Journal Prompt #6: Pretty Poet Series
Tie-dyed shirts and ripped jeans,
red lips and blushed cheeks.
Exhales and uprooted schemes,
blurry eyes and tear-filled sheets,
fake laughs and riddled memes.
Extra, extra, read all about it:
here’s the me you’ll never know.
Handwritten letters I’ll never send
spread across the floor,
waiting to mend
the relationships left unexplored.
Here’s the me you’ll never know:
scattered books and tinted glasses,
painted nails and styled clothes.
Dimpled cheeks and jagged edges,
lifeless limbs and binged shows,
sprained ankles and broken faith.
Here’s the me you’ll never know:
furrowed brows and balled fists,
high heels borrowed
just for the thrill of a click-clack symphony.
Stained dresses and clenched purses,
then, down on bruised knees,
I receive an epiphany—
that life is ever-changing,
and as broken as I may be,
there are wounds still here
only golden hour can heal.
