When it comes to more expensive dolls (bjds, collectors dolls, etc), have you ever owned a nude/re-bodied doll that you've later bought again for the fullset? If not, would you consider doing this if you liked the fullset?
I've been wanting a new body for my Volks Lucia (she's on an old sd13 and it's clunky and driving me crazy) and was looking for separate sdgr bodies, and ended up finding a fullset of my same Lucia for not much more than just the body alone. I really like her fullset, but it's very expensive and buying it would make my current Lucia a leftover that I'd have to sell to make space, so I'm not sure if I should do it or not. If I get the new Lucia I'll be certain that I have exactly what I want, but will have to sell another doll (ugh). On the other hand if I get for example, the Sprouting Dragon 1/3 doll body instead as a replacement, I'll have enough for a whole nother doll if I want, but the skin tone might not match and that will just be a full waste of money....
The new SD standard models are....interesting. I love Honoka, I think she looks kinda like if Yumepi and Mācha had a baby. Ena looks like Sapphire's little sister, so I can see her being popular. But then there's Maki......I've literally never been scared of dolls but something about her gives me huge uncanny valley vibes, I don't want to look at her for too long 💀
Ohhhh noooo I'm being so tempted by the outfits that come with the full set for the Sugary Girls blind box mjds. Like, I LOVE all the designs of the dolls, I prefer that they're mjds, and getting all those outfits and accessories as legit freebies is a great deal, but do I really want seven whole dolls from the same series??
For anyone who has bought full set/all in options for blind box dolls, do you regret it? Do you enjoy all the dolls?
So I know Athena got slaughtered in that poll, but I'm still debating between her and Cruel to be Kind because I'm finding it difficult to get a good idea of what the coffee skintone and makeup looks like irl. Like in some pics it looks as deep as cocoa and in others it looks barely 1 shade darker than tea, so it's hard to tell what it would look like in my room's lighting (or rather, lack there of) :T

Question for all Smart Doll owners!: how do you like them? Do they feel sturdy to you? Does the body (especially the new one that makes noises) feel stiff to pose? Was the buying experience easy and straightforward?
I've been curious about and following Smart Dolls since the prototypes and always liked Mirai, but the behavior of Danny Choo towards customers and some people's complaints about the fragility of the skeleton and lack of easily accessible replacement parts for repairs put me off buying them and led me to get DDs instead. I'm still curious about the dolls, but at this point all the reviews either seem to be from people who either really love Danny Choo and hate Volks or who really love Volks and hate Danny Choo, so I feel like they're too biased to really get any info out of.
As someone who has DDs, 50cm Obitsus, and a Smart Doll, i think the the Smart Doll body is fine. In comparison to the other two, it lacks posability imo. But that doesn't mean they're bad.
I have only one on the old frame, so i can't speak on the new one. She's an Interstellar Blue Prowess. And i think she's beautiful and i love her. She moves well and i wouldn't say she's any squeakier than my DDs or Obitsus. As someone with auditory sensitivies, it's never bothered me at all. In fact, i have resin dolls whose squeaking actually aggrivate me. One to the point that i am replacing the body.
She holds poses fine too and even with some manhandling, she's held up. Now, i don't know how rough you are with your dolls (no judgement) but through ordinary dressing, posing, and even an accidental fall off a tall dresser, she's been fine. Admittedly, i don't take many pics of her but if you'd like me to, i can. If you display your dolls when not playing, she stands like a champ once her telescopic stand is placed. And i do really like that little thing honestly. It's one of the most genius aspects since it's easy to hide in photos and means she'll be able to stand even on uneven surfaces.
My sister actually got me the doll but she said the process was quite easy and even the little question thing was simple.
As for DC himself.. well i don't have any personal beef with him but i do find his lack of manners on some things a bad look. I've heard some horror stories from others. But i like that he tries to be inclusive, whether it's because he truly believes in it or if it's just a cash grab, i can't say. But in the end he is doing it when not many others are. Regardless, i've personally decided i will likely not buy again.
All that being said, Smartdolls show up on mercari fairly often, and usually for reasonable prices. So that is an option if you'd like to get one without giving money directly to DC.
So, overall, i think she's pretty great and i wouldn't advise anyone against them. It just depends on what you want. If you just like the aesthetic, get one! If you don't plan to do any crazy photoshoots, get one! But, if you're looking for the most poseable, i'd actually go with Obitsu.
Thank you for your insight! I basically just put my dolls in basic poses and dress them up, so no rough playing or anything. I was just worried that their skinny wrists and arms might be weak points.
The telescopic stand is honestly the #1 selling point to me right now lol. I want to take my dolls outside more for photos, but I only have basic saddle stands for them which limit posing and look ugly in photos (and I'm not willing to shell out more money just for some slightly better stands). The telescope stand just looks so convienent!
Ok I'm leaning more towards getting a smart doll, but I can't decide between these two. So, which do you prefer: Cruel to be kind in coffee (left) or Athena in tea (right)?
Cruel to be kind in Coffee or Athena in Tea?
Cruel to be kind

