Low census means 2 extra activities this wk. Spent time trying to figure out my groups for the next two days and then I remembered I'm not working Saturday. I almost had a break down at that exact gate. My grandmother passed away on a Sunday. That Monday my significant other got hospitalized. I still had school and internship. In fact I had a wknd intensive. I was skipping class the Sunday to fly to VA for my grandmother's funeral. I made it to the airport and had an issue with my ticket. I had been up for 24hrs and while the ticket agents were trying to be helpful, i had no interest in taking a later flight. I watched them close the door and started to feel the hell of the week closing in on me. My ticket issue got fixed, they reopened the gate door and I ran down the ramp. Luckily I had a seat to myself because when i got settled I cried...and i cried and then I fell asleep. As I sit at my current gate, having only slept for 4 hrs since i woke up Friday morning...I acknowledge that signs of a break down aren't always hyperventilating and crying or screaming. Sometimes it's impulsively booking a trip to somewhere you've never been by yourself for a day. Smart decision? No but I respect my soul's demand for self-care. #BeingGentleWithMyself #ForgivngMyselfForTheExhaustionIWillFeelAtWorkOnTuesday #ExcitedToSleep #ExcitedToCatchSunrise

So today I turned my grp space into an obstacle course but each kid had a different limitation (i.e., blind, blind & deaf, blind deaf & handless, legless, a zombie). Orange cones were land mines and the grey yarn was barbed wire. Point #1: We often pretend that we don't see what we're doing/ what the consequences of our actions are. Nd we often turn away/ignore sound advice, or even the truth. Point #2: Everyone has some form of limitation but you have to first own your limitations to reach out for/receive support. You have to own that you play like you don't see/hear and own that you're rigid in your thinking and own that you sometimes feel like your legs are cut from under you or like you don't have the support/can't catch yourself when you're falling. #Ownership #OutOfTheBoxConversations #TalkToTheKids #TalkToYourself #DifferentWaysToConverse #RandomButPurposeful #ExpressiveArtsTherapist #ObjectLessons #EverythingTeaches #GroupClinician #AdolescentTherapist

When your personal life impacts your work life? Nd God is talking to you while you're facilitating a group? Was having a convo with my homeboy right before group and he said "you can't sow into dead things and reap life." It was still on my mind so I asked my kids what they thought that meant as a check in nd it became the whole grp. Be aware of how you "sow" into your life because what you harvest won't just impact you! Third new grp activity this wk. DIY stress balls. Asked my kids if they eat flour by itself or if they eat uncooked rice. Reminded them that they have to go through the process because life and recovery is a process. And I told them to be gentle with themselves (like they'll have to be with their stress balls so there isn't rice and flour all over the place. Cleaning the mess up isn't fun lol).
