasosiasikan dari nama band, Matthew Healy (vokal), Adam Hann (gitar), Ross McDonald (bass), dan George Daniel (drum)lebih asyik bermain dengan instrumen yang populer pada dekade sesudahnya. Hal ini juga terlihat dari pemilihan tema lagu yang terdapat pada album ini. Bagi yang penasaran seperti apa British Invasion terbaru ini, albumnya sudah dapat dibeli melalui iTunes.

Imagine Dragons – Bangkitnya Sang Naga

Berbekal lirik yang mudah dicerna dan beberapa hits yang sudah sering wara-wiri sebagai lagu tema di beberapa acara tv ternama, Imagine Dragons hadir dengan album perdana Night Visions.

Debut band asal Las Vegas ini bisa jadi memberikan sesuatu yang beda dari band pendatang baru lainnya dalam setahun terakhir. Dibuka dengan Radioactive, Dan Reynolds cs menghadirkan aransemen ‘megah’. Ada pula hits It’s Time yang ditingkahi sound chiming-guitar yang apik. Lagu yang tak kalah keren, On Top Of The World yang menjadi salah satu lagu tema yang terdapat pada game FIFA 13 juga dapat dinikmati di album ini.

Buat pencinta musik rock alternatif, album ini bisa jadi momen kebangkitan band rock di tengah dominasi musik pop yang hadir belakangan ini.
