Media Relations Mastery Journal
The past month, I’ve been studying the main concepts and ideals that the surround the media relations aspect of public relations. Originally, I believed that this course would only extend my knowledge on social media relations, but was surprised to find out that’s only 1 key part of understanding the total spectrum of the field.
By the first week of study, I realized that this course was way more complex. I learned key ways of how to deal and work properly alongside journalists, and what it took to create functional relationships with them. This meant learning the media ecosystem, the daily functions of a reporter, different types of reporters, and the differences between different media markets.
Once the second came around, we dove into the sales side of the industry by learning how to pitch editorials to reporters and journalists, as well as, the ethics needed in order to reach out properly to these individuals.
The third week studies surrounded the ways to properly conduct, handle, and preparation for a typical press release. My classmates and I were able to learn how to deal with a crisis, as well as, how to deal with “hard ball” questions. This information will help me become more comfortable once the time comes for myself to address the general public.
In all, this class definitely exceeded my expectations, and I feel more comfortable with how to handle certain situations surrounding media relations.

For the past 30 days, I’ve been studying Innovative Public Relations Tools and Resources, and I must say that this course has exceeded my expectations. Upon starting the course, I figured that I would be learning how to find innovative ways to learn and transform traditional PR practices in a digital age. As the course proceeded, I soon realized that there were several tools and resources that I would have to acquire before I’m able to apply new PR initiatives.
I learned by following trends and collecting useful metrics data that I would be able to stay above the curve and competition in this industry. I was able to analyze certain brands and observed how they’re utilizing social media platforms in order to receive larger profits and ROI. Already being an avid user on most popular social platforms, I was able to grasps the concepts fairly quickly.
I also learned how about several tools to manage all of my social media content strategically using Hootsuite.com. I downloaded the app to both my cell phone and my IPod, so I would be able to distribute digital content at specific times and dates. Working a 9 to 5, taking care of two teenagers, and an infant girl, this app really helped with my time management skills that I was in dire need of.
As I continue on this mastery journey, I definitely plan to continue to use these tools and resources gained this month with all of my future endeavors. I also plan to use them with my personal branding pages, in order to deliver a professional and strategic profile on each social media platform. I’m very glad that i was able to learn all I did this month, and I can’t wait to put them to use in the real world.

My Journey Through Social Media Metrics & ROI Studies
For the past 30 days, I’ve accepted the fact that majority of e-commerce and daily business engagements are conducted via social media. Prior to entering this course, I thought that measuring the performance of your brand through social media would be a breeze, but I was mistakenly wrong. As I dove deeper into the curriculum, I soon came to the realization that they’re several aspects associated with social media metrics, as well as, ROI procedures.
Traditional Marketing and advertising efforts have migrated to the online world due to the ever-growing of technology being released amongst the public. Many consumers shop, search, and interact online, so companies have been forced to market their services and goods in such a way that’s easily accessible by it’s consumers.
That’s why mastering SEO practices, managing KPI’s, and creating social media plans are key to operating a successful business in today’s society, which was intensely taught to me this past semester. Upon completion, I have a gained a better insight into the tools available that will help me track and manage my online presence amongst my target audience. I will continue to utilize these tools in order to market, advertise, and brand my products and services.
