“oh you don’t have to. You could gaze with me if you want?”
“If you wouldn’t mind. I don’t want to ruin your personal gazing time.”
“Glasses could act like that though, not that I wear glasses but still.”He murmured. Somehow his own thought brought comfort to him. “It’s called having asshole friends.” He huffed, shaking his head a little. “It was like guys night in, but I passed out pretty early cause I was exhausted, and the guys thought it would be funny to dump buckets of glitter over me, until I woke up and basically got a whole bucket full to the eye. Not cool.” He sighed, rubbing his eyes subconsciously as he told his story. “Wait, the sorority girl hand on hip, is that literally just putting your hand on your hip, I haven’t heard of that one. Peace and pout is my go to.”
“Well now I’ll be super weary of wearing my glasses. I mean I’m already concerned about my contact being melted onto my eye so why not worry about my glasses melting my eyes too.” She laughed before listening to the story and she shook her had, “Dang. Did they at least draw on your face too? Because that is what I thought all boys nights ended with.” She nodded, “It’s like the one post that all the sororities do.” She laughed, “Peace and pout is definitely the way to go. You’ll get a vogue cover with that one.” She said.
listening to her words, william rolled his eyes playfully before his arm moved around her shoulders and he started walking, thus pulling her along with him. “fine we’re hanging out… outside. happy now??” he teased, nudging the twenty five year old mockingly. “you better appreciate this.”
she followed him as his arm went around her shoulders. “I’m totally happy. See we’re outside and it’s not totally awful.” she laughed even though she knew he was totally mocking her. “Believe me. I appreciate it--it’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me.” she teased before looking at him, “Why are you so against being out here anyway? Not a fan of vitamin D and the sun?”
“Oh I didn’t even notice.” she looked around. “Thanks but i’m good. ”
“Alright. Well nevermind then. I’ll leave you to your lake gazing.”
“—-i’d rather just go inside and eat.” william mumbled to the person next to him, running his hand through his hair as he looked down at the lake. “and watch movies, maybe play video games, stay out of the sun, y’know??” will hadn’t been himself lately, but it was easy to brush off. "sup though?? do you need something?"
Grace followed his gaze out at the lake as she fixed her gaze on a few of the fish that were swimming around at the surface. “Stay out of the sun? Where’s the fun in that Will? You can stay air conditioned whenever.” She said, “I just came to see if you wanted to hang out but now that you’re trying to escape into the abyss of the lake house, I need you to hang out with me. Outside.” She laughed. “Unless you’re really against it.”
“Really? That’s cool. Have you ever seen those photos where people connect the stars to make random pictures? I remember one where it was like.. a toilet?”
“There are people that actually do that? That sounds like super cool. I think you should try and make on of those.”
“The whole idea seems like some Saw shit or something.” Derek laughed, closing his eyes as if he were trying to stop his eyes from falling out of their sockets. “Maybe we should move away from the eye topics. It’s starting to freak me out now.” He admitted truthfully. He could feel his cheeks heating up as Grace easily determined the truth to his story. “Okay, maybe it is sorta true. It really hurt and yes I did cry it out for a bit but it was fine.” He was praying the red colour in his cheeks would die away soon and not get any worse. “The pose, what pose? The peace and pout?”
“Definitely. Although there would be some kind of magnifying glass involved I’m sure of it.” She shook her head, now imagining all the damage that could come from that and she nodded, “Yeah, I think that would be a great idea.” She said as she now began to focus on his story instead. “Oh wow. That sounds awful. What were you doing that caused the glitter to get in your eye in the first place?” She asked. She nodded when he suggested the peace and pout pose, “I think that one would totally qualify--or there is always the sorority girl hand on hip one too.”
Sofia was sitting in the same spot for what felt like about an hour, she was admiring the view that was in front of her eyes, she was in her own fairy tale not even blinking an eye. It wasn’t until she heard someone talking that she zoned back in, she shook her head “Sorry, what were you saying?” she asked with a slight smile.
