ariyah isn't a master of anything and likes it that way. the wooden figurines they make have an issue with them and she does it on purpose. a seal might have a head too big and a small body, or a whale with an exaggerated tail and small eyes. she has names for all of them and will explain why they remind them of certain people. be careful as you might be the next fish with googly eyes and an ugly tail.

they look for people that seem like they could get swindled easily. on the mainland, in the islands, it doesn't much matter. if ariyah sees something that they want then they'll find a way to take either. they'll promise the world for it and may hold up their end of the deal or not, but there's a thrill that they get from luring people close and giving them nothing.

their ship is called the pearl. they know it's simple and they feel like it reflects how they are as a person. they like when things are simple and to the point, and they don't like when people talk in riddles or engage her in conversation and don't just say what they want or need from them.

they haven't ever cared much for the politics of it all. ariyah has cared only for their family and what fun could come from being upon the seas rather than anything outside of it. a child that would run after their parents to be underfoot, and when asked to find something else to do, would do the same thing with their siblings. as she grew it extended to vassals and their ships, coming into her own at the age of six and ten. ariyah took to raiding as a fish takes to swimming and learned to enjoy all that came with it. she likes to take pretty things, being something like a robinhood in how quickly they will give them away to whoever they think is less fortunate. when it became heard and known that the greyjoy heir would be chosen based on merit, they cared little. what their cousins did held little interest to them until ariyah realized what that would mean for the islands and only then did they begin to watch and listen. the greyjoys first, and then their own home.

ariyah never had the desire to be the heir of anything, not seeing herself as someone that needed the responsibility of leading anything but their own crew. when she heard that their mother would pick an heir based on aptitude, they didn't consciously do things to take herself out of the running but there were years where if anyone suggested it it could be laughable. stories about wild nights in taverns, flings left across the islands and anyone else that fell prey to doe eyes on the mainland, ships sunk because they wanted something were prevalent where ariyah was concerned and they thought it was good enough for them to not be trusted. hearing about the kingsmoot, she couldn't have cared less. hearing about the dragons also had little affect, but hearing the extent what wylla greyjoy had done on the mainland did. who she killed meant nothing, but the manner of how it had been done ariyah found it to be weak where the ironborn are concerned.

if you're to kill someone, isn't it best to look them in the eye for them to know it was you? the travel to dorne only interests them to see what mess that their cousins have gotten into and if their house has to do something about it.

as  the  night  carried  on  ,  cleos  chose  to  watch  .  sip  ,  watch  ,  refill  his  goblet  and  repeat  .  the  martell  princess's  words  had  a  subtle  bite  to  it  that  he  had  heard  ,  even  if  others  hadn't  ,  and  this  kind  of  generosity  was  something  that  he  knew  would  come  with  its  own  price  .  his  second  goblet  now  empty  before  he  expected  ,  cleos  started  to  reach  for  another  on  a  passing  tray  with  his  eyes  still  on  the  martell  princess  when  he  felt  him  touch  another  .  ❛  my  apologies  .  please  take  yours  first  .  i  wasn't  paying  attention  .  ❜  to  them  ,  that  was  .

the stables are the place that he allows himself to feel emotions without having consequences for it. the kingsmoot had tested his temper and control more than he has to deal with in the riverlands and he spends a lot of his time checking on their well being. the thoughts that he doesn't tell his family or other trusted people get said in the ear of his prized steed, bane.

aside from bane, cleos keeps hounds on the grounds of stone hedge but is seen the most with the ones that he has named bear and atlas. atlas is known to be protective over him and his family, while bear has a better temperament to be pet by outsiders but does not sit long for affection.

his gravitation to the old gods is because he finds them to be more dependable than the faith of seven. he has seen the septs and the citadels in king's landing and oldtown and thinks that is a smoke and mirror, and that those gods are ones that require a flashy display.

he's aware that he is someone that can be cruel in his ambition, and he doesn't hide the way that he feels others in the realm do. he's not a man that will put a pretty tongue on to soothe someone's ego and expects the same, however he knows that there is a fine line between honesty and being rude and doesn't allow people to cross it lightly.

he fears irrelevance more than death, understanding it to be a norm in life. his father's death is something that he's got complicated feelings for, and he knows that his mother's will be too. where their tempers are fire hot, his is a permafrost of control learned in his short stint in knighthood rather than from his parents' teachings. he wants to do what his mother hasn't, feeling that a lot of how their family has been wronged is because it's easy to ignore the loudest people in the room.
