Feel So Close

Summary:Â Â Rick Grimes has held unrequited feelings for his best friend, Michonne, since beginning college three years ago. Finding Michonne enjoying herself with another guy makes Rick believe heâs lost any chance of telling her how he really feels. Could there still be a chance for the two friends to become more or is it too late?

Rick tried to quell his disappointment as he read over Michonneâs text again. He let go of the door handle and muttered an apology to a group of fellow co-eds who smiled widely as they walked past him into the double doors of the busy cafĂ©.
There was no point in trying to call her again so he wrote back.
He checked his left and right before crossing the street heading back towards campus staring intently at his phone, he tightened his grip on the law textbook and writing pad in his other hand the longer he waited for a response. After a couple of minutes he gave up and slipped the phone into his back pocket. The light-hearted mood heâd been in since leaving his dorm room (not even dampened by the ribbing session heâd gotten from his best mate) evaporated.

Rick hates these things. He pulls at the sleeve of his fitted, black Armani suit, then rolls his shoulders as he clears his throat. Heâs been pretending to be interested in the fellow Senators conversation but if thereâs anything that he hates more than these boring dinner parties, itâs listening to the Republican platform. He glances around the room as he brings his champagne flute to his lips, taking a long sip as his blue eyes scan the room. He spots his wife across the room, standing elegantly among a group of wives, laughing heartily. He lets his eyes linger on her, a soft smile springing to his lips as he drinks her in.
Her gold Versace dress clings to every curve she possesses. The deep V neckline plunges down to damn near her belly button. Her long, toned arms are bare and on full display, her hair piled high on her head in a bun. Her diamond earrings glint underneath the lights of the ballroom, which eventually catches her large, five karat wedding ring as she places her hand to her chest. He is the luckiest mother fucker in this room and every other dude here knows it. His phone buzzes after a moment, and he pulls it from his pocket, taking his eyes off of his long time love.
I see you lookin at me old man.
He chuckles at her text and taps his fingers across the glass screen of his iPhone. Just admiring the view⊠can you honestly blame me? You look incredible in that dress.
He watches as the three dots appear on his screen, jumping every so often as she types her response. Her text finally comes through and his mouth drops open as he skims over her words.
You wanna fuck me in it?
He scoffs lightly as his lips curve into a shocked smile. He shouldnât even be surprised, she does this to him every time he has a function like this. She takes a sick pleasure in getting him riled up at exactly the wrong time. He throws his eyes toward the group of women to only find his wife gone. He turns his head, looking around for her to no avail. He shoves his phone back into his pocket, not even wanting to reply, knowing that heâll get another raunchy text in return. Unfortunately for him, the damage is already done. He brings his champagne to his lips again, chugging the rest of the glass as his mind begins to swim with images of him pulling the dress up over her ample, fat ass. He can practically feel her pressing that magnificent behind into his crotch as he nibbles at her earlobe and palms her breasts in his hands. Stop it! His inner voice hisses, you have to give a fucking speech in a few minutes.
He clears his throat again, trying to rejoin the conversation happening around him, but his vision and hearing is beginning to tunnel. He is now acutely aware that all the blood in his body is rushing to his stirring dick. Six words. Six little words have completely broken him. He rubs at his beard with his hand, pulling at his chin and mouth as he tries to redirect his thoughts to cold showers, Lena Dunham, and his mother. He runs his hand through his long, curly hair as he tries desperately to get the picture of him pounding her from behind in the broom closet out of his head.
âIâll take that as a yes.â She whispers as she wraps one of her long arms over his shoulder and begins rubbing his chest with her fingers. She bites down on his ear lobe quickly and giggles quietly as he jumps in both surprise and lust.
âWell, hello beautiful.â Negan Castle, Rickâs Republican counterpart coos, a wide, toothy grin spreading on his face as he turns his attention to her, âGoddamn, you are a vision tonight.â
Michonne presses her chest into Rickâs back as he grabs the wrist slung over his shoulder, âWhy thank you Senator. That is awfully kind.â
âGrimes, you are one lucky sonovabitch.â Negan laments, âSheâs the only reason I remember your name half the time.â
âReally?â Rick squints, âYou donât remember me demolishing your anti-abortion bill nearly six to one?â
Neganâs shit-eating grin grows wider as his dark eyes twinkle under the fluorescent lights at Rickâs quip, âWell, and maybe that.â
Michonne laughs lightly with the rest of the group before she leans into his ear once more, âI want your dick in my mouth.â
Rick inhales sharply as she presses her lips to the side of his neck. He closes his eyes and exhales slowly before turning his face to the side. They donât make eye contact. He stares to the side as she keeps her eyes on the ever-talking Negan as he mumbles, âQuit it.â
She rests her chin on his shoulder and smiles brightly again, âWhy daddy?â She whispers as she turns to him again, taking a deep breath of his expensive cologne.
