For those that do not know, I lost my father 01/23/2020. We stood by him, said goodbye to him in the hospital in Pensacola and had to unplug him. My father spent 2 weeks in the hospital. He had a fever for a week. First day being in the ER, second day getting admitted, day 3 in the ICU.. after a week in the ICU he was transferred to Pensacola for his last chance at life. 5 days later, he was announced brain dead.
First day his oxygen level was at 76%. He was put on oxygen and got admitted. The 3rd day they checked his levels, it dropped to 42%. He was then intubated. He could no longer talk, we communicated through writing. The next day he started getting worse, they then trached him.. We found he had H1N1 (Swine Flu), fever of 103, pneumonia, he then had pneumothorax, had bilateral chest tubes put in, after that he was no longer awake. Hospital kept him paralyzed due to the fact he kept fighting against the ventilator. They finally made the call to send him away to Pensacola for his last chance with ECMO. Which they do not do unless it’s absolutely his last resort. After 5 days, he had multiple strokes and was brain dead. I got the news while driving home from Tallahassee. I cried the whole 2 hours. My mother was all alone in Panama City. Timmy was at school and Vu was in Pensacola by himself next to my father. I have never felt such pain in my heart.
My father brought my family together for one last time with him. I hope I made him proud. I hope he knows he has taught me so much in life to help survive. I promise to take care of the family. I’ll try my best. I love you, Ba. I miss you so much.
