New ref sheet for DK cause it's going to be 2025 ! The tumblr @ in this one is another account I was supposed to use but didn't, meh. My hyperfixations keeps changing all of the time but this one is still pretty accurate for now, it was made in July but yeah... I forgot.
I should stop forgetting that my Tumblr Account is still existing- I really want to try posting more but im a little unmotivated atm (since months-)
Anyways, here's a realistic vessel drawn with polychromos :>
i did it all by hand with a simple paper mask as a base, airdry clay and arcylics and im so happy with how it turned out but we wont talk about the paintjob please bahah
As this is only my second clay mask I'm certainly not an expert but here is some of the process under the cut, i case you are interested:)
I sadly forgot to take a picture of just the paper mask before, but here we go!
(edit: Im dumb and used the term "clay" for modeling paste, but tbf it does feel the same- keep that in mind while reading this i guess hahaha)
So i dont have a picture where i'm not wearing it of this stage, but i basically got a normal paper mask, custom made the eyehole and cut off the bottom for the mouth and the tip of the nose before covering it in painters tape
I first wanted to keep the other eyeholes closed off and just modelling them later, but i decided that it would be a lot cooler and less complicated to make it look right if i cut them all out. The bottom eyes aren't cut out because of the same reason but i did eventually cut them as well.
I also started to cover the painters tape with duct tape to make it sturdier and to prevent the painters tape to get loose from wet clay later in the process (which was definitely a good choice-)
for the inside i used padding from a Bra (yes thats right) to make it more comfy. Also, get superglue if you can, mine took like 4 tries to have it stick-
i apologize for the dumb pictures bahahah but this is the mask after the duct tape, still havent cut out the smol eyes. This step is also the last chance to make a way to safely wear the mask in the end.
i didn't take pictures of the modeling process because my fingers were full with clay- BUT
working it with wet/damp hands will make your like so much easier...
when i was done sculpting (and washing my hands for good 10 minutes-) i left it to dry for at least a day. This was about an hour after i was done sculpting the mask.
After drying i started to paint it white. Heres also a glance on what the inside looked like. I did eventually cover it in cloth and more padding, because this thing is HEAVY.
Before that, i filled all the cracks i could find with glue to prevent the edges from crumbling and thus making the crack wider. there was one thin major crack on the forhead and a few at the corners of the eyes, the rest were very small and almost invisible.
If you work with clay well enough, it shouldnt form cracks i think, so any tips on preventing those are welcome :)
After the glue it was time for the sigil, which i freehanded as best as i could x) as soon as that was dry i covered it in clear polish, let it dry completely and finished with the inside.
Now, the inside is ugly af and i shouldve used fabric- or superglue for this because this was a struggle- but it worked out in the end and made it at leas a tiny bit nicer.
i might cover it again in the future, but for now this works well enough.
With that, i'm done and can move to the other parts of the full costume ad i will stop spaming selfies for now 0v0