He squeezes her wrist, âYou know why, damn it. Why do you do this to me, woman?â He whispers harshly back.
She shrugs as she wraps her free arm around his waist, brushing her fingers quickly over the bulge growing in his pants, causing him to jump again, âBecause I like it when you shut me up.â
He groans lowly, reaching behind to pinch her side. She smiles widely at the group of men, removing her grasp from her horny husband, âWell, fellas, I must make my leave. Another glass of champagne and this expensive caviar are calling my name. Iâll see you after your speech darling.â She kisses his cheek sweetly and lightly, to not leave remnants of her lipstick, âMy pussy will be waiting for you too.â She whispers before turning quickly on her feel and sauntering off to find a waiter.
Rick clenches his jaw as he cuts his eyes toward her as she moves off, her hips swaying back and forth seductively as she peeps over her shoulder at him. He stands in awe in of her for a few more minutes as sweat springs up on his forehead. He swallows harshly, unable to reduce to the lump of desire in his throat as his erection presses against the constricting material of his dress pants. He checks his Hublot watch; heâs got thirteen minutes until he takes the stage.
âExcuse me gentlemen.â
He turns quickly and makes a B-line to his wife whoâs joined another group of women to gossip with. He grabs her wrist and pulls her away without so much of a word as he passes by the group, faintly hearing her laugh as she jogs to keep up with him. Thirteen minutes will be plenty of time; for round one anyway.

 Alone on the Hill
Rick and Michonne share a brief, private moment at the Hilltop. Takes place during episode 6x11.
âThereâs a set of shared washrooms just down the hall, but you can hang out here while you wait,â Jesus said as he stopped at an open door that led to a small sitting room just off the main hall. Michonne and Rick stepped into the room and turned back to look at Jesus who leaned against the doorframe with a wily grin on his face. âThe door locksâŠtwice,â he said as he twisted the chain of the second lock in his fingers.
Michonne hung her head low, frustrated that she couldnât go more than a few minutes without being reminded of that morningâs hijinks; and thatâs exactly what her first time with Rick had turned into. It was an intensely private, life-altering experience turned into a very public moment thanks to this guy standing in front of her; and despite that, she had a hard time hating him for it. In fact, she was starting to like him even though heâd broken into their house and brought unwelcome drama into her life.
âAll joking aside, I am sorry about this morning,â he said as the grin dropped from his face. He pushed himself off of the doorframe and straightened up.
âLetâs just let bygones be bygones,â Rick said with a wave of her hand as he glanced down at his best friend and new girlfriend of twelve hours who was obviously rattled by the dayâs events.
âLetâs,â she concurred as she looked up at Jesus. He gave her a nod and turned to leave.
âIâll go grab some washcloths for you two.â
âIâll come with,â Rick volunteered as he stepped toward Jesus. âYou stay. Take it easy,â he said to Michonne, running his hand down her arm as he walked away.
She watched them leave the room and close the door on their way out, then walked toward the bookshelf on the opposite side of the room. It was a small, but stately room, furnished with dark wood and upholstered antique chairs in line with the rest of the main house. She thumbed through the collection of books mindlessly, just giving her hands something to do as she enjoyed the first peaceful moment sheâd aside from the ten minutes sheâd taken to rinse off and change clothes before leaving for Hilltop. Before she could even allow her brain to begin to process everything that had happened, she heard the door open and close behind her, punctuated by the sound of the first lock and then the second. She turned to see Rick drop a stack of towels on the table near the door before walking toward her with a small smile on his face.
âMaggie and Glenn are finishing up, then Daryl and Abe are up next.â
âThat could take a while,â she quipped, thinking of the thin layer of grime that always seemed to cover Darylâs arms and face. Rick cracked a smile at her joke then opened his arms up to her.
âCome here,â he said with a tilt of his head.
She walked into his embrace, exhaling in relief as she rested her head against his chest and felt his arms tighten around her.
âYouâre crazy day has become mineâŠâ she murmured into his skin.
