Joseph Greenstein was a Jewish strongman known as “the Mighty Atom” (he was 5'4", 140 lbs).  In 1939, he was walking home in Manhattan and saw a sign that read “NO DOGS OR JEWS ALLOWED!” A Nazi Bund meeting was happening upstairs.  Greenstein went across the street to a hardware store where he rented an 18-foot ladder and purchased a Louisville slugger baseball bat He climbed up the ladder, tore the sign down, and tossed it into the gutter.  The entire Bund assembly came charging down the stairs into the street The Mighty Atom got a black eye, but sent eighteen American Nazis to the hospital.  Said Greenstein afterwards, “it wasn’t a fight, it was a pleasure” Greenstein was arrested but at his trial the judge couldn’t believe such a small man could cause such damage. Judge: “You mean this little man … did that … to all of them?” Witness: “Yes, Your Honor, them that ain’t still in the hospital.” Judge: “Mr. Greenstein, these are serious charges. Do you have anything to say?” “Yessir, Judge. Every time I swung the bat it was a home run!” Judge: “NOT GUILTY! CASE DISMISSED!” The judge banged his gavel.
