I have to admit, just when I think this city can surprise me no more, it goes and does just the opposite. Thank you, random group dressed like the Village People, for making my night with your impromptu performance outside the supermarket today. Though next time, maybe consider singing Macho Man without tearing your pants off halfway through.
Hear You Me: A Dixie St. James Playlist [ L I S T E N H E R E ]
TRACK LISTING →
Everywhere I go… there’s people staring at the phone in their hands. Playing Pokemon Go.
Now, I’m not dissing the game or anything. I may or may not have downloaded it myself. And a hell of a lot more people are frolicking in the streets exercising and trying to catch ‘em all. So it’s helping Michelle Obama achieve what she been trying to do for the last seven years in just a week. But what the fuck is the reasoning behind driving people to obsess and want to play the game so much that they’re playing it when they’re on a bike and almost run me over?
I have to admit, I’m impressed how it’s caught on like wildfire, though I do think some people could do to tone it back a little. Maybe I’d understand more if I’d been into that sort of thing, but even then, I don’t know that I can wrap my mind around how some people are letting it consume so much of their time. There was actually a man who jumped out of his seat, dressed in full business wear I should add, during another girl’s performance at my work to tell the entire building that he’d caught a… polygon? Polynomial? Porous? Something absurd.
I hope the bike rider was paying enough attention to at least apologize.
I’ve got a careers meeting today, but how i’m i suppose to know what i want to do for the rest of my life?? This seems stupid.
Isn’t that the point of career meetings and things like that though? So you have a chance to talk over what you like and what interests you and then they give you career ideas? I could be wrong, that’s just what I remember from school.
I can imagine that they are and that’s alright. I was just curious on how different it would’ve been.
Oh, sorry. I assumed. I didn’t mean to pit you against the others who does hold an opinion in my line of work. I think it’s not so much about skill but about patience and motivation. It’s not easy as it looks because one would have to finish a manuscript within a deadline and one has to know how to overcome writer’s block. It is, especially with my loud neighbours. Although I believe, one of them is cheating on the other.
I don’t know that I’d be able to shed any light on those differences, since.. well, I can’t really compare considering all I’ve ever known is brothers... ‘interesting’ is about the best way I can sum it up.
Oh no, it’s completely alright. Believe me, I understand having a job where people are quick to assume or pass judgment. Hmm... maybe, but there still has to be quite some skill there, I would think. Anyone can find the time to write, but that wouldn’t mean it’s going to necessarily be well-written.I can see how patience and motivation would be a big factor, though. And probably some pretty good time-management skills on top of that. Really? Well hey, maybe that’ll make for some new entertainment for you once the secret gets out.
…I am all for teaching kids arts and to play instruments and all that. It is a great thing. Go parents who do these things! But I swear to god, the neighbours kid needs a new teacher because obviously the current one is incapable. That screeching isn’t playing the violin…it is torture that makes my ears bleed and causes a severe headache.
Maybe it’s just a slow process. I can’t imagine the violin being all too easy to learn. Practice makes perfect, and all that.
That is also true. I enjoyed being having a sister but the drama can be exhausting at times. How is it for you? I mean, you have brothers. It must’ve been different, right?
It’s okay. You can say it. I know sometimes people have judgements on making a living in writing. I’d say I’m comfortable right now but with my expenses and having to get a shot at the doctors the other day, I think having another source of employment may help me, especially if I want to get that car. Oh, you have no idea how being at home is gradually becoming not good for me.
I’ve always hear sisters are a completely different world than brothers, but I can’t really compare to that. I do, but I don’t know if they’d be good to paint you a picture of what having brothers is like, they’re pretty... night and day to compared to one another.
Oh! No, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way at all, I actually find it rather interesting. Far be it from me to cast judgement on anyone for their way of employment, much less something like writing that must take a lot of skill. I think I can understand that. An extra source of income, I think, would definitely help you get that car faster. That... does sound like it’d get pretty maddening after a while, I don’t know that I could do it.
Because I have the musical talent of a teaspoon. Although… A teaspoon can be used to make music…
And did you enjoy learning it as a child? On really? Why do you think you’re not at a good skill level?
Musical talent of a teaspoon? That’s one I’ve never heard before. Still, music is only one small talent among a sea of other talents people can have.
Well... I don’t know about enjoying it while I was learning, but I am glad I know it now, if that makes any sense. When I was younger, it let like an obligation, now it’s just something I genuinely like. Oh, I just meant that, I started when I was young and it’s been quite a few years. I would’t say I’m no good, just that I’d still consider myself a beginner in that regard.
That is true. Not that I mean that I don’t get along with my sisters, I’d like to believe I do but it’s just a true statement that siblings get on each other’s nerves one way or another.
Thank you! That will certainly help, I think. Oh, I’m a self-help book writer however, I’m looking for another employment to help me along. I think being stuck in the apartment is doing something to me.
Oh, I understand what you meant. That seems to be how most siblings are, but it still seems nice. Even if they don’t always see eye to eye.
You’re a writer? Wow, that... definitely has to be interesting work. And self-help books, at that. But, I think I can understand wanting to get out some on top of that. Especially if it’ll help earn you a bit of money on top of that, though that sounds like pretty well-paying work right there
I’ve never heard that before but that sounds exactly right. You don’t really hear the same soundtrack in Paris.
It does, definitely.
Paris? Is that where you’re originally from?
A new chapter.
It really is. Thank you so much, Dixie.
You are very welcome. So, what exactly all is it that you’re doing? I know you said you’d be interacting with some pretty higher-ups, but what all does that entail, if I may ask?
Well, they are true unless there are siblings in this world that never gets on each other’s nerves. Now, those people are the kind of people I’d love to meet. Yes, it’s a custom design. Thank you. I am planning to do just that. Maybe even look into another form of employment to help me along too. Fingers crossed, I’ll get hired soon!
There are some siblings like that. I get along pretty well with my youngest brother, so I can attest to that as being mostly possible. Oh, then I can see how it’d probably be a little more expensive than most cars. Still though, maybe you’ll get lucky and be able to find one for sale reasonably soon. Well, I shall be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Is it okay if I ask what it is you do now?
It truly is. I’m more than capable in holding my own but I’m sick of hearing about the male anatomy, or seeing it for that matter.
I would think so.
What... exactly are you doing that requires seeing so many naked men...? If it isn’t too invasive to ask.
To a lot of people, it probably would come as a shock. Police officers aren’t really fan favorite to the general pop anymore.
Leo. My name’s Leo. What’s yours?
Maybe not, but acknowledging that fact, I think, paints you in a better light than some other officers around this city.
I’m Dixie. It’s nice to meet you, Leo.
Well… here’s one: I don’t draw my weapon and shoot a guy in the back at the first sign of a struggle. That might be a shocker. I’m really just wanna help people. And I don’t want to do it with my gun.
But I’m full of other exceptions. Surprises… Overall.
I... do suppose that’s a rather positive way to defy a stereotype... I don’t know if I’d say it’s a shocker, but it is nice to here something like that.
Oh? I think most people are full of surprises, but... it’s rather easier to seem so over the internet with strangers.
I’ve always lived in big cities as well, but New York is definitely the noisiest.
I guess I can see how that would help some people, but I just can’t do it.
I have heard people say there’s a difference between city noise and New York noise. This is the only city I’ve ever known, but I’ve never had anyone disagree with that statement.
I guess that’s fair enough. To each their own, so long as it’s what helps you to ge what you need finished.
