im not seeing people talk about the fact that ilya has a mole somewhat around his mouth (more so on his jawline/cheek) and that the dog has a spot somewhat around its mouth
shane x ilya: fast car by tracy chapman
who are we if not a product of those around us?
Porch Light / Noah Kahan
Ok I’m actually starting to get a little defensive of Ilya because why am I seeing more and more characterization of him as messy, undisciplined, irresponsible, etc.
Like yes, he’s more carefree than Shane, but he’s also one of the best hockey players in the world and you don’t get there without an insane amount of discipline, and even beyond that we literally see him acting as a caretaker for his father, managing money for his brother, arranging his father’s funeral and getting it done quickly and efficiently, none of that is the behavior of someone who’s never used a calendar…
Wait wait wait can I?? Can I add?????
I think what’s delicious about Ilya is his self worth related to these concepts. He thinks he’s lazy, messy, undisciplined. You listen, you don’t soeak. Yes. You need a haircut. Yes, Father. The problem is leadership. Yes, nod, yes. But repeatedly we are shown that Ilya is good. He’s an attentive lover, he’s a good friend. He tries to be a good son to a hard man. He gives his brother whatever he asks for. He inspires his teammates. He worries that Ryan Price’s book will fall on the floor and oh fuck Price is going to lose his place, I will help, oh fuck, I failed.
But his family tells him he’s no good, so it must be true. They have been the loudest voices in his life and that’s literally become his inner monologue. But then here comes Shane “I don’t know that side of you at all” Hollander and soon enough Ilya is monologuing into the phone on the street outside of his father’s funeral about how actually no. He’s given everything to his family. He makes everything perfect. And he couldn’t physically be there for his father all the time but he paid for it all. And yet they despise him. He knows why, or says he does. But I don’t think does, I think in that moment the seed is planted that Ilya is lovable. And he doesn’t have to be perfect, he doesn’t have to drain himself dry. The person who loves him is trying to fill his cup from thousands of miles away.
Ilya lives somewhat hedonistically because he has a nihilist edge. What does it fucking matter, Hollander? He has a hopelessness, but he fights it. These characters are triumphant, even if that triumph is bittersweet. If Shane is on a journey to self acceptance then Ilya’s is one of self-actualization. The more he loves, the more he loves himself.
"do you want that problem to go away?" actually kills me because you can see in shane's eyes if ilya needed to walk away shane would let him. even though it would break his heart he would do it because he loves ilya so much and wants ilya to be able to be safe and happy. but then ilya reassures him: don't ever leave me. i will never leave you.
Thinking about shelter dog ilya and the you dont like me scene. Think about for a sec, ilya is a good dog, when you visit the shelter he immediately catch your eyes with his shinning fur and when you take him home he's mostly good, doing all the tricks of the book and playing around but when you try to get closer, when you try to show your affection he expose teeths and bark. So you think what the hell is wrong with this dog? And you take him back to the shelter... Then shane comes around and he is patient, maybe he let him bite from the hand that feeds him and he will leave the light on in the room for you even though you are just fine at the dark and maybe you'll find the courage to sleep at the edge of the bed one day even though your previous owners told you thats wrong because even bad dogs needs a home.
shane and ilya as snoopy and woodstock
actor / conan gray
do you think ilya ever wondered if his father would’ve been kinder to him if he didn’t look so much like irina. if he was more obviously his father’s son and less of a reminder of the woman he only ever seemed to despise
what is love if not scaring ourselves?

Your trademark is a certain kind of warmth you're radiating, but also the calmness taht comes with looking at the distance watching the sun set. And I know this might sound very cliche but it's also the familiarity of thinking of your old family dog
Anon, I think you've got it wrong, I'm just a dog chasing it's bone....

luna please share your thoughts on a hollanov hunger games au 👀
ok ok since u twisted my arm hehe…..so in my mind they’re both already in their early thirties and won their respective games 10-15 years ago being mentors for their respective districts (ilya district 2 bc #HisCopFamily) and shane maybe district 4. they’ve been carrying on a secret affair pretty much since they met as mentors and meet up whenever they can (the games, victory tours, etc.)
they’ve also both been working lowkey on the behalf of the rebellion for a Long Time without ever really knowing that the other is involved. we’ve seen that the hunger games World is homophobic from sunrise over the reaping and we know that an inter-district relationship is unthinkable even amongst victors. so they really have to be as careful as possible while also keeping their tributes alive as long as possible.
and then. well. the quarter quell demands that the tributes are pulled from the existing pool of victors. ilya and shane are in different districts and neither are reaped but both volunteer on the off chance that the other was, so they basically just put themselves in an awful situation for the sake of dying for each other
