Right wing governments like to pretend that the private sector does such a good job saving us on money, time, and efficiency, that we should rely on it.
A prime example: the most common critique of public healthcare is waiting times for treatment, taxpayer cost, and therefore adding more services to it would cost us more and make it a burden on taxpayer. This is something that comes from deliberately under-resourcing it to offset tax cuts to the wealthy, or prop up private healthcare insurance that suffers because an effective and robust public system makes it difficult to make profit off a shrinking market.
Australians now, because of John Howard, pay BILLIONS IN PUBLIC FUNDS EVERY YEAR to private healthcare companies - despite the fact that even if we ended the subsidies it would save us money on what we’d need to put back into the public system to offset all the people going over from private to public. The idea of scrapping the private health subsidy has been championed by The Greens as a way to save money and put DENTAL INTO MEDICARE and Labor wanted to cap it then review the subsidy after a couple of years.
The so called “free market” Liberal party has a decades long history on the other hand of interfering in the market to force us into propping up private industries much to our own detriment - like private health insurance, or the coal industry.
Literally, why would anyone bother with a right wing party? They ideologically approach the market, economics, and public services in a way that just fucks people over and costs us more money. Even the myth of spending less taxes by outsourcing to an efficient private sector for vital services has ended up costing us more in taxes!
