Sebastian Diaz Morales, Suspension
Description at the Biennale:
Morales’ interest in cinema reaches back to his childhood in Patagonia, when he filmed his family with his fahter’s bulky camera. Coming of age in a time of political upheaval in Argentina, Morales turns a disconcertingly lucid gaze on the contemporary world. Suspension explores the boundarie between reality and fiction. It begins with a chumerical view of a thick cloud of white vapor that dissipates to reveala man suspended in space. He seems to be fallin in slow motion, his eyes closed, transcending time. Inspired by the Absoluten Calfeutrail comics by Moebius (1977), the work is a sort of allegory of modern man, remaining impertubably passive as he falls. Combining documentrary aesthetics with phantasmagorical narrative, Morales’ films become an allegoricale tale, a philosophical and poetic quest.
Description in words: In the house, closed doors, you hear on the other side of the door a whispering, 2 people talking, gossip. You can have a tiny glimpse into the room through the key hole. (i think the two people talked different languages)
Michal Cole and Ekin Onat - The Journey from Being Human to Human being - Sound installation
Hidden behind a locked door, a whispered conversation entices visitors to lsten at the keyhole. A collaboration of Cole and Onat, it acts as an auditory totem that unifies the essential tenets of Cole’s Domestic Godless and Onat’s Dead End. Speaking in their native tongues of Hebrew and Turkish, the converstaion is a futile attempt to exchange ideas and communicate - a dialogue lost in translation, frustration and contrition.
