He nodded. The baby was fine. Maggie would be fine. That was what Jesus heard, despite Alex being realistic about what needed to happen. She would be fine, so would the baby. These people needed a break, and he didn’t think it had been openly put on this woman, and her unborn child– but the way everyone kept tossing glances over at the medical tent, and waited around for answers. Well, it was clear it was on them.
“That’s good,” Paul said, and after a moments hesitation he reached up placing his hand on Alex’s back, between his shoulder-blades. “You’ve done a lot tonight– Carson too. We couldn’t do it without you.”
He dropped his hand only a moment later, the relationship between the two men was confused enough without him adding to it. Paul realized a while ago it was easier to just be alone in this. “No,” He said looking over at Alex, “I don’t really know her that well. We’ve talked a few times, but I thought… I’d give her space. She’d probably rather see her husband, or Rick, or… anyone else.”
The last part came out with a bit of a laugh and he rolled his eyes, “I’ll see how things are in a couple hours. If they stay.”
Alex lowered his head slightly and gave a weak smile when Jesus said he'd done a lot tonight. Maybe. He just wished they could have done more to prevent anyone else dying. He could remember it happening here at the Hilltop, those disgusting people coming in and killing a kid-- hardly even sixteen years old.
"I do what I have to," the man said.
He turned his eyes towards Paul when he started talking about how he didn't really know Maggie, and raised his eyebrows, "maybe she would, I can't say I know her any better than you do. But if you're going around handing out bottles of water, one might go a long way over there in the medical tent," he pointed out. Honestly Alex doubted most people were as mad at Jesus as he liked to think they were, maybe some, but most of these people were smart enough to realize this wasn't his, or the Hilltops fault.
It was Negan's fault, and it would have happened either way. These people were sensible enough to see that, right?
"I don't have the last say, but Maggie is absolutely staying here until her and the baby are better, her husband too I'm assuming. So, you'll have time. But don't keep putting it off."
