Oh for fucks sake, does this website never learn?
If you’re going to do a side-by-side craniofacial comparison like this, then the two characters have to 1) be making very similar facial expressions, 2) be facing a very similar direction at a very similar angle, and 3) you have to be fair and objective with your comparison lines. Christ, I knew this comparison was crap the moment I saw it because the op completely ignored the angles of Rapunzel’s eyes and just drew fucking perfect circles. what the hell??????
I don’t even have the right tools to do this, so this is going to look like crap, but it’s at least a fairer comparison than what op did.
1) There really isn’t too much difference in the contour of the face; Moana’s face only appears a bit wider because her eyes are smaller and her head is angled down while Rapunzel’s is angled up. Overall, typical 3D Disney/Pixar Female Character™ face shape. How Very Shocking.
2) Moana’s eyebrows are much thicker and are more angular in shape. Rapunzel’s are more rounded and narrow. So definitely not the same.
3) Moana’s nose is clearly wider, so again, not identical. It’s still the same generic round nose typical of the 3D Disney/Pixar Female Character™ face, but they are at least *not* identical.
4) Moana’s lips are fuller, Rapunzel’s are thinner. Not the same, although it’s worth noting that if I’d used a picture of Rapunzel with a more subtle smirk, there would be even less of a difference.
5) Obviously Rapunzel’s eyes are NOT perfect circles like in op’s crap example. However, it’s clear that Moana’s eyes are smaller, and her lower eyelid is noticeably less curved.
Summary: No, this is not an issue of Same Face Syndrome. Anyone saying that is full of shit. Moana and Rapunzel clearly have different faces. However, it is fair to say that Moana still falls into the typical 3D Disney/Pixar Female Character™ facial structure. Their “style”, some call it.
