Evangelical protestants who believe that any religious group that disagrees with them is a cult vs. english studies majors who believe that all religions are cults. the winner of the fight gets to beat me to death while I try to explain why we don’t use that term in religious studies but still recognize that the cultural connotations of referring to high control religious groups as cults can still be helpful for some people to express their experiences. Nobody wins here, but I certainly lose.
