We're a swedish one-man studio dedicated completely to Audio Dramas, created by Pelle Frid.
Who we are
Pelle is in his late 20's and an electrician by trade. When not making audio dramas, he likes to hang out in various audio drama discords, play video games and vibe with his fiancee and cats.
What we do
Our first show is Sixth Door to the left, a inconsistently updated anthology with no connective tissue. tone and subject matter varies. Episode 1 drops 26/04-2024.
We are currently in development of The Loser's Game, a 9 episode show about people stuck in a alternative reality from where you can only escape by losing, both material and immaterial things. No ETA for this project
Down the line a project that we've been thinking about for nearly 10 years and have taken various forms is to be expected, with the working title Moist Stories. It will be a satirical superhero drama with elements of political intrigue and truly outlandish super powers. To give an example of this outlandishness, the Protagonist Captain Moist has hands that are constantly dripping wet, and are somewhat incompetent. The first villain he'll face is The Balloon Herder, equipped with an army of sentient helium balloons

I, along with @fayrobertsuk, am posting this information document on behalf of a group of audio drama creators and members of the community who have experienced or witnessed concerning behaviour by this person.
You may have seen them/him associated with projects such as The Parable's Allegory, The Wonderful Oz, The Ozland Effect, Mind the Analog, Into the Wanderer's Library, and also in the Doctor Who fan community with fan projects such as Starlit Saga. You are welcome to circulate the document, particularly if you know anyone who may be at risk from this person, for example new or young audiodrama fans or creators. As it is a PDF you are also welcome to upload it to another source provided the information is not edited in any way. The document should be accessible to screen readers but if you require another format, or large print we will try to help. A simplified summary is at the beginning of the document.
Myself and several others have chosen to be named in the document or have volunteered as point of distribution. However, given this person's history of manipulation and claiming persecution/bullying to avoid the consequences of their actions, other people understandably did not feel safe being named and are identified by a pseudonym. If you are able to recognise these people from context I must ask you to please keep that information private.
Privacy Is Part of the Product, Not an Afterthought
Building an AI companion is personal, and it should stay that way. One reason I trust SweetDream is that discretion is baked in. What I create and talk about on sweetdream.ai feels like mine, kept private, not something I have to worry about.
That sense of safety is a quality of its own. It lets you be honest, open up, and actually enjoy the connection without looking over your shoulder. If privacy is what's been holding you back from trying an AI girlfriend, this is the place that takes it seriously.

Let’s talk about Character AI, Chatbots, and Audio Fiction.
So, there’s been a recent controversy over on Character AI, which is a website where you can roleplay with Chatbots. This can be text or (relevantly) vocal. It’s come to light that there are thousands of character bots for audio drama characters, most frequently characters from The Magnus Archives. Actors whose voices have been emulated have reacted with shock and horror, and the production company Rusty Quill that produces TMA is at work submitting DMCA takedown notices for these bots, as they are in violation of copyright.
Now, what I’m going to take about is the Character AI community’s reaction to voice actor Guy Kelly, who played Mike Crew on TMA, being understandably upset by this.