âYeah, it just keeps goinâ,â he said with a light tone before pressing a kiss to the top of her head. âNot all bad, thoughâŠâ
She lifted her head up to look at him, and gave him a smile. She wasnât used to this kind of attention from him: the tenderness in his voice, his unwavering gaze, and the constant need to connect through touches both big and small; but now that she had it, she never wanted it to stop.
âNo,â she said softly, unable to suppress the moony grin that wanted to take over her lips every time she looked at him. âNot at all.â
âI talked to Carl right before we left,â Rick offered, taking advantage of their alone time to catch up.
âWhat did you say?â
âThat I was going to tell him, but that it had just happened and I didnât have the time.â She winced as she  felt a flash of embarrassment for herself and Carl at the implication of Rickâs choice of words. He hadnât just confirmed their new relationship, heâd put a timestamp on the consummation of it, and that was something the poor kid didnât need to know. He must have sensed her discomfort or felt it himself because he chuckled self-consciously before continuing. âAnd I also told him that this is a good thing, that itâs realâŠâ
She smiled shyly, and nodded, agreeing fully with his assessment of what this was. It was real, and it was right. Despite the less than ideal start, that was something she could promise Rick and his kids.
âHow did he take it?â
âWell,â he said as he nodded. âHeâs cool with it.â
âWhat did he say?â
Rick began to chuckle at her question.
âHe literally said Itâs cool. Thatâs it.â
Michonne let out a short laugh. She was relieved that Carl knew and approved, but that wasnât the end of the conversation for her.
âI should talk to him.â
âHeâs OK with it,â Rick assured her as he rubbed his thumbs along the curves of her hips where his hands still rested. âReally.â
âNo, I still do.â
Rick shook his head, understanding that they had their own unique bond that required acknowledgement, as well. This relationship was different, as heâd told his son. Michonne wasnât just some new woman that he needed to force the fit into his and his childrenâs lives; she was already there.
As they stood staring at each other quietly for just a moment, she found her hands making their way up to his cheeks as his hands drew her hips into him. He lowered his head and she raised up on her toes ever so slightly to press her lips to his. They had a new way of filling the silence between them. No more lingering looks or pregnant pauses, if they werenât speaking, there were better things for them to be doing now.
Knock, knock, knock.
Michonneâs shoulders tensed at the sound, and they pulled away from each other, staring at the closed door.
âTime for the Bony Express to make itâs final delivery,â Abeâs familiar voice boomed from behind the door. âYouâre up for the washroom.â
âOk,â Michonne called out flatly before turning back to Rick to finish her response under her breath, ââŠasshole. He better get it out of his system. Iâm giving it a day, then Iâll start striking back.â
Rick couldnât hide his amusement at seeing her fight return. Heâd loved seeing the softer, shy side of Michonne, but he did have a soft spot for this side of her.
âThatâs just Abe beinâ Abe. Itâd take longer than a day for that to changeâŠif ever.â
âThis is trueâŠâ she admitted. âYou ready?â
âYeah.â He turned toward the table to pick up the pile of linens heâd  gotten from Jesus, then pulled the hand towel off the top of the pile to reveal a mason jar lying beneath it. âHere you go,â he said as he passed her both items.
âWhatâs this?â she asked as she took them. She held the half-full jar in her hand, examining the viscous, off-white substance that coated the sides of the glass.
âApparently itâs what passes for toothpaste these days. Baking soda, water, and mint extract.â
Her eyes widened at the mention of toothpaste, and she looked up from the jar to see the proud smirk on Rickâs face.
âWhere did you get this?â
âI shook Jesus down for some. It was his personal supply, but now itâs yours. I figured he owed us after all the trouble he causedâŠnow donât go crazy with that, you need to make it last,â he warned.
She clutched the jar to her chest, and playfully swatted him on his left thigh with the hand towel in her other hand, but he caught it and pulled in from her grip causing her to giggle at his teasing. She tilted her head and smiled at him.
âThank you,â she said genuinely touched by the gesture.
 âOf course.â
She stepped in to give him another kiss, before they were rudely interrupted once again.
âGiddy up, you two! We ainât got all day,â the ginger called out along with the sharp rap of his knuckles against the door.
She swiftly stepped over to the door, unlatching the chain, and undoing the lock before swinging it wide open to reveal Abe standing there with his fist raised, about to knock again. She stood, squared off in front of him, right eyebrow arched, and eyes staring a hole into his face. The imposing man chuckled, then took a step back.
