What in the world made people think Tila Tequila was hot?
What in the world made people think Tila Tequila was hot?
I saw this online and I just had toā¦.
Iām so sorry.
I think this is Plague of Gripes.
On your feet, little lion man.
Guess I should put something here. Blah blah blah, life happened, blah blah blah, finally on feet, blah blah blah, working and living on own for first time. I bought the workbook for Drawing on the right side of the brain. Thatās where Iāve been doing what little drawing Iāve been doing. Iāll take pictures of the drawings for prosterities sake. Might even do a little of the actual talent I have -writing- on here sometime as well. The Echo chamber needs a make-over, too. Hmm. Iāll try to update it all another day. Goonight.
Bit of a loaded question, but how did you get your start in being serious about drawing? Did you read anything, do any specific exercises, ect?
Hmmm, that is a bit of a loaded question.Ā Iām guessing youāre asking because you are aspiring to a more serious artist.Ā I donāt have any tips, but I do have some advice.Ā I hope some of it helps:
DO NOT COMPARE YOUR ART WITH OTHERS.Just donāt do it.
Study.Ā Thereās not a single book that will teach you everything you need to know.Ā Learn by studying other artistās technique and process and apply what you learn to your drawing.
Draw/Sketch something everyday.Ā Draw as much as you can when you can.Ā I used to draw on receipt paper with a ballpoint pen when I worked as a cashier whenever things were a little slow.Ā Just donāt show your work to your boss.
Donāt be a perfectionist.Ā Not everything you draw has to be a masterpiece.Ā Donāt stress yourself.
Go out for a walk sometimes.Ā A healthy body makes for a healthy mind, which makes for healthy art.
AVOID DISTRACTIONS!!!Ā Iām still working on this one myself.Ā I love to waste my time on the black hole known as āThe Internet.āĀ Avoid things that will waste your time.
Stay positive!Ā Itās normal to feel a little down about your art from time to time, but it doesnāt help anyone.Ā Especially you.Ā Do what you got to to get over it.
Take a break.Ā Ā Youāre not a machine and need to take a break sometimes.Ā Even from drawing.Ā Take a break when you need to and get some fresh air, take a nap, play a game, visit friends, read a book, whatever you like to do.
HAVE FUN AND DRAW THINGS YOU ENJOY.Ā Ā Donāt draw things for the sole purpose of getting popularity/notes/likes/comments/etc, just draw what you genuinely enjoy.Ā If you like it, then thereās going to be others that like it too.
Thatās about all I got right there.Ā These are things I keep in mind when I go about my art projects.Ā It sounds like quite a bit of work, and it kind of is when youāre serious about art.Ā But when youāre passionate about art, itās worth it.
Hope this is helpful in some wayĀ or another.Ā :D
Just wow. Thank you so much for taking the time for...all of this. You've no idea how motivating this is. I'm going to look at this everyday once I can stop getting choked up about it. You're the artist I've looked up too the most since I started wanting to draw, so this - and our and Kevin's whole carpet squirrels thing - It means a lot. Thank you. I'll work hard.
Second of the upside down exercises from the book 'Drawing on the right side of the brain. Though..after having doubt sewn from a few different sources about the book teaching bad habits for beginners, and consulting a friend who's already very good at drawing, I've decided to drop the book. I looked over the next few exercises and feel it's the best thing to do. So that means no drawings for awhile, while I move on to read Andrew Loomis books, recommended by Ctchrysler in his FAQ section! I'll keep up practice of course. Art above is an upside down copy of The german horse and rider by an unkown artist.
Drawing upside down exercise, I used Sai to turn my page upside down, but I...have no idea how to save it at -90 degrees to have this right side up. Anyway, I made this Russian Mathematician look like he was the elephant man. Im sorry, guy.
First exercise, part 3, draw your own hand. Actually rather pleased with this one.
Second drawing, a face from memory. Even worse than the self portrait, butĀ at least I'm getting practice in.
I've gotten to the part of the book where it instructs you to draw 3 things to get a starting point for your drawing skill. So here is a terrifying self portrait. Hand and a face from memory will come shortly.
Holy shit this is terrifying
This is it, I've decided to finally shut up and do this thing. Start documenting my progress starting at Zero from an art standpoint, using the book 'drawing on the right side of the brain' as a stepping stone to get...well, to get anywhere.
I have a few people to thank before I post anything, for giving me the confidence to start this so late - something that people younger than me have already made a career in. SpazzyKoneko, who pushed me to buy my first tablet and let me call her teacher for the short while we spoke.
Lizombie for recommending the book that is helping me get any kind of foothold.
And finally, Tsudanym and KevinSano, for starting an inside joke with me and helping me feel like once I got up near their level, I might be able to call people like these friends. Now that I'll be posting what work I do, you can call me Djma. I'll try my best, and if all goes belly up, at least this'll be a blog you can look at to laugh at an adult drawing like a child.