When the other girl didn’t answer her, Grace almost turned around and walked away, figuring that she didn’t want to be bothered. However when she finally answered her, Grace was relieved that she actually wasn’t just ignoring her and hadn’t actually heard her. “Oh, I just wanted to see if you needed a towel or a water or something--you were out here when I left for my run and when I came back you were still here so I figured you might need something so the sun isn’t totally beating down on you.” She said.
“You have a point. I would miss that said beautiful face of yours way too much. C’mon, G. When’s the last time summer didn’t suck?”
“At least you admit it. Plus you said I had a beautiful face which is always a plus. I don’t know--they might be a little annoying but I don’t think they necessarily suck. I get to be surrounded by some of my favorite people so it’s not all bad.”
“I have never been able to see all of the constellations.”
“I don’t think I have either. I think my star knowledge extends to the Big Dipper and like Orion’s belt.”
“Yup. It belongs here. It’s not all my clothes. Just this thing. This one thing that everyone should know by know is so important to me.”
“Well if it’s so important to you, then we should definitely find it.”
“Nah, I’d like to still believe my eyeballs would probably melt if I looked at the sun too long. The fear keeps you from doing it.” He laughed, shrugging as he really thought it through. The thought of his eyeballs definitely made him shiver, not a good thought. “Nah sparkles get into your eyes and irritate them, it’s not good. Then you cry for like ten minutes trying to get it out and the whole thing is really messed up.” He mumbled, taking the sunglasses before slipping them onto his face. “How do I look? Hot?”
“You should probably keep that fear up. Don’t want you losing any eyeballs.” She shook her head as she thought if it was actually medically possible to cause your eyes to melt and she figured if she hadn’t seen it in the ER or on one of her medical mystery shows that it probably hadn’t happened. She laughed when he started talking about eyes again, “With all the worries about getting things in your eyes, I really hope that you don’t have to put contacts in.” She told him before raising her eyebrow, “And that story seems way too specific to have actually not happened. Next time you do that just flush it out with water, no crying involved.” She said to him before watching him put on the sunglasses and she nodded, “Oh totally. You’re missing the pose but definitely so hot you could make anyone faint.”
“Of course I did. It’s my lake sweatshirt. I only wear it here.”
“You have a sweatshirt that you only use at the lake? I don’t know if I could handle being away from my clothes from so long.”
“It would probably like melt my eye balls or something, right?” He chuckled, his dopey smile still firmly in place. “You think, do I look super refreshed? I feel like I’ve been sleeping for fucking years or something.” He hummed, his eyes slowly opening as they began to adjust. “I don’t think sparkles look that great on me, so…” He shrugged, “I keep my glitter to a minimum.”
“That’s what they always told me as a kid. But who knows, the older I get the more times I find out that what I was told as a kid isn’t actually true at all.” She nodded as she looked at him, “Oh definitely.” She nodded again before listening to him, taking her sunglasses off as she blinked a couple of times to get her eyes to adjust without them. “Who knows? Sparkles are known to bring out some facial features.” She laughed before nodding, “That’s probably a good idea though. It just ends up on everything anyways.” She held out the glasses to him, “But these are glitter-free, so all yours.”
“Is it not possible for it to burn brighter though? Or am I talking shite?” Derek laughed, using the palm of his hand to rub his tired eyes. “Yeah, slept in. Made the most of my day, it was great.” He hummed, a sleepy smile on his lips. “Depends, do they have little sparkles or anything on them?”
“Well I guess it is. Although don’t look directly at it and you might get off okay.” Grace said as she watched the boy rub at his eyes. “Sounds like it. Looks like it was worth it too.” She laughed before shaking her head, “This pair doesn’t, so it looks like it’s your lucky day. Unless you wanted the ones with the sparkles on them.”
“Hey! You should come and have some coffee with me. I don’t want to go by myself. C'mon, my treat.”
“Okay, okay. We’ll get coffee. Although I’m kind of hoping they are starting to have those lemonade refresher things because I’d take that over coffee any day.”
“1.3 million Earths could fit inside the sun, an average-sized star and now that makes us really tiny, almost like an ant compared to the sun.”
“The sun is only an average-sized star? And if as a whole planet we are tiny, imagine just you against the sun. That’s pretty scary, like David versus Goliath but 100 times worse.”