âI, uhâŠI wasnât sure ya heard me,â he stammered. âYouâre up.â
âRight,â she said icily as she walked past him.
Rick followed behind her, and caught Abrahamâs questioning eyes. He just shrugged at his friend with a tickled look, and made his way to the washroom.

Rickâs brow furrowed as he cluelessly browsed through the various music books on display. The store was empty except for various guitars and pianos meticulously displayed throughout the showroom. Heâd made it before closing time but regretted not asking Carl for specifics before agreeing to buy him a new music book.
He sighed tiredly, imagining the inevitable disappointed looks heâd receive from both his son and ex-wife. He winced at the unenticing prospect when a soft strumming caught his attention.
The intricate chord progression tugged at his soul, wrapping around his heart triggering something tender, something long-forgotten.
He tilted his head and shut his eyes, concentrating on the music. A distant memory flooded his mind. It was him as a small boy, sitting on his living room floor watching his mother fold and pile clean linens in a large wicker basket as she softly hummed the same haunting tune with a gentle smile on her face. The memory took his breath away, sending a prickling sensation to his eyes. He hadnât thought of her in years.
His eyelashes fluttered as the humming turned into words. The calming, sweet voice drew him from behind the obstructing bookshelf.
She sat with a beautiful, sleek guitar upon her lap, its pearly white, tuning pegs contrasting against the deep ebony of the instrument. Her dreads covered half her stunning features, draping themselves along the top of the guitar. He cautiously approached her gently swaying form. She didnât notice. Her eyes were closed as if blissfully lost in the song her fingers were expertly playing, her full lips wistfully singing about time and love.
Rickâs lips parted as he gaped at her. She was gorgeous, exquisite, entrancing. He was so overwhelmed by her beauty, he didnât register when she stopped playing and asked him a question.
He swallowed thickly before he blinked out of his stupor and gruffly replied with an enchanting, âWhat?â
An admonishing smile lit up her face as she looked up at him skeptically. âCan I help you?â she repeated, eyeing him carefully, her name tag peeking over the curved body of the guitar.
Michonne.
Her name swirled around his head like a fine wine in a crystal glass. Michonne. He gazed at her, entirely mesmerized by this unassuming, gifted woman before him.
How could he tell her he had no idea why he was there and that he couldnât remember for the life of him how to form coherent words? How could he tell her she had stolen his heart? How could he tell her that a divorced father of one whoâd given up on the idea of soulmates had just fallen head over heels in love with an innocent, music shop girl with just one song?
Sheâd already done so much yet, the question remained: could she help him?
A smile tugged at his lips as he slowly nodded and cleared his throat, âY-yeah, yeah, I think you can.â
Authorâs Note: The musician in me couldnât pass up the opportunity to connect pegs to music, specifically Jim Croceâs âTime in a Bottleâ. It was just the perfect opportunity for a love-at-first-sight type of fic. Thanks Richonne Just Desserts for the opportunity to write this!!!

Rick entered their home through the garage and made a beeline to the kitchen, gingerly placing the grocery bags down on the counter. Trying to postpone the inevitable comments that were about to come his way, he made it a point to unload the bags as quietly as possible.
âHi, honey,â Michonne called out from her reading chair, too engrossed in her novel to look up. She was enjoying this lazy Saturday afternoon - a departure from the normal hustle and bustle of errands and activities - thanks to her husbandâs insistence that she take some much needed time for herself.
âHey,â was his curt reply.
Hearing him shuffle back and forth with the groceries, she got up and strolled over to the kitchen to help.
âDid you get bacon and eggs for breakfast tomorr-Oh!â Michonne recoiled in surprise, having caught sight of Rick as she rounded the corner.
âBefore you say anything,â Rick pleaded, holding out his hand as if attempting to calm a wild stallion, âJoe wasnât there today. This is not what I asked for.â
Michonne squinted, hoping that her eyes just needed some adjusting after wearing her reading glasses, but much to her dismay, that didnât seem to help.
âThere was a new stylist there todayâŠJessie,â he sighed, the bitter taste of regret on his lips as he uttered her name. âLetâs just say she was a little too enthusiastic with the scissors.â
âA little?â
âI thought Iâd surprise you with a nice trim,â he grimaced, gripping the back of his newly exposed neck for effect, âbut this isnât what I had in mind.â
Michonne sauntered over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist to pull him in close. She couldnât help but notice how adorably hot he was when flustered, despite the criminal removal of those luscious curls of his.
