More portraits by the talented Scott Witter from the Dec 6 show at Largo. Last batch will go up tomorrow.
05x21 “Two Minutes to Midnight” 10x23 “Brother’s Keeper”
Oh Death…
I’m sorry, but you just cannot tell me that this is the face of a man who had fully intended to hit Death with his own scythe. Dean may have missed Sam on purpose, but I don’t think he had planned on striking Death. Just look at his expressions. It’s like he is coming out of a haze and realizes what he did then. That expression is not a “Hell yes, it worked” to me, but a “Oh shit, what have I done? This was not supposed to happen…”
Anyway… What I actually wanted to talk about briefly again is how especially in relation to 5x21 “Two Minutes to Midnight” when Dean meets Death for the very first time - and really there is so much reverse mirroring to this episode and 5x22 “Swan Song” going on in 10x23 “Brother’s Keeper” with Death for example, who knew 5 years back that the biggest problem for the Winchesters is letting go. BTW I sometimes think Death knew all along that Dean would not keep his promise and would try to break Sam out - he brings his scythe. Sure it looks different than the one Dean swings in the finale, but I willl just go with that they are meant to be the same.
I have talked about this multiple times before - how certain weapons have a very special connection to certain beings and how those can only be killed with their own weapons like Cain and the First Blade, Angels and Angel Blades or now Death and his scythe for example (see here) - but I want to come back to it once more, because when keeping in mind what Crowley said in 5x21 and what happened in 10x23 should Dean not just have killed Death’s human vessel, shouldn’t he be the one to take his place?
After killing Cain Dean was the only and true bearer of the mark and the blade, because he was a) able to use it in the first place and b) against the being it originally belonged to. If Death is dead, then I personally think it would only make sense if Dean now was the rightful “owner” of Death’s scythe and with that possibly the new Death (see here). It’s not like we couldn’t say that Death had a soft spot for Dean for a long time and somewhat put him in his shoes…
His badge is still upside down, I’m so emotional