I’ve spoken a little about this in that thread, and will share my response:
I’m going to pretend like some of y’all’s comments are in good faith and treat this as a teaching moment. Let’s break it down.
Source: I’m an audio fiction creator and voice actor. This is my industry, and I am personal friends with some of the actors affected by these bots. I’ve worked with some of these people for years.
When you voice act, you have a contract that says the company (in this case, rusty quill) can use your audio for that project. My company (BFM) can only use your voice for that project. We can’t put it in other podcasts, we can’t put it in a movie, we can’t use it to train AI. The project you’re contracted for is the only one we can use your audio for. This is to protect the actors rights to their own audio- if they were in a movie, they’d deserve to get paid again at the movies rate.
As for if he can legally enforce it- the copyright holder, in this case rusty quill, can. If this wasn’t taken from a project he’d made and was just his voice, not a character he played, he’d be the copyright holder.
Having your voice emulated is not only a violation, it’s a risk. Companies do not want to pay us for our work. Your voice being emulated, that data being available to a shady company that can do who knows what with it, that risks your voice being sold to be used by another company in perpetuity without giving you a cent. And voice actors are often broke- lawyers are expensive. They might not be able to pursue legal recourse to this happening. So they’ve lost income.
And all because someone decided they needed their blorbo to be able to talk to and didn’t take into account the fact that voices come from people, and actors aren’t your toys.
As for the CHARACTER being a problem, not just the voice: the writer and copyright holder, in this case Jonny Sims and Rusty Quill, has every right to be angry about their work being stolen and used to train AI. They had to feed audio taken from a script onto that bot to train it. Audio of words written by Jonny Sims. His writing style, his work.
That’s also something companies don’t want to pay for and are happy to steal. This training data having been stolen means his writing is now in these models, to be used for whatever purpose. Something he didn’t give consent for and wasNot paid for.
Beyond it just being kind of inherently disgusting (let me tell you, it feels REALLY GROSS to have your work stolen and emulated like this.) It’s a threat to our livelihoods to have our voices available for free to say whatever someone wants- why pay us, then?
THE REACTION
There's a lot of comments on this thread I won't subject you to. Many are stupid, rude, and entitled.
The negative response I’ve personally received is: The characters are not trained on existing content, no episodes were used. I did ask how a voice emulation was trained without using the voice, speaking lines from the script, and have not received an answer. Presumably these bots were trained on visions sent from God.
But that’s not all. I’m selecting one particular comment from the original post to highlight, as it’s got everything.
I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
Let’s go through this point by point. I’m skipping the stupid shit like “He’s not an artist.” Voice acting is an art.
“He has no right to be offended by a character.” As far as I am aware, Mr. Kelly is upset by the use of his voice. Rusty Quill, the owners of the character, are the ones submitting DMCAS to get their character removed from this site.
And the big one, which I’m summing up because TLDR:
“He’s not an artist, He has no right to copyright his voice.”
Yes. He does.
See the case of Crispin Glover in Back to the Future 2. He declined to reprise his role from the first movie due to low pay offers. The director cast a lookalike and used makeup and facial prosthetics to make him appear like Glover. Glover sued on the grounds that his likeness was not owned by the film, and they did not have the rights to use it. This case was settled out of court, but it set a precedent which lead indirectly to clauses in contracts with screen actors forbidding companies to use makeup to replicate a performer’s physical appearance. This clause is also used to defend actors against AI emulations of their appearances.
So yes. He has the legal right to his voice and likeness, commercial or non commercial.
The Magnus Archives is distributed under a Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license. These bots are in violation of this license by not attributing properly.
Rusty Quill is in full legal rights to have these taken down, and Mr. Kelly has every right to his own likeness. Remember Crispin Glover? He didn't try and sue to have his likeness removed from Back To The Future One, a project he'd consented to be in and was contracted for. He sued for the project using his likeness that he HADN'T been contracted for. Mr. Kelly is in the same situation.
But maybe this doesn't matter to you because it's non commerical. So lets talk about another major purpose of copyright.
Now, dumbing this down to the base principles, and quoting Lindsay Ellis, copyright exists to protect your share of the market.
As a voice actor, your voice, your craft, is your product. Your share of the market is your voice. You sell the ability to use that voice in certain projects to make a living.
Now, imagine that a near-exact copy of you is available for free. For anyone to use. How would this harm your ability to get work? I’ll give you two guesses.
No one needs to pay you for your voice anymore. It’s available for free, in a form that provides you no compensation and that you didn’t consent to.
Would you be mad about that? I would be.
I’d also like to point out a way this stuff directly affects actor income, and that’s Cameo.
Cameo is a service by which actors will record brief messages as either themselves or their characters for a set sum. Voice actors in the audio fiction industry do this a lot- Steve and Cam of OGOA sell cameos regularly, and often use the proceeds to donate to charitable foundations.
So, if a fanartist, role player, animator, or any other fan wanted to hear their favorite character say a certain thing, there is already an existing avenue by which they can get that audio, and the actor will be compensated fairly for it. I've done these vocal commissions myself when raising money for Palestine. It's common.
Use of these bots instead of paying for a Cameo or buying a voice commission means these actors do not get that income. This is indeed a direct threat to their income, and to their share of the market.
DAISY THAT WAS TOO LONG, CAN YOU SUM IT UP?
TLDR: I don’t agree with the use of character AI. The environmental issues alone are a problem.. Roleplay with your friends like god intended. But if you aren’t feeding transcripts into the thing to get your character out, I’ve got bigger problems to care about. Do what you want.
But to emulate a voice actors voice is a violation of good taste. It’s a violation of their copyright. It’s a violation of their rights to their own likeness. It is a threat to their income. It is illegal, it is immoral, it is wrong.

Buckle up friends, this one's gonna suck. I don't like having to do this, but we need to talk about a member of the audio fiction community who is a bad actor.
TW: Stalking, abuse, self-harm and extortion.
Let's talk about Jess Berson, creator of Regina Prime
In October of last year, my business partner had a very brief involvement with Jess. Their entire relationship began and ended in less than a month. Jess then started to behave erratically and abusively.
Posts altered to not name victims.
The real troubling behavior began almost immediately. Jess started lashing out at Joseph with threats and images of self harm she'd perpetuated on herself. This is a textbook case of domestic abuse.
When Joseph didn't respond the way she wanted, she escalated her behavior. She began sending harassing messages attached to PayPal donations, all the while claiming she didn't have the money for copays for her mental health visits.
When these were refunded and failed to have the intended effect, Jess further escalated. She sent a package to Joseph's former home with a vague threat against another creator in the community.
All the while, an email thread purpose built to harass people Jess had felt wronged her raged on. Jess has emailed as often as 2 dozen times a day, adding and removing people seemingly at random. This has been sent directly to people's bosses at networks as well.
Included in this email chain were messages that Jess had exchanged with Joseph's ex after Jess's abuse spilled out into the real world. Joseph's mother also began receiving odd and harassing phone calls and fake process servers showing up at her house around this time.
I'm certain that Jess will respond to this in some format with her own twisted version of events. We don't expect the abuse to stop by making this post, in fact we're sure it will get worse.
That's not the point.
The point is to save other people from being victimized.
Jess has been engaging in abuse of SEVERAL members of the audio fiction community for at least seven months now. Her behavior has everyone in fear of what the next escalation may be.
This is only our account of that abuse. Others have similar stories, I'm certain.