Rick grinned playfully as Michonne undid the top few buttons of his plaid shirt to inspect his chest, running her fingers up and down as if counting every hair. She applied the same technique to his face before finding her way to his exposed neck, her hands devoid of the usual pleasure that awaited them there.
âGlad to see that this Jessie woman showed some restraint,â she smirked, caressing his perfectly trimmed beard for emphasis, âBut if she ever touches your curls again, Iâll be doing some cutting of my own.â
âNo need to worry,â he assured her, âThatâs the last time that woman gets anywhere near me.â
âDamn right,â she nodded emphatically before a sly grin crept up. âBut, youâre going to have to make it up to me somehow.â
âWell I did get you one of those chocolate muffins from The Red Door Bakery that you love so much.â
âUh huh. Keep talking.â
âAnd the kids are out of the house for at least another couple hours,â he murmured, hooking his finger through one belt loop of her jeans to reel her in closer.
âThey are, arenât they?â she smiled.
âThey areâŠâ

âLook at those two,â Eric whispered.
Aaron looked ahead at the two leaders of Alexandria walking side by side, he with a rifle strapped across his back and she with her katana, leading their group through the woods to find this new Oceanside community Tara had told them about.
âWhat about them?â he whispered back seeing nothing of note.
âAll matching in their grey and black,â Eric pointed out. âIt wouldnât be so cute if it was anyone else but them.â
âOh, theyâve been doing that forever,â Aaron scoffed.
âThose awful uniforms Deanna, god rest her soul,â Eric added as he looked skyward, âmade them wear shouldnât be held against them.â
âNo, when we first found them out on the road. They had that burnt sienna and brown thing going on, and we thought they were together then, remember?â
âOh, youâre right,â Eric exclaimed in a hushed voice. âWe were convinced they were a couple until that whole thing with Jesââ
âThey wore brown and white for a while, too.â
Aaron and Eric looked back to see that the coupleâs son had been right behind them this whole time, and clearly privy to their conversation.
âCarl,â Aaron said, completely mortified. âIâm sorry, I didnât realize you were there.â
âItâs cool,â he shrugged. âYou wanna see something funny?â
The two men looked at each other, unsure of what to say, then back at the kid.
âUh, sure,â Eric stammered.
Carl motioned for them to keep their eyes on his father and Michonne, and once they were, he put his plan in motion.
âUp ahead on your left,â he yelled.
In perfect unison, Rick and Michonneâs heads turned to the left as their right hands reached behind them to brace their weapons while angling their bodies in the direction of the oncoming danger. As they stood their, fully alert and ready to attack, Aaron and Eric glanced back at Carl he was looking quite proud of himself.
âWhat is it?â Rick called back after a few seconds with no action.
âSorry, must have been a squirrel or something,â he apologized, trying to keep from cracking up.
Rick and Michonne eased their stances and dropped their hands from their weapons before turning forward again to continue on their path without missing a beat. All of this completely in sync, of course.
Aaron and Eric looked back at Carl with amazement and upon seeing his smirk, they couldnât stifle their laughter. Rick and Michonne turned to look at the sound of snickering behind them.
âWhatâs so funny?â Michonne asked.
Aaron coughed to cover his laugh then cleared his throat. âUm, nothing,â he assured them.
They both squinted their eyes, disbelieving of the crew cutting up behind them, then exchanged a look before returning their attention to the path ahead.
âOK, clearly we have some work to do,â Eric whispered to his husband as he nodded toward the power couple to which Aaron nodded.

Prompt: Wake Up Kiss
Blood painted a tree with a loud splash as Rickâs hatchet sliced through the head of the closest one. He spun on his heel, arm raised, ready for the two over his shoulder. He grabbed the first by the neck, holding it just inches from his face, the growls and spit filling his ears while his blade disabled the other. He kicked the first backwards, following it on unsteady steps, until he fell to his knees above it. With one more swing it was done.
âMichonne!â he yelled, wiping blood from his forehead. His blood, their blood; he wasnât sure.
Sweat flew off his brow as his head whipped right, then left, searching. He shoved off of the corpse beneath him, wrapping his hand around the handle of his weapon, reclaiming it from the skull it had just broken. He scanned the top of the hill behind him, where he last saw her, then the thick tree line on either side of the road. Silence. No moans seeping from undead mouths, and no sharp whistle of wind from her blade slicing through the air. He took off running up the incline to where she last stood. âMichonne!â
The slope was steep and the earth was soft from a recent rain. Reddish brown mud slid beneath his boots and he tripped, staining the knees of his jeans with soil and blood. He scrambled to his feet and faced his destination again, finally spotting her standing at the crest. âHey!â he hollered, relieved. âYou ok?â
She didnât answer, she just stared at him with the most vibrant smile heâd ever seen. He matched her stare, eyes combing her, looking her over. She looked fine. She was fine.
