Spike’s 2026 Moc Challenge:
#SPINE06 !
Hello mocists everywhere! It is officially June, and as with last year and my #DH2005 challenge, I will once again be hosting a challenge based on year of G1 twenty years back. That makes this year’s moc challenge based on the groundbreaking year 2006!
This year, instead of requiring mocs to use only parts made before the year of the theme, I am going to free up parts usage to whatever builders like. Instead, the challenge will be only require ONE part.
Piraka Spines!
Obviously that makes builds a little easier to achieve without having to worry about “qualifying”, and I’m hoping more people will be interested in participating. If you DO only use parts made before 2007 feel free to brag about it! Last year a few people were dubious on the theme since they felt unsure of their ability to identify what year specific parts were made, and that’s fair not everyone has an internal catalog of Bionicle and Hero Factory sets and can’t easily discern that without research. I think a lot of us love Skakdi though, so this should be more accessible and fun!
However, your build doesn’t have to BE a Skakdi either! It only has to utilize a Skakdi spine, how you use that part is totally up to you! Is it a trophy worn by a Makuta? The face of some Bara-Magna desert animal? The tail of a Rahi? All up to you! One request I will make with any submissions people would like showcased is some sort of fun lore blurb, those were far and away some of my favorite things to read last year and I can’t wait to see them again this year.
Finally, this year I will be organizing all submissions into a “showcase” post at the beginning of next month, showing off as many submitted mocs as I can in a single post and talking about what I liked about each of them. I want to make it clear this is not a contest, it’s just for fun. This year the tag will be #SPINE06 MOCS.
As with last year, I'll be tapping some users specifically to participate, but if you're reading this don't feel left out, I can't wait to see what you'll make! As usual, I'll be tapping @binkybonkles, @kopakaskoolkompanion, and @origsmocs, who've been super helpful in arranging these moc bashes. I'll also be tapping @arzeron, @nihilpersona, and @biomechanicalfun, all of whom made some AMAZING Dark Hunter mocs last year. Also tapping @toaimahordika and @leftysupremacy, who interacted with the interest post for the June Challenge!
Once again, the tag for this years challenge is:

right here my dude, go wild
Putting out feelers now, I’m planning on making another challenge like my Dark Hunter 2005 challenge last year, and making these annual every June based on the year of G1 that was X decades back.
I won’t reveal the 2006 challenge just yet, but if you participated in 2005 or you liked the concept but wanna be tapped for this year, let me know down below so I can shout you out in the Challenge post itself!
A few Stars-ish Rahi from the Master Builder Set with alt coloration.
The other half of the Bionicle master builder set Rahi minus the Ussal crab.
And the variants.
These are really good can I have Kewa instructions!!
So for your Spider-Toa, would Bionicle Venom be hordika venom, or a krana?
Darkness
Dozer
When it comes to sheer brute force there aren't many dark hunters that can match the goliath known as Dozer. Yet his physical strength is not what landed him in the Shadowed One's good graces, and neither are his endurance nor his ability to simply brush off most attacks. No, the reason for that would be that Dozer's mind is as blunt and uncomplicated as his fighting style, making him an easily manipulated tool that enacts his master's will without doubt or question; an obedient soldier whose brutish brain couldn't possibly even conceive of plotting against him.
That alone is the reason why Dozer is one of the Shadowed One's most trusted soldiers
Banisher is a Dark Hunter from the southern islands. He doesn't seem to speak the Matoran language, so his history is largely unknown. There are several rumours among fellow Dark Hunters, suggesting he was once a warlord ousted in a revolt; a former guard or gladiator exiled for indiscriminate murder; or perhaps a dumb brute brought in by The Shadowed One as a lackey to do musclework. All that is known is that Banisher is strong, fast, and efficient, intolerant of wasting time toying with targets, even if his results tend to be somewhat messy.
Retribution
In a world that is in no short supply of part-time comedians and full-time elemental warriors, the Dark Hunter known as Retribution is unperturbed. He has no time for jokes, quips, witticisms, whimsy, or sarcasm. As well as a stoic stone wall in demeanor, he also stands steadfast against elemental attacks; he is able to absorb energy through his armor and channel it back through his Rhotuka launcher, allowing him to have the last laugh against his Toa foes. (Not that anyone has ever heard him so much as chuckle nor seen him smile.) Retribution is not all that popular at parties.
Dark Hunters 2005 (Pre-2006 Pieces ONLY) Build Challenge
Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about 2005 and what a secretly pivotal moment it was for Bionicle mocs. Something about how life used to be before Inika parts came into the picture was so… different. There was a time when it was hard not to make a custom torso without using a Bohrok body piece, if you can believe it, and 2005 was perhaps the last and most sophisticated era of that kind of building. You can especially see what I mean in the Dark Hunters building contest entries:
My friends @origsmocs @kopakaskoolkompanion and @binkybonkles and I have this fun little game where we make mocs with special parameters or conditions, and it’s a really fun and challenging way to flex your muscles as a builder. Recently, while talking about the Dark Hunters and this sort of unique time period of Bionicle Mocs, we decided to challenge ourselves by trying to build a sort of retroactive winner of the Dark Hunters build contest, with the stipulation of only using parts made and available before 2006! The rules are as follows:
No parts or recolors that would have only been available after December 2005
Pins, axles, or liftarms made after 2005 must be acknowledged and only used sparingly, if at all
Digital builds must also follow the same rules in regards to recolors especially.
Dark Hunter mocs should also be given a name and some flavor text to accompany the build, not unlike the original Dark Hunter Build Contest
Should be tagged with #DH2005 MOCS tag in order to be recognized.
This is an open invitation for anyone to participate in this moc challenge, as it’s just for fun, however I will be specifically challenging @galis-gock, @nihilpersona and @eclipsecaller to participate and create their own Dark Hunters with only 2005 pieces!
Looking forward to seeing everyone’s Dark Hunter builds! Remember, tag with #DH2005 MOCS!
