     BOREDOM is what causes despair to surface this time, quite literally stopping william in his tracks. doesn’t fall over, nothing of that dramatic sort, but stops entirely as he’s pulled under and a far more sinister persona grasps the reigns. doesn’t bother using any effort to keep irises blue, letting them settle into that cherry glaze as fingers push blonde strands out of his face. there’s no point in hiding what leonardo already knows. 

     strides forward to catch up with the other and lets a small smirk tug at the corners of lips, placing the glasses this body no longer needs in his pocket. catches him glancing over and laughs softly.

   A wistful sigh escapes the detective’s lips at the suggestion, lacking the disappointment it should regarding the suggestion of murder.  ( it’s not something he hasn’t talked about before, thought of before, CONSIDERED before. )   ❛ jeeeez, despair-kun, i’m a detective you know! i can’t go around doing that, no matter how much i wish i could about this one. ❜

          he laughs, something a bit too light and airy for the topic at hand, all playful in nature as he comes to rest chin on top of his hands. ❝ ne, ranpo-kun, i never said you ought to do something terrible. i only suggested you do something. don’t twist my words around ! ❞ of course there’s a slight nagging consciousness in the back of his mind, something that tells him he shouldn’t speak so lightly of something so terrible, but he wills that away easy enough. after all, he’s in control for now.

           ❝ i suppose it was inevitable you drew the line somewhere, yes? ❞

      breath leaves lungs in a deep sigh, fingertips pushing pale strands out of face and back. really only knew it was a matter of time before he’d bring something of this caliber up, far more serious than anything he’d prefer to discuss. the second collapse, the thing he’s planned for so long now, wheels already turning and setting this world’s demise in motion. 

      and there’s a part of him that still wants it. still wants to see buildings crumble and ashes smolder in his wake, all that is and once was falling apart in his very hands. 

      but then there’s him. leonardo. in all reality, despair could crush him just as easily as anyone else, stand atop his throat and watch the world burn as the light leaves his eyes at his feet but oh, they both know he won’t do that. wouldn’t dream of it for leo is a force all on his own that has nothing to do with physical power but of the hold he’s got, tight and bruising around despair’s heart. 

       garnet hues lift to meet impossible burning blues hidden behind eyelids and he’s sighing again, this time soft and easy as if there’s been a weight lifted off of his chest ( and maybe there has or maybe he’s only being weighed down even more ). takes a few steps forward, one at a time, slow and easy like he’ll topple over any moment, and snakes his arms around leo’s waist, forehead resting against the slope where shoulder meets neck. 

      only raises his head a moment later to press lips against the apple of his cheek. 

              ❝ so be it. keeping you around seems a little more fun right now anyhow. ❞

             ❝ not necessarily. truthful, yes. if that comes out as hurtful, well then it isn’t my fault, ❞ he laughs, tilting his head to one side as a too playful grin rests on devilish lips. ❝ all i’m saying is that if you hate him so much, you ought to do something about it! ❞