He started his ascent again, cautiously stepping on the slippery terrain, but he couldnât close the distance. He was climbing, but she was no closer than before. He panicked, starting to run again, and again he fell. âMichonne!â
She shook her head, her beautiful smile never wavering. Her brown eyes beckoned, but he couldnât get his feet underneath him, couldnât get a grip on the earth. As he kicked backwards, desperately searching for traction, he saw one. âBehind you!â he yelled, but she didnât turn. She kept her eyes on him, grinning. Another came out of the trees, arms outstretched, heading right for her.
âNo!â he cried, but his screams didnât stir her, she just held his gaze. âMichonne!â
âRick,â she whispered into his ear, stroking his damp chest. His heart beat wildly beneath her hand and pain rolled over his face like a wave.
âRick.â Her hands moved to his biceps, pinning his arms as she moved above him. She pressed her mouth to his, brushing against his lips as she spoke. âBaby, wake up.â
His eyes flew open, fear still swimming in them as he tried to focus on her face. His breath was ragged and his hand clutched the back of her neck, pulling her to his chest. Â âMichonne.â
âItâs ok. Youâre awake. Iâm here.â

Prompt(s) used: Hand Kiss
It had been a long day, and an absolutely crazy one at that. But it had been one of the best days heâd had in a long time, maybe even ever. Physically drained, emotionally and sexually satedâŠhe hadnât gone to bed with a tired body, clear mind, and full heart in years. It had all the makings for a sound nightâs sleep, yet he still found himself drifting in and out of it.
Sometimes it was the sensation of her knee grazing parts of him that had been ignored for far too long as she shifted in her sleep that would rouse him; other times he would simply find his eyes open for no reason at all. What made this different from every other sleepless night, however, was that she was right there next to him. The moments of wake were fleeting, just a few minutes at most before he would fall back asleep, and they were peaceful, almost like a dream.
Her face was the first thing he would see, eyes closed with no tension in her brow and still a trace of that shy smile he had seen throughout their evening of firsts. And then his eyes would travel down the slope of her back and up the rise of her rear where his hand had been planted for hours providing tangible proof that this was real, but also for the simple fact that he loved the feel of it just like he loved the feel of her smooth legs entwined with his beneath the sheets.
Once he reached the tip of her toes his eyes would travel back up the length of her body and landed on her hand, anchored on his chest, warm and steadying. He would lift her hand to his lips and brush them lightly against her knuckles and place it right back where it belonged. His heart was entirely hers, from now until the end of his days.

Prompt: Talking Kiss
âDonât. Ever. Do. That. Again.â She punctuated every word with a kiss, her lips brushing over his skin, her hands frantically exploring his body. She smoothed her palms over his limbs, taking stock. He was filthy, covered in grime and sweat, but otherwise unharmed. Relief flooded her.
âI didnât do it on purpose,â he repeated his argument, his fingers digging into her waist, his face pressed flush to her. His heart was pounding against her chest, the adrenaline working its way out of his system.
Michonne clutched at him, holding him tightly, still shaking. Her heart had dropped the moment sheâd seen him fall from the ladder leaning against the wall, panic searing through her. âWait for me next time,â she instructed against his cheek. She began to kiss his face again in earnest, relieved to find him muddy, but unbroken.Â
Rickâs arms wound around her, pulling her into his lap. She could feel their group watching them, dozens of pairs of eyes observing her coming undone. It didnât matter. Rick caught her mouth with his own, drinking from her as though they were in the privacy of their home and not a puddle of mud just inside the perimeter.
âIt wonât happen again,â he promised, lifting them both shakily to their feet.
Michonne braced him, quickly getting her shoulder beneath him. âWeâre going home now,â she announced.
âWeâll finish up here,â Aaron paused, hammer in hand, watching them limp away.
She nodded, helping Rick back towards the house. He came willingly, wincing just the slightest.
âHey,â he paused them just out of eyesight of the group, maneuvering to face her. Michonne looked at him.
âWhat is it?â she asked, fearing he actually was hurt.
Rick leaned forward, drawing his face to hers. The feeling of his lips on her own chased away the last remnants of her fear.
