MYTHOLOGY MEME: GREEK GODS AND GODDESSES- ARTEMIS
Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto, twin sister of Apollo. She was born on the island of Ortygia, where Leto had found shelter after being hunted by the lawful wife of Zeus, Hera. As soon as Artemis was born, she helped her mother give birth to her twin brother, thereby becoming the protector of childbirth and labour. She asked her father to grant her eternal chastity and virginity, and never gave in to any potential lovers; devoted to hunting and nature, she rejected marriage and love.
She was the protector of nature and the hunt; both wild and tame animals were under her protection. She also protected the agriculture and animal herding.

Greek mythological figures [2/?] ↳ Perseus
PERSEUS was one of the most celebrated of the Greek heroes. His story was as follows:–Perseus’ mother Danae was locked in a bronze chamber by her father Akrisios, where she was impregnated by Zeus in the form of a golden shower. Akrisios put both mother and child in a chest and set them adrift in the sea, but they washed safely ashore on the island of Seriphos. Later when Perseus was grown, King Polydektes, command he bring back the head of Medousa. With the help of the gods, Perseus first obtained an invisible helm, magical sword, and winged sandals. He then stole the single eye of the Graiai, three ancient hags, who told him where to find the Gorgones.
The hero approached the sleeping Medousa, and beheaded her with eyes turned away, to avoid her petrifying visage. On his way back to Greece, he spied the princess Andromeda chained to the rocks as a sacrifice to a sea-monster. Perseus slew the monster, and rescued the girl, bringing her back to Greece as his bride. On Seriphos, he turned King Polydektes to stone, then travelled to his grandfather’s kingdom to claim the throne. The old man fled, and was later accidentally killed by Perseus at some Games with an awry discus throw.Perseus was the ancestor through his sons and daughter of the royal houses of Mykenai, Elis, Sparta, Messenia, and distant Persia. His most famous descendant of all was Herakles.

WOMEN OF MYTHOLOGY | Amphitrite, The Queen of the Sea
Amphitrite was the goddess and queen of the sea in Greek mythology. She was said to be one of the fifty Nereids, sea nymphs who were the daughter of Nereus and Doris. She was also the wife of the god of the sea, Poseidon, and mother to his son, Triton and daughters Rhodes and Benthesicyme. Amphitrite was essentially the personification of the sea, as well as the mother of the many beasts that roamed its expanse.
She is most famously acknowledged in the adventures of Theseus. When King Minos demanded that Theseus prove that he was in fact a son of Poseidon, he threw a golden ring into the ocean to test the hero. With the aid of Amphitrite and her sea creatures, Theseus was able to recover the ring. She also welcomed the hero into her own palace and presented him with a golden crown to give to Ariadne as a wedding gift.

"For his sake Poseidon, shaker of the earth, although he does not kill Odysseus, yet drives him back from the land of his fathers. But come, let all of us who are here work out his homecoming and see to it that he returns. Poseidon shall put away his anger; for all alone and against the will of the other immortal gods united he can accomplish nothing.”
