He was meant to know these people right? They said he worked here, that he had come here to live and work but honestly he couldn’t quite see it. How? What had happened that had lead him here? There was dried blood down the side of his face, he couldn’t make out everything people were saying but they thought he’d hit his head, retrograde amnesia, the loss of memory following an injury or disease. He knew the term from somewhere, he must have read it somewhere…but he couldn’t remember where either.

Instead he was just sat there, in silence, stunned a little as it felt like the rest of the universe revolved around him and he was stuck here. Just. Stuck. It was a strange position to be in, like everyone expected to know something things, to find his way around, to have conversations and he had just sat there. Quiet and still, like if he waited long enough it was all coming to come flooding back to him.

She focuses on quickly giving the general her initial report - possible retrograde amnesia with an unknown prognosis at this point - but she can feel Jonas watching the small group. Colonel O’Neill, Sam, and Teal’c are next to the Texan and all four wear matching expressions of bemusement at the circumstances surrounding Jonas’s injury; O’Neill says they were walking along a gravel road on PX4-294 and Jonas hit the ground without warning. They dragged him back through the ‘gate and brought him to the infirmary immediately but the damage was done and Janet’s at a loss as to how to help the Kelownan.

When she’s done rushing through briefing the general, she shoos everyone but her staff out of the infirmary and turns her focus back to her patient. Jonas is sitting quietly on the bed and it strikes Janet that this is one of the first times she’s ever seen her friend without a smile on his face and it makes her incredibly sad. She’s well practiced at putting a smile on, though, so she draws on her experience and gives Jonas a smile as she approaches the bed again.

“Hi there,” she says pleasantly, her eyes tracking over his face for any hint of recognition. “Do you know where you are?”

He's juuuuuust going to pull her into a hug that's a lot tighter than it should be. Today's a very, very tough day whether or not she's here and he has no intention of letting her out of his sight.

Janet knows what’s on her father’s mind; she’d been curious just after her arrival in this reality a year ago and snuck a peek at her counterpart’s file so she’s aware that her father is thinking of the other Janet, the first in this reality. She feels a keen sense of loss herself though there’s a thread of gratitude - as selfish as that thought makes her feel - because without the first Janet’s death, she wouldn’t be here today. So she slips her arms around her father’s waist and hugs back, her grip just as tight as his.