âThank you,â he whispered against her mouth.
âYouâre welcome,â she closed the distance between them, wrapping her arms around his neck.
A/N: Thanks for reading! We all know Michonne doesnât like it when Rick gets hurt. Why is it that men never wait for someone to hold the ladder? đ

Prompt:Â Eyelid kiss
Rick was awakened by the gentle movement of Michonne sleeping beside him, feeling the bed shift as she nestled closer towards him. He opened his eyes and was greeted by her beautiful face, her skin practically glowing underneath the soft sunlight peeking through the curtains of the window. She was sleeping a few inches away from him lying on her side, so close he could feel her breath on his face.
She had been through so much. After spending a couple of days in the infirmary to heal from her injuries, she was finally back home, safe in his arms and their bedroom. The swelling in her face had gone down and the dried blood had been washed away. The only thing that remained were the aches and pain the bruises around her eyes.
He reached out to trace his finger along one of the bruises. Anger boiled in the pit of his stomach as he thought of how Jadisâ betrayal led to this. He had almost lost Michonne. He had assured her days ago that if something were to happen, they both would have to go on and to help the communities. But seeing her against that wall after the fight with the saviors and scavengers, fighting for her life and the future of the communities, he realized that he couldnât do it. He couldnât lose her now that he had her.
She stirred at his touch and took one long deep breath before resuming her steady flow of breathing, her body still refusing to wake up just yet. He gently brushed a loc out of her face, his fingers lingering against her smooth skin. Having her here next to him was everything and he vowed to keep her in that rightful place to be his partner. His confidant. His love. She wasnât going anywhere.
He pulled himself in closer to her, wrapping his arm around her protectively. He kissed her bruises. She was still beautiful through her battle scars. The last kiss he placed upon her was on her eyelid, a sign of protection and affection. He would do whatever it took to keep her safe. He was never going to let her go.

Prompt used: Yellow
She was a vision in yellow.
Rick could barely keep his eyes off of the unfamiliar yet angelic face of the woman standing on the other side of the room. He had spotted her as soon as he had walked into the small, intimate gathering just an hour earlier and it was like she was the only one in the room. She was talking with a friend, her laughter filling the spacious room and her smile brightening his day like the stars lit up the night sky. Her sleeveless yellow dress hugged her body perfectly. Her long dark locs were pulled back away from her face with a yellow headband, showing off of her beautiful features. Â
He did not know her, but he made it his goal tonight to get to know her.
Yet, he couldnât move his feet. He stood planted in his spot across from his friend, Glenn, who was babbling away about his upcoming nuptials to his soon to be wife, Maggie.
âRick?â Glenn waved his hand in front of his Rickâs face. âHey, man, you in there?â
Rick snapped back to reality, his eyes peeling away from the ethereal beauty and to his friendâs mischievous smirk. âWhat? Yeah, Iâm fine. What were you saying?â
âI was saying that youâll be paired with Michonne tomorrow during the ceremony,â Glenn said, nodding his head towards the woman. âSheâs a friend of Maggieâs. New to the town. I think youâll like her.â
âMichonne,â Rick repeated lightly. It was different, but still beautiful nonetheless.
As if she had heard him say her name, her gaze drifted to him and their eyes locked. Her lips were still curved into a small smile and her long, delicate fingers were wrapped around the champagne flute in her hand. Her eyes scanned his body, settling on his lips for a few seconds before she looked up back at his eyes. With a coy look on her face, she nodded towards the porch.
Rick watched as she set her drink onto a nearby end table and escaped through the double doors that led to the porch. He excused himself from Glenn, doing the same and following her.
He found her standing against the railing, her back towards him as she looked up at the tiny dots of stars. He slowly made his way towards the spot beside her. He placed his hand on the railing, only inches away from hers and it took everything in him not to touch her.
âWe donât see the stars in the city,â she said softly, her eyes still looking upward. âItâs beautiful out here. Quiet and calming.â
âIâm pretty sure theyâre shining for you,â Rick said, his voice drawling out more than usual.
She looked over at him then, a hint of surprise and curiosity filling her features. She smiled, sending chills down his spine for the fiftieth time that evening, his own smile mirroring hers.
