This scene really boggles me and I still don't think I fully understand it

What was going through Bakugo's mind when he said that?

Deku interpreted it as he'd rather 'lose' than accept his help, like in their final exams against All Might. But I don't think he's right because Bakugo had already grown past that in said exams. I don't think he'd be that stubborn that he still wouldn't accept Deku's help simply because it's Deku, especially in a grave situation.

I don't think it's him being worried for Deku either. I mean he probably did care in the basic human decency level when you see someone running towards you when they're injured, but it's doesn't seem like a moment that's trying to emphasize how much Bakugo cares for him. Also, Bakugo didn't really see Deku as a friend at this point. They still haven't made up, and Bakugo still doesn't know what Deku felt about him. The original text was also more like "Don't come" than "Stay back", so it doesn't quite feel like concern.

I do think Bakugo saw that as another instance of Deku's selfless self-destructive heroism, which at that point he recognized but didn't understand, and still felt conflicted by. But that doesn't really explain the exact words Bakugo said. I don't think "his concern despite his feelings" cuts it, and it's not that he's just completely incapable of accepting Deku's help. Maybe it's because he didn't want to accept that kind of saving, the kind where someone who's completely destroyed themselves would still do anything when it comes to saving someone else? That does kinda lead to him being concerned for said person, but it's not the driving force

I love the train of thought you have going here and the only response I could think of is that: He didn't want to be the reason for someones downfall. Which, in turn, is what happened anyways, and probably why he reacted the way he did.

Because even if it's not your fault, when someone acts so selflessly and is willing to give up their life (presumably) for you, wouldn't you feel at least partially responsible? I don't think he wanted that responsibility, that guilt.

I think he could see how close Deku was to some sort of end.

Not to be cringe and post a roleplay ad on main but hey, I’m desperate.  Here’s the run-down: I recently joined an awesome BNHA roleplay server on Discord. I’m currently rp’ing as a few characters, but most notably for this post, Tenya Iida. You see, my favorite ship in all of BNHA shipping involves him, but unfortunately it is a RAREPAIR. Iidayama owns my heart and soul. And so, tumblr, I come to you begging in a pitiful state- I need an Aoyama roleplayer to make this happen. Currently, we’ve got a temporary Aoyama, but no major things have occurred. Some things about the server: -Everyone there is incredibly friendly. I have never met a sweeter group of people, and honestly they’re quickly becoming people I’d call close friends. I have a ton of social anxiety, but joining them and entering the rp has been so easy because everyone is so kind and open.  -It has a TON of well-organized channels for all sorts of roleplaying. Group chats, in-person, if you can name it it’s probably there. And new channels can be suggested and added all the time! There’s plenty of OOC channels for discussion, plotting, and random things as well!  Preferences and my RP style: -I usually go for two paragraphs + dialogue! I’m flexible but I’d really appreciate an rp partner who can match that. -Only adults (18+) please! If I remember correctly, that’s a requirement of the server anyway.  -I’m completely fine with NSFW themes (more than fine, actually), but only in DMs. The server itself is fade-to-black, for everyone’s comfort. -Honestly, I’d be down to do some one-on-one roleplaying if you aren’t comfortable joining a server!
