So someone asked me for Snape headcanons regarding food/drinks and oh boi is it even more complex than I originaly thought haha

Like I need to do some research on what he might have eaten as a child before he went to Hogwarts to really be able to construct a logic around his life's eating habit. So if anyone knows where to find resources about the poor working-class eating habits in 1960 in (central?) Great Britain... I'm interested.

All of that for a man who's skin and bones hahaha

Or I can get myself out of this and just say : he never eats. He just drinks potion supplements thrice a day and that's it. He runs on vitamins, coffee and spite.

I should preface this by saying I'm Canadian, BUT I researched the question of what young Severus would have eaten at length a few months ago (for a piece of dialogue in a single scene in my wip because I get silly about accuracy of tiny details for some reason!). There's some good info in the documentaries about 60s/70s British slums I made a post about ages ago--particularly check out the documentary on Nottingham slums, which has a section of a woman talking about how she manages to feed her four-person family on 4 pounds a week.

Obviously, there's regional variations, but basically from what I could find, young Severus would have probably eaten homemade food made with cheap staples like potatoes, beans, greens, carrots, eggs, etc. A cheap cut of meat once a week that they'd stretch into multiple meals, sausages, or tinned meat. White bread--the cheapest sort that tastes like air. Fish and chips. End of the week you're getting beans on toast, margarine on toast, jam on toast, sometimes for multiple meals--or you just went hungry. If there were leftovers, you used them for the next meal. You never wasted food. No snacks between meals.

Some primary schools in the 60s had "school dinners" (lunch--often pies, eg shepherds pie, etc, and pudding), but this apparently wasn't common in slum areas due to there being too many kids. If Severus did go to Muggle primary and got school dinners, it was likely often his only meal those days.

Something I found interesting was that the two things I would consider the cheapest staple meals nowadays, pasta/noodles and rice, were not common when/where Severus was growing up.

Modern day muggle marauders and they are all roadmen,remus is less roadman-ish. Siruis and james moan in class randomly, remus always at homework club..Peter always with the Radnor 24/7.- James and siruis are def football guys. On the school team.

Lily got her skirt up all the time and was one of the chill nice y7s but honestly became a bit more chavvy after severus left.

Severus is that one kid who's clearly special needs,gets free school meals but won't tell anyone..takes the bus,always has his uniform on until it falls apart- and the deatheaters are random y11s and stuff who are actual roadmen who shoplift but they parents are rich so they dont get into trouble..they hang with snape cuz he's street smart
