The Court-Cards, especially the Kings and Queens, may be taken to represent persons; in this case their additional meaning should not be read. The Swords represent very dark people; Pentacles, those not so dark; Cups, rather fair people; Wands or Sceptres, those much fairer, and so on. Many Wands together might signify feasting, many Cups lovemaking, Swords quarrelling and trouble, Coins or Pentacles money.

Four Aces: Possibly a dangerous time, this is great energy here which may be positive or negative. Three Aces: Success and abundance, you will receive good news other cards should tell you if the good news is related to career, love , money etc. Two Aces: If the Ace of Cups and Pentacles fall together this could mean an union, partnership. A new home or a place to work. Twos Four Twos: Social Groups or teams, working groups. Three Twos: Reassessment  Threes Four Threes: Tenacity, Creative productivity. Three Threes: Lies, things are not what they seem. Fours Four fours: Rest,Security. Three Fours: A lot of work Fives Four Fives: Unstable partnerships, competitive influences Three Fives: Regular cycles, a solid routine. Sixes Four sixes: Harmony Three sixes: Completion Sevens Four sevens: Disappointment three sevens: Positive results and happiness. two sevens: love and balance Eights Four eights: Good news about work, journeys. Three eights: News of marriage or another alliance Two eights: Surprise development Nines Four nines: Accomplishment Three nines: Health, Wealth and happiness Two nines: Documents relating to business Tens Four tens: Success accompanied by tension. If any card is reversed there will be obstacles to overcome. Three tens: Litigation, business correspondence. Two tens: Lucky break, a new job. Pages Four: Groups of young people or students (schools or universities) Three: Parties, noisy social events Two: Trouble through friends Knights Four: Action, male force Three: Adult parties, invitations,dinners etc. two: Meeting old friends Queens Four: Entertainment if reversed then the event may be spoiled Three: Female group gatherings. Supportive and helpful associations Two: Gossip and secret between friends, this can indicate a rival. Kings Four: Public honours, powerful gatherings, important and successful business. Three: Groups of men, powerful or influential friendships. Two: Enterprise, a business partnership.

Timing with the Tarot Cards

First, count backwards from the last card that you have laid down. Ignore all Major Arcana cards and Court cards, then take note of the suit and the number of the First Minor numbered card that you come to.

In this system, each suit corresponds to a different measurement of time.

Cups: days (but cannot be counted unless next to a Pentacle card)

Wands: Weeks

Swords: Months

Pentacles: years

So of the last card placed in a reading was the Six of Wands, the events spoken of in the interpretation would occur within six weeks.

At the risk of confusing you, I should point out that individual cards often have a time period associated with the,. The moon often refers to one lunar cycle of twenty-eight days. The Sun could refer to summer, the Empress to spring, and the Star to Christmas, as well as the astrological signs associated with various Major Arcana cards.

The Minor Arcana suits, too, often refer to seasons. Wands are associated with springtime, Cups with summer, Pentacles with autumn and Swords with the sharp cold of winter.

These suits correspond to the aforementioned elements such that Wands is symbolic of Fire, Cups of Water, Swords of Air, and Coins of Earth. pairing

The technique the Golden Dawn used was to "Pair" the two outer cards of a sequence of cards, gradually working to the centre, "telling a story" that is developed at each stage. If there is an odd number of cards in the sequence we will be left with a solitary card at the centre, and it may have greater significance in the reading. When Pairing, the cards have equal strength, but with Elemental Dignities we can add another level of nuance.
