A/N: I wrote something. I miss Rick Grimes. He deserved better; that is all.
Rick squinted in the afternoon sun of the Virginian autumn day. He took a deep breath and then glanced down at his wristwatch before looking over at his fellow workers. Everyone was fulfilling their duties, just as Rick was. He always wanted to lead by example. This day was no different. But a break was nigh and all Rick wanted was to be home with his family. He packed up his tools and made his way in the direction of his and Michonne’s house. He missed her, even though it had only been a few hours since he had seen her last. He knew she and the children would be pottering around their house, enjoying themselves, as always. She was an amazing mother to the Grimes brood and he was beyond blessed to call her his own.
He wiped the sweat from his brow and stepped up onto the front porch. Opening the door, he kicked off his dusty boots and made his way inside. Carl was waiting with Judy and R.J.
“Y’all had something to eat?” asked Rick.
“Yeah,” replied Carl. “Michonne fixed us something.”
“Where is she?” Rick queried.
“Having a rest,” Carl answered. “You hungry?”
“Not just yet,” Rick said, before making his way up stairs.
He stood in the doorway of the bedroom he shared with Michonne. His heart filled with love and adoration when he saw her curled up on their bed. Smiling, Rick entered the room. His eyes took in the sight of his wife bundled up on top of their bed with her arm draped over her very pregnant tummy. She looked so peaceful and Rick could not help but grin. He approached silently, making sure his footfalls were not loud enough to rouse her from her deep slumber. He took a moment to soak up the view: Michonne resting serenely with their child growing inside of her.
He could not be thankful enough. They never thought they would be so blessed, at the end of the world, to have a second child. Despite his worries; in spite of their concerns, Rick and Michonne were ready. They were ready to build more for the future. Each and every day was a blessing for them. A blessing that ensured that their little family persisted and grew. That they gave all that they could. That they gave all that they would to make sure they had one more day with a chance.
Quietly, Rick leaned down on the bed and placed a gentle, loving kiss to Michonne’s shoulder before climbing in behind her. With his work done, he would rest with his beloved and relish in the feeling of knowing that she had led him to that place. Relish in knowing that with her, he had found the something else that others only dreamed of.