Remembering his goal for the night, he held out his hand. âIâm Rick Grimes. You must be Michonne.â
She accepted, the smile never leaving her lips. âNice to meet you, Rick.â

Prompt(s) used: Not Enough
âWait.â
Oh God. We havenât been doing this long enough for me to tell if heâs doing this on purpose or not, although Iâm leaning towards the former with each passing day. That smile heâs giving me, the voice going lower than low, the way heâs oh so casually had his arm propped on his bent knee with a beer bottle dangling from his bandaged hand as if heâs posing for a picture all night, the way Iâm pretty sure he just proposed to me without uttering the standard will you marry me? What, Rick? What are you gonna lay on me now?
âIâve been, um, Iâve been waiting to show you this oneâŠâ
A dramatic pause and another grin as he holds that plastic bag in his hand. Heâs too damn cuteâŠ
âItâs, um, chili and mac and cheese together. Come on.â
âŠand he knows it. Thereâs no doubt in my mind now. Son of a bitch. At least I know what Iâm dealing with. Heâs using a late night confession about my love for boxed mac and cheese against me.
Weâre leaders of a community, no, communities now, on the brink of warâŠparents to his childrenâŠtwo grown people who need to do what they do best and shut down their hearts and desires again so they can get back to workâŠbut itâs not as easy as it used to be. Itâs not that I donât want to stay, but we really need to get back, so I give him the lookâŠbut not before I snatch that bag right out of his hands and claim it as my own.
âWhat?â
âYou really think this is enough to make me stay?â He gives me an innocent shrug. âItâs not,â I assure him.
âYou didnât let me finishâŠâ
Heâs moved onto his knees and is edging around our âdinner table,â encroaching on my space now.
âNo take-backs.â I clutch the bag of chili mac tightly in my arms as I inch away from him, but heâs moving right along with me, one hand planted to the floor to support him and the other brushing my hair away from my shoulder before it comes to rest on my cheek..
âIâm not. Youâre gonna wanna save this for later anyway.â
âAm I?â I ask, clutching the bag tighter as I try to lean back to get away from him only to feel the cool metal bar of a nearby cot stopping me.
âYeah, I think soâŠâ
Those were his final words before his lips captured mine, keeping me from uttering another protest. We only have one more night, so I just let go.

Prompt: Blanket
âRick? What are you doing?â
I open my eyes at the sound of her sleepy voice and smile at the grey plastic bag staring back up at me from the floor beside our bed for the night. I canât help myselfâŠ
âDonât worry, Iâm not eatinâ the your chili-mac.â
âPlease.â She scoffs like sheâs above that. âProof?â
âGod damn.â I groan despite smiling like a damn fool. She can make me laugh like no one else. Shane fancied himself a comedian, but I was usually laughing out of politeness while I cringed inwardly at his jokes. Lori would crack corny jokes from time to time which was cute, could make me chuckle. But Michonne? Sheâs just damn funny. I pick up her prized possession and turn to show it to her. âSee?â
âJust making sureâŠI know you must have worked up an appetite, butâŠâ
âBut what?â I tease back, liking this middle of the night banter much more than the thoughts have been keeping me up.
âBut really, RickâŠâ Her face grew serious as she rolled completed onto her side and reached for my hand. âWhy are you up?â
I throw a smile her way to deflect, but sheâs giving me that look. I know sheâs not buying it, but I canât tell her why.
âI was fixinâ to go find another blanket since somebody stole all the covers,â I say as I tug on the one corner of the blue blanket that isnât tucked under her. âJust stopped to stretch first.â
âSorryâŠyou could have woken me.â
And now Iâm givinâ her the look. When sheâs out, sheâs out cold, and she knows itâs the truth.
âOr just steal them backâŠâ she offers sheepishly.
âFrom you?â I can see the silver blade of her ever-present katana reflecting the just moonlight behind her. âNah, thatâs not a chance Iâm willinâ to take.â
She rolls her eyes and chuckles at me then starts to unravel herself from the blanket.
âCome here, you.â
She lifts the blanket and invites me in with a nod of her head and I slide in next to her as she drapes us with the blanket then moves her hand across my cheek and into my hair, massaging her fingertips over my scalp as she combs my curls between her fingers. I swear, I could lay here like this all dayâŠ
âBetter?â
âBetter,â I nod.
âSee? All you had to do was ask.â
âIs that right?â
âThatâs right,â she whispers solemnly.
âSo how about stayinâ another day then?â
âRickâŠâ she chides.
âI know, I know. We should get backâŠâ
âBut we still have tonight,â she says hopefully as she inches closer to me.
A few weeks, a few days, one more nightâŠthere could never be enough time with my love, butâŠ
âIâll take it, then.â