@dolly-birdi , here’s my video of Smart Doll Pear movements!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS!! The audio is much clearer than in the youtube reviews I watched. The noise does seem quite loud in the hips, but it doesn't seem annoying or high pitched to me. I appreciate you doing this so much! 🩵

I really like my Pear-body Smart Doll. The clicking skeleton did take some getting used to, but the pose ability is good. I admit that I don’t ‘play’ roughly with her — like my BJDs, she’s usually just left standing or sitting in a nice pose for days or weeks on end.
She can’t kneel, though — that was a surprise to me. The hips and knees only bend to roughly 90 degrees, and don’t allow the doll to fold like a BJD. I’m not crazy about the difficulty repositioning her eyes. But it’s easy to change her hands out. And her arms take poses better than her legs.
Buying the doll did require some additional steps — if you’ve never purchased from them before, you have to respond to a list of questions before you are allowed to buy, mostly to make sure that you’ve actually read the website, understand the ways this isn’t like a traditional BJD, and have thought about this purchase, so you aren’t likely to return the doll. I know people complain about this, but I found it charming — like the company wanted to make sure you and the doll would bond. Also, the shipping has been astonishingly fast: I ordered my girl on a Friday and had her in my hands on Tuesday. That’s Tokyo to Texas, in four days. And subsequent orders for new clothes or hand parts have been just as quick to arrive.
I don’t have any experience with Volks, so I can’t compare it. I also haven’t needed any repairs to my Smart Doll, so I can’t speak to that, either.
Hope that helps!
Thank you for the review! That shipping time is really impressive! 😲
About the frame, may I ask what kind of clicking sound it is? Like, is it more of high pitched clicking or is it softer/lower? Did you find it annoying? This new evolve frame is what made me reconsider getting a Smart Doll, so I'm quite interested in it, especially since I've seen Smart Doll owners say it's more sturdy and feels less rickety than the old frame.

What do you mean "the new one that makes noise" 😳 is the new one LOUDER than the old??
Some thoughts under cut:
Omg thank you so much for all the comparison pictures! They're very up close and easy to see the differences!
As for the "sounds" of the new evolve frame, the sitd and many reviews make it sound like it makes more of a clicking noise when posing, but everyone seems to really like it and find it satisfying. I'm intrigued by this concept since I'm a very sensory oriented person, so if the body makes a nice noise and "feels" satisfying to move like the site suggests, that would be a plus for me. I'm a bit cautious though since my DDIII frame also makes noises, but it's the frame squeaking and it makes her sound rickety and fragile.
I really love the different skintones DC has made and the pear body looks great, but yeah his behavior really puts me off buying a Smart Doll. I understand not wanting to cater to unreasonable customers or criticism, but his mockery of those feels very juvenile.

Ugh have not been very active bc of the flu, but let me introduce you all to my daughter. She needs a name!
Today’s J-fashion wearer is Dal Angry, a doll made by Pullip! She wears gothic lolita with some punk elements!
A Roman doll with moveable joints and accessories was found in the sarcophagus of Crepereia Tryphaena, an unmarried 20-year-old woman. The sarcophagus is dated to the late 100s (2nd c. AD) making the ivory “Crepereia Doll” nearly two thousand years old.
Shout out to white tack it I can't believe I was sleeping on it for fixing doll problems for so long....I've used it for at least half of my dolls and I'm not even halfway through the pack of it this stuff's a lifesaver.
