894 Name:Trader@Live![sage] Date:Apr 21, 2013 (Sun) 16:58:35.43 ID:RYl80etb If you start saving $300 a month right now, by next year you’ll have $4,200 and could go on an overseas trip. If you start doing 15 minutes of exercise every day right now, your body will get balanced and toned. If you clean your room right now, it will become clean. If you polish your car right now, it’ll shine like new. If you cook dinner today, you’ll get better at cooking. If you go outside and run right now, your hormones get boosted and you’ll feel great. And yet here you are, glued to your computer, making excuses and doing nothing. You won’t try unless there’s a guaranteed reward. Newsflash: choosing the lazy path is your own decision. You’re the one holding yourself back. So get off and do something—cleaning, laundry, cooking, studying, working—whatever. Even if you’re playing, play smart. Think, think, think—do something that actually levels you up.
What the fuck
At the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan, there have been multiple incidents involving unpaid construction costs. These are not isolated cases but have occurred repeatedly. In Japan’s construction industry, large companies typically receive the main contracts and then subcontract the work to smaller companies. This creates a hierarchical structure with "parent," "child," and even "grandchild" companies. The parent companies hold considerable power, while the smaller subcontractors often suffer disadvantages. It is an open secret that "bullying of the weak" by more powerful companies is commonly practiced.
In addition, regarding food vendors at the Expo, there have been cases where businesses signed contracts and paid over 10 million yen in upfront fees, but were never provided with the promised storefronts to operate their restaurants.
In Japan today, the law requires married couples to use the same surname. Whether this should be changed to a system of optional separate surnames has become a topic of intense debate.
When a person changes their surname upon marriage, they must update the registration information for everything—from credit cards and driver's licenses to various public and private services. In practice, it’s almost equivalent to becoming a different person. To do this, people often have to take time off work to visit government offices, reapply for passports, and sometimes even pay additional fees. In 96% of cases, it is women who change their names. For many working women, this brings considerable inconvenience, and some continue using their maiden names professionally. Since their career has been built under their previous name, changing it offers no benefit.
Opponents of the change argue that a shared family name fosters a sense of unity and identity, strongly criticizing any move toward a dual-surname system. They claim that a common surname holds families together.
But is that really true? The current surname system only began about a century ago. At that time, most people in Japan did not even have surnames. There is no historical evidence that the lack of surnames caused families to fall apart. The “ideal family image” described by opponents is nothing more than a fantasy clung to by those who wish to resist change.
Many nearby countries allow married couples to keep separate surnames, and there is no indication that families in those societies are falling apart. That should come as no surprise.
If a couple divorces, the person who changed their name during marriage is often required to go through the process of reverting to their former surname. Who benefits from this? As mentioned earlier, 96% of those who change their names are women. All of these burdens fall disproportionately on them. As you might have guessed, those opposing surname reform are largely men—men who are not required to change their names whether they marry or not, clinging to an outdated notion of family that no longer reflects reality.
As you may know, Japan ranks 118th out of 146 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report. While Japan may be a great place to visit, it remains a very difficult country for women to live in.
In Japan, there is constant debate over whether to sing the national anthem at ceremonies, whether to raise the national flag, whether to have a military force to protect the country, and whether or not to mourn those who died in war. Discussions about World War II continue even among the current generations who have no personal experience of the war. As for me, I never saw the national flag being raised at school, nor did I ever sing the national anthem. When I talk about this as an adult, some people are surprised. It really varies a lot depending on the region.
