the thing about eiffel is that a lot of bad things happen to him and there's a lot to feel sorry for him about, but he also can't resist exploiting his own misfortune to garner sympathy. he's aware of that, even; his nightmare death spider incident shook him up so badly that he was surprised he couldn't think of a way to take advantage of it yet. he's out there fake coughing and going ohhh i'm sooo sick as an excuse while he's still supposed to be on bedrest from his lungs collapsing. all of which is to say, sure, for a while post-canon minkowski is going to try to be patient and lenient and considerate about the situation. but, whether he gets his memory back or not (and i personally believe he will, eventually, though that's another topic), it's quickly going to get to a point where eiffel is unemployed and living on minkowski's couch and she goes, doug, did you maybe forget to take out the trash again? and he's like, gee, you know, that's actually a really sensitive subject for me... and she wants to strangle him to death.

my brother kept bringing up "the gay relationship with the protagonist" in w359 and i asked what he meant because the protagonist isn't gay and he said "he kissed someone, right? the scientist guy? aren't they together" and i almost screamed "WHAT????" because i realized he was talking about hilbert and eiffel and truly believes they were together in a romantic and maybe sexual manner
