One day the AIs are going to look back on us the same way we look at fossil skeletons on the plains of Africa. An upright ape living in dust with crude language and tools, all set for extinction. Ex Machina (2015) dir. Alex Garland

Sticky Situation
Domhnall Gleeson x Actress Reader
Around two months ago, I had wrapped up a new project alongside some of the greats. Those names included the likes of Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, and Brendan Gleeson. Along with the greats came some of my close friends, Sophie Turner and Margot Robbie. The time for the press had come along and for once I was actually looking forward to it. I knew I would be paired with my girls and that meant that most of the interviews would just consist of us teasing and joking with one another.
This interview was the last of the day, and that often meant we were a bit more loopy and desperate to keep our energy up. The interviewer had started off with fairly basic questions:
“What was filming like?”
“Did you enjoy working with all your costars?”
“Did you learn anything from this experience?”
“Would you do it again?”
The energy was clearly falling and most of the answers were becoming quite sarcastic. Margot gives me a look that says she feels just as tired as me.
“Well, now I’d like to move to some more fun questions if that’s alright with you?” questions the interviewer. We all nod our heads.
“Of course! We’re always down for some fun questions,” exclaims Margot.
“Out of you three, who’s most likely to get hammered on a night out?” We all let out some short laughs while simultaneously pointing at Sophie.
“Literally the worst holder of booze to ever be born,” I laugh. Sophie rolls her eyes.
“Or maybe I just like to party,” she comments. We all laugh along with the interviewer. She asks a few more questions before asking one final one.
“Do we have any celebrity crushes ladies?” Margot and Sophie both look at me will knowing glances.
“Well, we’re both married, so no?” wonders Margot as she motions towards her and Sophie. Sophie nods along.
“But I did marry mine!” adds Sophie. We all laugh at that. The interviewer turns her attention to me.
“So, Y/N, any celebrity crushes?” I think it over for a few seconds, not really sure if I should answer the question, but suddenly one man pops into my head.
“You know who is actually quite adorable?” They look at me begging for more. “Domhnall Gleeson.” They all laugh clearly seeing the connection between our costar and the actor I just named.
“Really?” questions the interviewer. I shrug my shoulders before continuing,
“I mean have you seen About Time? Like hello, pure father material there!” We’re all laughing now.
“You know what I totally see it!” jokes Sophie. “Let’s make it happen.”
“Have you ever met him?” asks the interviewer. I shake my head.
“No, I haven’t,” I say. “I know his dad though!” Margot and Sophie just roll there.
“I mean that’s perfect, Y/N!” exclaims Sophie.
“I can see it all ready,” jokes Margot. “Hey Brendan, think you could give me your son’s number?”
“Cause I’d love to hook up!” continues Sophie.
“I just think he’s perfect father material!” pitches in the interviewer. At this point, my face is in my hands and I’m regretting even giving an answer. I lift my head up and say directly into the camera,
“OK, guys! That’s all we have time for!” Everyone starts laughing and the interviewer officially signs off.

About a week later, the press tour has moved from London to Dublin. Brendan and Liam insisted on giving us a true Irish experience. We all agreed and were heading to one of Brendan’s favorite pubs. It felt good to get to spend some personal time with the cast before all the press wrapped up and we moved on to our normal lives. I was getting ready for the night when I heard a knock on my hotel room door. I open it up and Sophie’s there waiting.
“Hey, babe!” she greets. I let her in and head back to finish getting ready. She comes in and sits down on the edge of the bed. “You excited for tonight?” I nod my head.
“Yeah, I feel like it’s been forever since we went pubbing.” She hums in agreeance. As I’m applying some mascara, I can feel her eyeing me.
“Everything OK, babe?” I question. I see her nod in the mirror.
“You know Domhnall lives in Dublin,” she mentions. I roll my eyes while letting out a little laugh.
“Are you still on that?” She laughs along with me.
“I’m just saying, he might be there. Could be your chance.”
——————————————————————————
We had been at the pub for about an hour now and we were all having a great time! We were each about two pints in and we were catching up on good times. There had been no sign of Domhnall, something I couldn’t seem to get off my mind since Sophie and I’s earlier interaction. I knew I was being ridiculous, after all, I had said the answer purely as a joke not really thinking anything of it. The drinks were running low, so I offered to go and get refills. The group agreed and I headed to the bar. After ordering the drinks, I stood there until they were finished. I picked up a few of the drinks and said I’d be back for the rest. As I turned to head back to our table, someone ran into me and knocked one of the drinks all over my shirt.
“I am so sorry!” exclaimed a man. I went to respond when suddenly Margot comes running over.
“Y/N, Brendan said his…” she cuts off when she sees the current predicament. She starts to laugh at me, which introduces annoyance to the situation. “Oh babe, you’re a mess.”
“I am so, so sorry! I wasn’t looking where I was going,” apologizes the man once more. Margot and I realize we still hadn’t addressed the man and we both look over at him. Immediately Margot starts to laugh even harder, and the poor man just looks so confused.
“Domhnall, there you are lad! I’ve been waiting for you,” states Brendan. He embraces Domnall in a hug before realizing the awkward energy in the pub. He looks over and sees the mess all over my clothes and then looks back at his son to see the embarrassed look on his face. Brendan shakes his head while letting out a small chuckle.
“Always were good at first impressions, son,” laughs Brendan. “Guess I don’t have to introduce you two anymore.” Brendan laughs slightly at his father’s teasing, but it’s clear he is still very embarrassed. Finally, as if I could finally think again, I realized I still hadn’t said anything and wanted to relieve some of Domnall’s embarrassment.
“It’s really no problem,” I say. “It wouldn’t be the first time I got myself into a sticky situation at a pub.” Everyone around me laughs, though there’s still clear tension around Domhnall as he once again glances over my clothes.
“I’d offer you my shirt, but…” he starts and I let out a little laugh. Brendan joins in,
“Yeah, cause all we need is you running around shirtless!” This additional joke from his father seems to ease the mood a little as well, and Margot suggests we head back to the table as she and Brendan grab the additional drinks at the bar. Domhnall and I still appear frozen in our spots. He snaps out of it first and goes over to the bar and comes back with a towel.
“Here,” he says, “Maybe it’ll make things a little less sticky?”
I believe in you. You know the door to my very soul; you’re the light in my deepest darkest hour; you’re my saviour when I fall and you may not think that I care for you. When you know down inside that I really do and it’s me you need to show how deep is your love. Is your love, how deep is your love? I really mean to learn ‘cause we’re living in a world of fools. Breaking us down when they all should let us be. We belong to you and me. Black Mirror (episode 2x01)
