Corona-virus 1 : Politicians 0
Although, I am not old enough to vote in the States, as well as not even living there at the moment. I come from an American household but now live in the UK. Due to it being that time of the year, election season, I have attempted to educate myself on upcoming election and the political views in the States, as it’s not something anyone can avoid as everywhere on social media is pretty much just about Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Anthony Fauci and many more.
At the moment the main discussion is what is going to happen to USA’s economy due to Corona-virus and how they’re going to deal with it. Both Biden and Trump obviously have two completely different views on this as they’re apart of different political parties, Biden being a Democrat and Trump a Republican.
Biden want’s to be able to shut the country down as the cases of the virus rapidly increase infecting more and more people and killing thousands upon thousands of others.He wants to be able to control the spread and decrease it as fast as possible, however there could be complications of small businesses suffering from the lack of income, causing middle class families and those in poverty to suffer as well as students not receiving the correct education that they are paying for in college.
However, Trump wants to do the exact opposite and open everything. His argument is that he himself suffered from corona and surpassed it. He believes that corona is something that the people just have to get on with and move past. This is highly controversial as thousands of families have been devastated by the virus and the fact their President of all people is telling them to just move past this is quite frankly absurd. It’s possible that Trump’s aim is to go for herd immunity, although he hasn’t publicly said this. The complications with this are that before things can take a good turning point, things will have to get a lot worse, causing more and more people to become infected and many more to unfortunately pass away.
Ultimately i believe it’s not worth the chance of herd immunity, although in the long run it’ll hopefully lead to people becoming immune to the virus, this isn’t guaranteed as we have already seen new strains of the virus over the past 6 months. Therefore i believe Joe Biden’s plan would be the most beneficial to control the virus, however they would have to be able to make sure families across the nation are obtaining the correct amount of help as this will be a an extremely difficult time for the country.
