This Day in Disney History

September 11, 2001:  Following the terror attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland in California close without incident.

Cast members were instructed to hold hands, forming a “human wall” (without touching guests) to guide people to the park’s exits.  Evacuations were handled calmly.  Guests were kept as comfortable as possible at resorts, where food and drinks were made available.

In California, due to the time difference, parks were not yet open for the day.

Many people thought that the Disney Parks could have been a target, just due to their size and amount of people.  Luckily, this was not the case, and parks opened the following morning.
