People need to understand that there is a distinction between being able to cook and liking to cook.
I am capable of preparing food. I can follow recipes. I can come up with my own concoctions of reasonable palatability. I can even sometimes make it look halfway presentable.
HOWEVER, I do not typically like preparing food. I don't like cutting and chopping up ingredients. I don't like measuring them out. I don't like dealing with the stove or the oven. I don't like cleaning up the monstrous mess that inevitably happens afterwards. I also don't like spending 30–75 minutes making something that I will be done eating before the end of an anime's opening credits.
Sometimes, all of that can be interesting and exciting, but on a day-to-day basis, I do not like spending my time cooking. As a result, I tend to prepare things that are low-effort and "boring," because I don't want my life to revolve around food.
