Avatar Joo Dee
I know that "Avatar: Seven Havens" makes this basically impossible, but here's a half-baked idea: A post-Korra Earth Avatar who's captured as a child and brainwashed into becoming a Joo Dee, probably by the Dai Li or an Earth Empire remnant.
The White Lotus and the Dai Li are engaged in a covert war over control of the Avatar.
While most Joo Dees are brainwashed as adults and can be returned to their old lives, Avatar Joo Dee basically had no life before then. "Joo Dee" is her only name.
The world would be inspired by Deng-era China, a time of relative peace, prosperity, and stability but with an undercurrent of darkness and authoritarianism. There's a conflict between King Wu and his democratic reforms and more conservative monarchist or fascist factions. And now they have control of one of the most powerful benders in the world.

I’ve watched the movie in full and before I give my review of it I’d like to just say that Milly Alcock gave a wonderful performance and this has nothing to do with her and with that being said let’s continue.
So there are a couple things that were off about the movie from the start to me where they didn’t follow the original plot of the comics and I’d like to start off with the most important to me, Krem’s introduction. In the comics Krem is introduced as this man who approaches Ruthye’s family supposedly looking for a place to stay, and so he stays with them, eats with them, and even talks as well for the night. All of that to the very next day kill Ruthye’s father and leave the sword in his chest. He didn’t kill her entire family, just her father.
So taking this into account and then watching the movie I was very confused at to why they change that. Krem comes in with a team he’s already apart of in the middle of the night, he kills Ruthye’s entire family (which is narrowed down to three people instead of eight might I add), and for soe reason the sword he leaves isn’t his but Ruthye’s father’s. So already I had my doubts but I still had hope dor this movie because I thought maybe this was just one change and it won’t get me down right? Apparently I needed to shut my mouth because the next thing they did confused me as well.
Now before we get into this let’s just take into account who Ruthye is as a character. Ruthye is direct and straightforward with people, she doesnt think much of killing, and most of all she’s smart, she’s smart in the way a child is smart yes but nonetheless; smart. So with that in mind instead of tracking down someone individually and seeking them out like she did in the comics she announces her offer to an entire bar of people. I thought that also didn’t feel right and yet again I wasn’t wrong to feel like that. I once again thought “it’s just a small detail we can still salvage this!”. I was stupid.
The thing that made the LEAST amount of sense to me that I just said okay I’m done I give up was when they decided to make Kara be born AFTER planet krypton was destroyed and have her grow up on the floating piece of rock…why was Kara born AFTER krypton was destroyed when that’s literally the CORE of her character? Kara speaks of krypton so poetically and filled with love for the mundane everyday life she had as a girl growing up on the planet. She talks of the tree she would stare at in the window, she talks of her father burning food accidentally and them having a little secret between the two of them, she talks of going to school there everyday; she speaks so much of her home on the planet of krypton and that makes it more impactful when it eventually does blow up and the last remaining people are left adrift in a a floating piece of the planet until eventually it’s just her left after her father sends her away in the pod. I don’t understand taking away that aspect of her character when it is the very reason she continues to exist she carries memories of a dead civilization—an entire planet that she can never go back to even though she misses it so much it kills her every moment she breathes. Why would you change that when it’s something that not even injustice of all things changed? Why is her mother the one looking at the tree and not her?!
Why was lobo there?! The story was fine without him so yet again I don’t understand whyyyyy. If you were gonna change so much you could’ve at least had Ruthye save Kara and not Lobo. I mean what’s the point? I already found it weird when they marketed him so much more than supergirl in her OWN MOVIE.
The story didn’t feel as fleshed out as it did before since it was only in the span of three days vs several months in space and find sure you could argue that since it’s a movie there’s leeway well okay but there have been longer movies than 1 hour and 41 minutes. Also little thing Ruthye’s family is more old fashioned in the comics so why would they have technology like that? Is that too nitpicky? Idk anymore.
I have some other things but those are the main concerns. Now to make up for that I’d like to share something’s I DID like from the movie. I liked the cinematography it was very nice to look at to me, I also liked the action scenes which were so visually appealing to me I wish I watched it in theaters, next thing I did like Kara killing Krem in the end even if I would’ve preferred it be some formula of this and the comic plot mixed together to have Ruthye kill him but hey I really liked her killing a human trafficker!
One more thing I really really really loved was the line “you’re not always nice, but you’re kind.” Probably my favorite line the whole movie actually. It feels like the movie really connected with the comic on that especially and with me. I can’t always be nice, im a person who’s been through too much for that; but I can always choose to be kind despite it. And Kara does too. I also feel like it’s such an important message for women as a whole y’know? Getting told you’re being a bitch even if you’re having what could be the worst day of your life and yet you have to smile and grit your teeth because you simply have to apparently. Well that’s not how women work because women are people. And people go through shit and they aren’t always the best at managing their emotions let alone other peoples, so it was really touching to hear that.
Overall I’m so sad because it could’ve been so much better but I’ll always hold it in my heart anyways and if it ever gets put on dvd I’ll buy it.
